This is seriously good news I think. If he starts playing again and looks like he can get back to something approaching his former level, imagine how Rooney will feel the first time Valencia swings in one of those crosses he provided so many of last season. Could really be a big lift to the club.

I really hope he bucks a bit of a trend and comes back from this able to kick on - he looked like he was just beginning to scrape his potential and had lots more to give and I've rarely seen a player relish being a United player as much. Desperately unlucky to get injured like that.

They say a healed broken bone is stronger than before the break, truth or myth?

Some Google searching suggests it's true, but only with proper rehabilitation (and it varies in subjects). Something to do with extra bone callous forming over the mended area. Or something.

Back in First Team training today :D

The nagging worry I have is that he used brute strength and bravery to kind of plough through some challenges - I worry whether he'll be able to do that in the future or whether he'll have psychological issues that hinder that. I think that was certainly an issue for Eduardo, or looked it at least - looked like he was afraid to get into the mix for fear it happened again.

Yeah, the psychology is always the most complicated issue coming back from an injury like this. Alan Smith was a shadow of his former self, despite no apparent physical shortcomings.

Valencia just seems the type to cope though. Dunno why, exactly, but he he's always given me the impression of having an absolutely iron will.

His mental ability to comeback from such a bad injury had worried me a bit, especially because (if I remember correctly) it wasn't a bad challenge that got him injured so he could just become a very cautious player and therefore maybe stopped him running down the wing often and just pass it quickly instead.

But I agree with you that I think he can cope with it well and will just get back to his old self soon enough.

You have to say, so far, this has been an absolutely textbook recovery. Done the hard work, ahead of schedule, no mental issues, worked with the reserves, now working with the first team. When you consider Hargreaves' horrendous record, you'd have to favour on the side of Valencia regaining his former abilities and mental state.

It's because he doesn't smile.

The psychological trauma of a leg break is nothing when you have no emotions.

So hang on, I dont mean to get on Hargreaves' case here, but how the feck did Valencia manage to break his leg and return to training before him? Not even considering the fact he's been injured for 2 years before that. Its absolutely mental.

What does that have to do with someone who has knees wrecked by chronic tendonitis?

We know those are two so different cases... It's just unfair to compare, considering the injury and surgery Hargreaves spent two years trying to recover from are supposed to end anyone's career.

But you went ahead anyway...

As BaldwinLegend said, Hargreaves is suffering with chronic tendonitis, whereas Valencia had a bad leg break.

It's apples and oranges.

Bench against liverpool?
considering we are short of options on the wings, it wouldnt surprise me
hope he has a good week in training

i came.

btw he looks fitter than Rooney

Nice observation, not something I've ever noticed before, always assumed Rooney was the fittest guy on the team by a mile....oh wai wut.

The last I heard, Hargreaves had a hamstring injury.

He wouldn't have torn his ham-string if his knees were too wrecked to play football. If his hammie's healed and his knees have flared up again then that's the end of his United career IMO.

I know, was being a tad sarcastic...

A clean leg break was always going to have a swifter recovery than all of what Hargo has had to go through.

Hopefully he won't have any psychological issues.

He's a fecking machine anyway, a real robot devoid of human emotion, thought, and identity.

He plays, he scores, he's injured, he rests, he plays, he assists, he scores.

No emotion. No distractions. No celebration. No smiles. Just Valencia needed.
