I thought he had the best 90 minutes of anyone out there today, strength, awareness, delivery and defensive cover, great display.

He was great today and could probably have had a much bigger impact had we played with both Rooney and Hernandez on from the start. Some of the balls we drilled into the ball after good play from Valencia would have been like candy for Hernandez.

That was what I was saying at half time, those balls were crying out for someone to make that near post run which Hernandez is a master at.

He actually touched the ball twice today with his left foot, which must be a record. He controlled it once in the first half, and then the cross which led to Rooney's 2nd. That's almost as much as he touched it with his left the entirety of last season.

So ridiculously one footed, yet still so ridiculously effective.

That's an enormous exaggeration. He even scored a goal with his left last season.

He favours his right a lot but he uses his left when he has to.

I find it funny how defenders try to shoulder barge him off the ball and end up on their arses, while he barely budges. The injury really hasnt affected him at all either, its like it was just a minor inconvenience to his season. And no matter that he always goes on his right foot, it seems that if he wants to cross the ball he will and no one can stop the little shift to the right and cross that he does every time.

Come on Pogue bit of an overstatement. He does everything not to use his left... There's plenty of time he could use his left but decides to do the difficult thing instead.

Huge miss this season and I thought he was the only one who looked like doing anything for us in the first half.

Looking forward to seeing a game with him and Nani on the pitch together again.

Think he makes a huge difference to us in the away games. Very good possession play, very good at pressing the ball high up the pitch, very good at bringing the ball up the pitch quickly to turn from defence to attack and a great mentality.

The possession play makes such a difference. He hardly ever gives the ball away.

He's such a quality player. Offers such an all-round contribution.

I'm amazed at how well he's returned after such a lengthy injury.

Definitely, he plays the percentage ball so often and keeps our passage of play alive with great regularity, rather than looking for hollywood balls all the time and wasting possession.

Are you sure he scored a goal? I remember he took a shot with his left last season, but the one I am remembering didn't score and I don't recall any other.

And that last line is a massive under-statement. Like Mainoldo said, he does everything possible to not use his left. There are plenty of times the left has been the natural foot to use, and he'll change his entire run-up to the ball to use the outside of his right foot or turn his entire body to hit it with his right while off balance.

There are plenty of very one-footed players around. But I can't think of a single one to the extent of Valencia. But it works, so it's not a big deal.

He's just too strong for people to knock him off the ball most of the time, and if he can't get a cross or burst past his man in he'll play a nice smart pass inside, great for building attacks.

I think the left-footed goal might've been in pre-season? Possibly against the Ireland XI?

Plenty of players do that, including Berbatov. Fact is when he does use his left he usually does a decent job of it. He can do it, he just has more confidence in using his right foot inside or outside.

Some United fans make too big a deal about Valencia being one-footed. Yeah he is, so what. Not that big a deal. We'd like him to use his left foot a bit more ideally but he's still a class footballer, had a excellent game today, offers a lot to the team and its almost like a new signing getting him back from injury. I'm delighted with his play today, and I think he deserves praise.

Positive attitude towards our players please instead of needless continual whinging about stuff not that important.

He's definitely scored with his left for us - just can't remember which game. There is no denying he is insanely one footed but, the sheer quality of his play means it isn't a big issue. He'd be that much more of a player if he had a bit more of a left foot but, that's not going to happen. Time to move on from the discussion. Today he showed how irrelevant it is - especially since he also manged to get an assist with his left.

Absolutely amazing that he has come back this strongly - what a player, what character.

I hope that's not directed towards me considering my last sentence was 'But it works, so it's not a big deal.'.

I just find it amazing that such a ridiculously one-footed player is still able to be so effective at the truly top level.

Why are we debating it. Other players might do it too we all know that, it's just blatantly obvious when Valencia does it which is why it gets pointed out. It might be due to the fact his body shape makes his movement look more stiff or maybe he does it in the most awkward positions.

I don't no.

