Arsenal vs. Manchester United

Yeah the recent record against Arsenal is incredible. Since 2008 I think it's: W12 D2 L2. Hopefully it's one instance where Moyes can continue Fergie's good work as even in this terrible season, defeat to a Flamini-less Arsenal would still come as another surprising blow. It's just a shame the Fulham result was so deflating.

I just want us to compete properly in this game. Once the trio of Mata, Roo and RVP get firing I think we'll be ok.

probable?

That's what we should be playing but for reasons I don't understand Moyes continues to play Rooney higher up the pitch alongside RVP, except when RVP got injured where he decided to play Rooney deeper in a three, at Villa for example, where we played very well.

We didn't play 4-4-2 in the last two games. Mata DIDN'T play as a winger vs Fulham. The formation isn't the problem.

Moyes has been good at breaking records this season though sadly

Yeah, why have pundits especially been saying this? his average position was basically a few yards behind "the hole". Seems like just an easy stick to beat Moyes with.

Aye. Definitely agree with this.

Pundits are knobends - they insist teams are playing 442 when it's clear they aren't (see City as a prime example)
Agree again. Because City play with two strikers it automatically means they're playing 4-4-2 according to some.

Well Moyes is perfectly aware how to shut up, counter and win, it's his speciality really and probably why we've looked decent in the CL.
It's the attacking of the defensive sides Moyes comes unstuck with or rather just attacking in general.
0-1 or 5-0 seems as likely as anything.

Yeah to be fair Ozil was muck yesterday and Mata has only had a few games to get used to his teammates. I think the game highlighted the concerns Jose had with him in the current set up of our team defensively, but I still feel he will have a better run with United, right now the whole team seems to be a bit chaotic and disorganized so theres no consistency for Mata to get into either.

We've always been a bit more open than Chelsea anyway. Not many players get free reign on the pitch at that club, whereas we invariably give it to one player in the squad (Ronaldo, Cantona, Berbatov, Veron). One person to just send out there to do what they do best.

De Gea

Rafael
Smalling
Evans
Evra

Januzaj
Fletcher
Jones
Cleverley
Rooney

RVP

No frills or furbelows here, 4-5-1 and make life uncomfortable.

If Jones isn't ready for this then i'd expect Rooney to be seconded to CM [Kagawa wouldn't be a disastrous alternative but what are that occurring are slim to none unfortunately].

Don't rate that record signing to feature in a pretty big game Nick?

Moyes will get this right....
The closer we get to the game, the more I'm feeling like we might actually nick it. Everyone's obviously pessimistic with us in our current stage, but if the players can't motivate themselves for a game against Arsenal then what can they get pumped up for? Been watching highlights of our previous games against them, amazing what a bit of confidence can do for everyone and your play. The 8-2 game, if we put out that lineup today everyone would cry. Smalling right back, Evans-Jones in the middle, Welbeck up top, Cleverley and anderson in midfield, Young and nani on the wings  Amazing how we won it by that much. I hope we really go for it because they aren't exactly brimming with confidence either!

If we are going to adopt a more defensive blood and thunder approach to proceedings i'm just not sure that there is room. He would make for a dangerous member of the cavalry though, for assuming that the team remains in contention the ame should begin to open up a little.

You guys are kidding yourselves. Arsenal to win by two clear goals. While they've lost a big game and have struggled against us in the past, we aren't exactly playing well ourselves. This will be like the Chelsea game.

I actually expect Moyes to go for it and play Mata, Rooney and Januzaj behind Van Persie.

I hope so anyway.

No Mata? He has a great record versus Arsenal.

I expect a jizz fest for le arse.

But if I'm wrong, which I often am, and Moyes digs out glorious triumph, Wenger might be the one to be under the hot lights come May. If you're a goober (autocorrect, but goober seems to fit better than gooner) you might ask whether yet another trophyless season can be tolerated.

Arsenal style hasn't caused us trouble for a long time now. I expect us to be able to deal with it. Anyway, I expect the match to be decided by just the odd goal.

The only way Wenger would be more under the hot lights would be if Moyes got the sack before May.

Perhaps, but if Moyes lands seventh place and Wenger loses twice to Moyes and can do no better than fourth and goes trophyless, things could be as bad for Wenger with the restless natives as for Moyes.

Given where expectations are right now, a hard fall by Wenger could be pretty painful.
