This is my opinion, not one that should be thrown in with a boatload of others a number of years ago. I didn't mind Rooney in that position and I felt the team worked very well with him in there.

Ideally, he'd play similarly to the way David Villa played at Barcelona, with high work rate, clever, inside movement behind the defence, allowing Mata, or Kagawa, to utilise their best traits from the centre of midfield. They are attacking midfielders for a reason. Rooney in this current role, one which Moyes exaggerates by allowing him to stand on Van Persie's toes, continues to hinder our team shape and style of play.