I don't think his weakness is his left foot so much, he just needs to shoot more when he gets into the right positions like he did quite a bit today, only for him to take on another player and get a cross in which didn't amount to much.

Maybe because he has a large amount of other qualities at an exceptional standard? Being 2 footed isn't the most important thing for a footballer. He's got the best pace of any of our players, he's really athletic, he's got a great cross, he's creative, he adds a lot to our team etc etc.

I'd say the fact that he can't go past players particularly easily is more of a weakness for him than him being 1 footed is anyway.

No one's whinging about it.... It's probably comments like yours that make it a big deal. It will always come up but to be fare it is said in guest because the guy normally gives a 7/10 performance and really is one of our top players.

I don't no.

Its blatently obvious when all players do it.

For some reason its a stigma that got attatched to Valencia needlessly last season and perhaps Nani's two footedness has made some posters go over the top about Valencia's shortcomings with his left foot. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a lot more confidence in your right foot, it wont stop him playing on the left wing either.

Agreed, I thought he could have had a couple of shots low into the bottom corner after doing excellently to make space like he always does. A spill is just as good as a meaningful cross.

He can go past players brilliantly. Outstandingly. He's absolutely amazing at making space for a shot or cross, thats why he's able to get the ball into the box so much. Its nowhere near a weakness for him, in fact few wingers are better at making such a space to get a ball into the box. We're talking Ronaldo, Messi, Robben... Other than that? He's right there. Its like Sir Alex said, he had his fullback on toast. 7 or 8 times out of 10 he does, he has them on toast.

If he was as good a crosser as you and some others make out, he'd be unstoppable.

Its a shame he's forgotten where Rooneys head is.

Rooney's movement and anticipation wasnt up to scratch in the first half. It'll take some time for those two to hit it off again, but todays a good start.

I think he's brilliant. Nani and Valenica on the flanks - nice.

Definitely, he plays the percentage ball so often and keeps our passage of play alive with great regularity, rather than looking for hollywood balls all the time and wasting possession.

This is what makes him and Nani a good combination. Nani is capable of the sublime but is also more likely to concede possession, whilst Valencia provides a reliable outlet to relieve pressure when we're up against it. You can almost guarantee that even if he doesn't find a teammate he will win a throw-in or a corner.

I don't like to compare Nani and Valencia. They're very different wingers but both very effective in their own ways.

What I would say is, with the decline of Malouda this year, they're the 2 best wingers in the PL.

It's a 'stigma' that got attached to Valencia because he is far more one-footed than even other noted one-footed players. Perhaps more than any other player I've seen at the top level.

Some people do use it in a negative way. But most of us find it hilarious that someone who rarely touches the ball with one foot is still so brilliant and effective at what he does.

Almost every player out there prefers one foot over the other. The vast majority of them are significantly better with their preferred foot. A fairly large amount prefer it to such an extent that they can be referred to as being one-footed. Valencia takes that to the extreme.

I don't know why people feel they have to 'defend' him from those claims. If someone is using it as a stick to beat him or going overboard about him being limited then fair enough, but that's rare.

If we wasn't so one footed he wouldn't be such an out and out winger. He basically has to go and cross the ball most of the time, which is a good thing because his crosses are absolutely fantastic and he usually gets the yard on his man to get them in.

So in that regard, it's kind of a good thing :)

His cross to Rooney with his left for our equaliser was fantastic. Linked up well with Fabio as well. Just keeps running and tracks back well. In the first half, he would have had a few assists imo if Chico started cos he put them into dangerous areas that is attacked.

So direct but what we need with our attackers. Love it.

Tony V, once again lovely to see him back.

With players in England and Europe suffering from fatigue as we head towards the end of the season, his injury enforced freshness might prove crucial.

No he isnt, unless you've never seen Berbatov play.

I forgot how good he is, love him.

Couldn't give two shits if he uses his left foot or not, he's effective and that's all that matters.

If we would have had Valencia throughout the majority of the season we'd have all but sealed the title up by now, perhaps even a little earlier IMVHO.
