And mentioning Nani who has also had one good season in that same time period was your way of showing that? Now that's stupid and moronic

I still dont get it. How did Nani not have a good 11/12 season? In terms on contribution he is almost on par with the season before that.

He was pretty poor today tbh, bar a few good touches. Like I said in the match thread, hopefully he can have a break, get a full preseason under his belt, then hit the ground running and rediscover his form what we know he is capable of.

So you sell a player as soon as they have a shit season then?

Guess Nani, Evans, Anderson, Evra and god knows who else should of been moved on years ago when they also had poor seasons then

True.. I wonder if Barcelona fans wish they had held onto Ronaldinho after his shit season. Just a thought.

Basically.. he has been a good player but he's never been world class to make me think he's irreplaceable.

No-one's happy with how Valencia has played this year. That shouldn't have to be mentioned every time you post in this thread...but then that's pretty much all everyone does say. Again and again. It's weird. Valencia isn't playing well and Sir Alex is trying to play him through his slump because the other wingers aren't playing well and Valencia still does the basics better than Nani or Young. Nothing's changed with that all year so why does the exact same discussion take place over and over again? Is Valencia the reason we lost today? Or is he just an easy target to vent your frustrations? It's pretty much always the latter, IMO, and I personally feel obliged to defend United players from undeserved abuse. Criticism's unavoidable but is it so hard to criticise aspects of a player's game while still being supportive of them?

Probably is really. If he was anywhere near as good as what he used to be, we would have scored a goal or two for sure.

I wouldn't be so critical of him if he was on the bench mainly, but how on earth does he keep starting game after game, when there are people like Nani, Kagawa, Welbeck or Rooney all getting dropped or on the bench. Yet Valencia, who has had one of the worst seasons I've ever seen from a player (Torres-esque), keeps getting starts. you say he does the basics right but shouldn't the basics for a winger be to be creative and make chances for your strikers? He's a number 7 for Manchester United, not some shite team in the second division, he should be doing much more then offering protection to the defence better then the other wingers to get starts. Every time Nani plays, he works hard and looks pretty threatening, and makes chances at least. Valencia doesn't even offer much defensively anymore, certainly not enough to justify him starting.

It just makes no sense why Sir Alex is trying to play him out of his slump that has gone on all season, yet he isn't trying that with Nani, even though Nani has shown that he can be a world class winger when he feels his spot in the first team is safe.

And he no longer has an agent because he wants to retire here. I'm willing to give the lad another season but he's been absolutely dreadful. Against Villa, we saw shades of the old Valencia. Today, there's just no explanation.

I still remember when fans used to argue that Valencia picked out a cross better than Nani. Does that still seem to be the case? To me, it's clear whichever direction the team is moving in, it doesnt favor Valencia. Just so low quality at the moment.

He's amazingly bad right now. We should keep him at the club but he definitely shouldn't be one of our two first choice wide players. I'm struggling to remember a more disappointing season by a united player.

There was a point in the second half where he slammed a cross into his own left foot and it went out for a goal-kick... and I just felt sorry for the bloke.

Is it completely wrong of me to think that even if he can recover form his style of play doesn't mesh well with our current team?

If we re going to be a more fluid team, it would be a bit difficult to play with classic wingers.

Anyway, I don't see that as a big problem. If he can find the form of his first three season here (especially that of last one) he would do good regardless of the system.

OT was furious with him today

Seems to have reached that point, yes. Can't be good for the poor sod. I can see the wisdom in playing him against certain teams regardless of his form, since he does offer something extra defensively - but the league is wrapped up now. Give him a break - let this season be over for his sake. Hopefully he can get some form back over the summer.

I really do feel for the guy, because he's a decent bloke and he's been a great player for us previous seasons. To see a player whose confidence looks totally shot is sad. I just hope it isn't too far gone for him to recover fully.

This, he's one of those players you really want to to do well but as harsh as this sounds, he's practically stolen a league medal this season. I'd put it up with there with Owen's PL medal in 2011.

Our situation on the wings has really taken a nosedive in the last year. Young, our 3rd winger who everyone complained about last season got something like 9 goal 13 assists... This season, well...

What an absolute mess, and Nani's gonna be sold for peanuts as well, it angers me every time I think about it :wenger:

 Watching the caf meltdown when we lose normally leaves me shaking my head, but today has been hilarious.

He's bulked up too much and has lost a yard of sharpness and pace. He cannot kick a ball with his left foot, can't cross and lacks a football brain. Other than that he's ok.

I'd give him another season, but I hope to Jesus he isn't our first choice winger on the right next season. If he was sold I wouldn't be sad, but I'd prefer to give him another season.

Rubbish. The poorest prolonged level I can recall from a number 7 in my life time, and he's also the least talented within that period too. Zaha must love him though.

Next time you see Valencia on the ball, picture the ball being on fire and burning his foot with every touch. It syncs up perfectly.

Agree 100%. Plus he has clearly lost the confidence to dribble. Worst number 7 ever.

I feel for him because SAF really shouldn't be playing him with how much of a shell of his former self he's become, really lacking confidence, just completely unsure of what to do when he has the ball. Needs a long holiday and a good pre-season, you just wouldn't associate this with Valencia though, the bloke used to be a ruddy machine. It's all gone downhill since I saw him smile after his goal against Blackburn.

A winger that can't cross / pass / dribble. Sure he's a physical player- but surely we can do better than that. Say what you will, but I cringe whenever I see him start. He's done nothing over the course of this season to deserve place in the first 11.

To be fair, a lot of posters last season even questioned how long someone, who relies on his pace and the fact he's one dimensional, would last at top form. That comes with age so why he or someone, hasn't developed his game is beyond me

I've defended him so much this season as the last two, he seemed to be on a one man mission to get us to the league but he's been ultra poor this season!

Maybe we should try him on the left so he can cut in and fire raspers at the opposition keeper with his good foot.

Watch him the next time he plays...Control is always on the right foot with the odd occasional pass with the outside of his left...It would be a disaster

:lol::lol:

Can you imagine, especially with the level of stick that Young gets here..
