So basically we haven't away to Arsenal twice in a row in the last 9 years, and who knows how much further back that goes? Didn't expect much from this game, adding on to the fact we'll rotate a lot and that we have nothing to play for and I wouldn't be surprised if we lose.

Our last set of consecutive away league victories over Arsenal (from what I could tell) was in 1985, when we actually won on 3 straight trips.

24.08.1985 Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United
23.02.1985 Arsenal 0-1 Manchester United
06.09.1983 Arsenal 2-3 Manchester United

Before that you have to go all the way back to 1958 for consecutive away league wins over the Arse.

01.02.1958 Arsenal 4-5 Manchester United
29.09.1956 Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

And those are the only two times, going all the way back to 1894.

de Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Jones Cleverley
Rooney
Nani Hernandez Welbeck
--
Lindegaard; Smalling; Anderson, Powell, Valencia, Kagawa; van Persie

Giggs, Scholes, Buttner, Young (if fit) etc could make the bench (or start in Buttners case). Lindegaard might also be given a shot in goal... I'd rather de Gea and Evra against Arsenal and Chelsea, with Lindegaard and Buttner against Swansea and West Brom.

I don't think Fergie really gives a feck about the points record and to be honest, right now, neither do I.

Looks promising for this weekends match...
Good thing most of us are not all too bothered by it, I'd like arsenal to get top 4 along with spurs so it could soften the tiny blow of losing or getting a draw.

I'd like to see:

DDG
Rafael - Smalling - Vidic - Evra
Jones - Cleverley
Nani - Kagawa - Welbeck
Chicharito

Bench: Lindegaard, RvP, Rooney, Rio, Buttner, Powell, Januzaj

I think Sir Alex said Carrick and Evans played through an injury on the Villa game so Jones would go to center mid.

That line up seems likely after SAF hinted at giving some of the squad players a game. Im desperate to see RvP take part in the guard of honor though!

I think it'll be this with the exception of Smalling at RB instead of Rafa and Rio at CB. RVP won't start, Rooney might... but I won't be suprised if he doesn't.

van Persie will start, he's Ferguson's pet and you can be sure he'll want to confirm his position as Premier League top scorer.

^ This. Can see van Persie being rested for Swansea perhaps but there's no way he won't be in the side for that guard of honour (unless injured). He will be desperate to play, surely. Can maybe see Hernandez alongside him rather than Rooney, though.

What would we be resting RVP for exactly? Let him go and have every chance of grabbing the top goalscorer award.

Who can beat him to top scorer now anyway?

We won't beat the points record, just put the kids out - let them have the guard of honour.

which players need games for medals with respect to these last four games...wondering if Fergie might have an eye on that...

EDIT: ok, saw on another thread fringe players need 5 appearances now...any of them needing games to make up the five appearances?

It's Arsenal away, and they're going hard for top 4.

We're not going to piss about with the line up in this one.

Any mucking about can be done inthe Swansea and West Brom games.

Büttner has 3 starts and Powell 2 subs I think

If you add Persie to the players SAF mentioned as deserving a game there's really almost no room left. Carrick and Evans were mentioned as carrying injuries, so I can't see them playing, and he mentioned wanting to play Jones in midfield. That means 3 out of Vidic, Rio, Smalling and Rafael will play, and probably Buttner to rest Evra.

He mentioned Cleverley, so with Jones there's the midfield. Chicharito was also mentioned, seems very likely to partner Persie. With Nani the other one mentioned and Young injured it seems to be between Valencia and Welbeck to take the other wing spot.

U21's played yesterday, so not happening.

Powell might get a run in all of the last 4 games, if he is fit.

Carrick and Evans got knocks against Villa. SAF said Vidic and Rio should come back in and Jones in CM, then he singled out Cleverley, Nani, Welbeck and Chicharito as needing games so that they feel their contribution to the season has been big. It won't feel bigger if we lose the next few games they play in so hopefully it's still a relatively strong line up overall.

I would like to see Jones again as a center back, he has been very good at last few games there.

Also, it would be interesting to see a combo of Ando-Cleverley in midfield. Where's the last time they have started together (without Carrick and Fletcher protecting them)? I think that it is 8-2 game at home against Gunners but I could be wrong.

Can't wait for tomorrow - one of my favourite away's Arsenal.

Won't be easy for us, but I'm relatively confident. Arsenal will be desperate for a win after Spurs dropped points this afternoon, and a win against us would be a huge confidence boost for them. As I say, I think we have enough pace in the side to hurt them on the counter, but it won't be easy for us. Looking forward to it - hoping to get a few 'old classics' out there tomorrow.

How the teams will line up tomorrow...

Just looking on arsenal mania and this post just cracked me up.

I still remember Fergie played 7 defenders and still won 2 fukciing nil against us. And that "I 8 2 be an Arsenal fan" too. Cutnns.

 hopelessness.

I remember that game. I think we had the twins on the wings and Gibson in the middle with someone else, might have been Fletcher. We've taken the piss against them in recent years, with the odd exception.

 Took me a while to catch on but well done.

Not my work, found it on another website. It is funny though.

I'm actually glad that Giroud is suspended today. For all his lack of finesse and actual ability, he has found the knack of putting the ball in the back of the net.

Without him their goal threat is significantly reduced.

I don't think Giroud's really found the knack of scoring but he brings out the best in everyone else, especially Poldi and Theo.

My predicted line up for today because I reckon Wenger's going to go full on WUM:

Szczesny

Sagna
BFG
Kosc
Monreal

Ramsey
Arteta
Wilshere

Cazorla
Gervais through the middle.
Walcott

Cazorla will be played wide to allow for Wilshere and that won't help us at all. If we show some bravery, Wilshere will be on the bench and Cazorla will play in his best position.

It was O'Shea in the middle with Gibson.

Can someone explain that tactic board btw?

I hope for a good performance and if possible a decent result, but I have to admit that for me the scoreline is of lesser importance in this one.

I'll be chuffed with the guard of honour thing, and hope our fans would make the most of the occasion. We have a score to settle with those Arse cnuts...

His reaction cracks me up every time. What a game.

I met John O Shea some time after that chip and said he was a legend for pulling it off. He pissed himself laughing.
