Arsenal vs. Manchester United

A few plans for this game.

I hope we don't do a guard of honour - it's all become a bit cliche. I'd rather we did it at the end than at the beginning, if anything. I find it's a bit indicative of society as a whole - it's all about the praise and adulation now, as opposed to the actual achievement.

Needless to say, you've not got much to play for now so I hope we do to you what Spurs did to City, and show we want it more.

Phil Dowd officiating means that United might actually concede their first penalty this season. He loves them.

 Achievement like actually winning the league?

Play Nani and Chicharito until the end of the season. I'd love to see Chicharito get to the 20 goal mark for the season, the lad is a class act.

Of course RvP should play in this seeing as it's at the Emirates :D

As much as I'd prefer Arsenal to remain in the CL spots over Chelsea...the points record has to be in our sights. Go there and crush dreams.

Ok this is one of 3 games I want you to win this season, and the other 2 you drew and lost. , for feck sake stop fecking with my head and dont lose!

So true, what a weird thing to tie a guard of fecking honour too.

I'm just saying people are bizarrely obsessed with it.

It's the same types who get really pissed off that Alan Shearer didn't quite give De Gea enough credit for a save on MOTD. Why didn't they praise our prized goalkeeper? What fiends!

Get a life. Either it happens or it doesn't. If our players choose to drop a bottle of champagne into the United dressing room at the end, then that works just as well for me.

Actually it looks like you're the one obsessed with it, Al.

We're waiting for it out of sheer amusement and joy. It's a tradition, just like handshakes etc. Why change it? It's not as if it's going to drive you nuts is it?:D

Lindergaard
Rafael Jones Evans Evra
Carrick Scholes
Nani Kagawa Welbeck
Rooney

Not even sure if Scholes is available for selection, need to see him a couple times before its all over though!

I am becoming more obsessed with it actually - I'm intrigued by the whole furore that surrounds it.

I'm not entirely sure it's tradition either - it seems a recent thing, but I'm sure some older person can tell me about when it happened in the 1947/8 season.

It's nothing special, really. Was fun to see Chelsea lads bowing to the likes of Eagles, Dong etc. back in 2007, though.

There's only a furore because its Van Persie's first game at the Emirates. Non-issue otherwise.

All this talk of Arsenal having "class" and being "classy". They better do the right thing and give us a bloody Guard of Honour.

Word is, Arsenal fans will arrive late to avoid seeing it happen or boycott the match all together.

But that's not a sign of disrespect to us, its a form of protest against the lads who sold Van Persie to us, namely Gazidis and Kroenke I think. Can't really blame them tbh.

think if we don't play RVP it would be admitting being afraid of 'reactions'. Thing is most of us want him to play. Fine if he does not celebrate. But we need to play our form player against a good team.

Fergie wants the 4 more wins I'm sure.

Now that the leagues over, I can't see RVP playing as well as he would've had we needed the points. The occasion might get to him a bit and there's plenty of hungry players waiting to come in so it wouldn't be a bad idea to not start him IMO.

Anyone else find it a bit weird that the referee and linesman also joined the guard of honour at Chelsea?

I personally think Arsenal can use the guard of honour as a way to get the players and fans charged up.

I'm not watching the poorest league champions since 1962 being wanked off - feck that for a game of soldiers.

Poorest league champions since 1962 and yet stil...21 points ahead of your lot...:smirk:

Make the most of it on Sunday Pete, its the only time you'll be seeing any champions around the Emirates for a while.

i did kind of want us to win the trophy there and have the trophy presentation there...it has been awfully long since those poor folks have seen a trophy

The questiion is, why are you objecting to a civilised good friendly gesture though? Afterall, they are all peers who should be appreciating one another achievment and congratualate us in a pulic display. It's called courtesy

Why does it have to be a public display? Do you want us to lay on some fireworks? Maybe we could take it further, and get Wilshere to recite If by Rudyard Kipling before kick off?

Courtesy is congratulating the victors. Whether that's done in the dressing room or through a North Korean-esque light show, who cares?

I reckon there'll be some really awkward semi-applause from our players as the sides come out, and that's it.

I mean, it really is essentially like making the apostles applaud Judas on a job well done.

That said, we all know how that story panned out. We will rise again.

Prediction:

DDG

Rafael - Smalling - Jones - Buttner

Nani - Rooney - Cleverley - Kagawa

Van Persie - Hernandez

The dreamers of RAWK would be proud of this one

To be fair, he hasn't got thirty pieces of silverware yet, just the one. Give it a couple of seasons at least.

And yeah, this is RAWK-lit. Although the metaphor needs to be more mixed. Add 'like a phoenix from the flames' on the end.

I have this horrible image of them bowing to Eagles' Dong now :(
