Arsenals chances of a top 4 finish this season

You're making it sound really simple this manager job.Wilshere has been out for a long time and Wenger is just waiting for the right moment to unleash him, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Some bench players you need them to play if your team is in trouble and some you just have to wait for the right circumstance to give them playing time, specially when they're young and have had serious injury problems.
You just don't throw Wilshere out there and put him under immediate pressure, you ease him back into the game.Soaking up the atmosphere is a good beginning, it will get Wilshere to another level from a psychological point of view.

You make a fair point. I appreciate you give him sub appearances at first, but I just want him to be a sub regardless of what's happening in the game. But as I say, it's just me being pedantic about it. I get the counter argument.

Over the years, a lot of Arsenal fans have claimed it's not true that there's a level of superiority and arrogance in the team - hopefully that will have put that myth to bed now.

That is a disgusting display - nothing more to it than that. Norwich were dire too, but they won a game which no-one deserved anything from. They had one shot of note, and our goalkeeper decided to punch it out to the middle of the goal and then not even get up to try and save the rebound.

We turned up today and thought we were going to win 5-0. Simple as that. I have never seen anything quite so horrendously arrogant. You can list the unprofessional elements to this performance.

- Literally no movement up front in any remote way. No-one made any runs or anything. Static.

- Chamberlain seemingly doing a muscle ten seconds after coming on. Had he warmed up properly?

- Wilshere's inclusion on the bench when we clearly had no intention of using him unless we were cruising. It was like we thought it'd be so easy we could use this game as a chance to give him some minutes.

Questions have to be asked of Wenger too - Mannone is not good enough, and will never be, yet we decided to make him our back up to a 21 year old injury-prone first choice. Let's try and get 4th and then do something in the domestic cups - that now has to be the aim.

Diaby is still injured, isn't he?
It's unreal how much he influences Arsenal's play. I was laughing at all the praise for Arteta the other day, good player but he's nothing more than that.

Also I said earlier that Podolski is average and I'm sticking by that.

He gives us a stability and a presence that can drag the ball from the edge of our penalty box to the edge of the opposition's.

Podolski has had a niggle recently, but he's still alright for us. Quiet today but works so hard to help his full back. If everyone had put in the display that he and Jenkinson put in today, we wouldn't have lost.

Arteta is useful, but even he looked off his game today.

Diaby's a genuine box to box midfielder. I look at the Anfield performance and was blown away by his performance. If fit, he has to be in there Arsenal's starting XI.

He is very, very similar to Yaya Toure.

This performance was similar to the one against Chelsea, just no movement and just such a lazy performance. Almost like they thought just showing up would win them the match, really poor stuff.

Yeah but how many games has he actually played like that this season? He is very hit and miss and one good game doesn't mean he should get all the plaudits over someone like say Arteta whose performances you dismiss but I think have been brilliant.

I'm not dismissing Artetas performances at all, Jazz. But then I don't think he has been excellent.

Fair enough but I think he has. He has taken over the role Song should have and has been excellent at it, we miss RvP's goals but nobody has said anything about Song and that is down to him imo. A lot more disciplined than him and I think in general his distribution from deep has been excellent.

Diaby usually has one standout game and then a run of 3 average ones followed by 2 months on the sidelines.

Arteta, to my surprise has been brilliant since joining.

Fair enough then, you obviously watch Arsenal more than I do, so I bow down to your opinion over this.

Of course they'll make the top 4.

Whether they will end up 3rd or 4th is the main question.
I think finishing third would be a massive achievement for Arsenal this season. You have to consider Chelsea have spent extensively, Manchester City are more or less expected to retain the league and United have last season's top goalscorer, who's is capable of bettering his tally.

actually thought Gervinho made some excellent runs and was ignored by the insistance to come central or Santos just being poor. At one point you could hear him yell at Santos for ignoring him.

It was going to be a tough game, with Norwich having most of the international break off (only two away to internationals) to rest and prepare.

True and they did look a lot more energetic than us out there but still we can't use that as an excuse and when below par you have to find something to win these kind of games.

Though I do believe we wouldn't of lost had it not been for that mistake by our keeper, I haven't had confidence in him since the first time I saw him this season and still don't now, he is an accident waiting to happen and in the past he has got away with it but not this time

Arsenal have the last 4 seasons been consistant around 70-75 points. That's probably where they will end up this season as well - and there are at least 3 times who will do better than that. But 4 ? I doubt it

Really? Was it a mistake?

I saw it and thought it was a tough save low and he just didn't have time to get back into a good position to block Holt coming in. It certainly wasn't a match changing howler.

They are not better than City or us and not worse than anyone else. I still think they'll finish 3rd ahead of Chelsea. They should really spend some money in Jan and sign a decent striker.

:nono:

I know Chelsea have gotten out to quick starts before and faded, but this team is legit and no way do Arsenal finish ahead of them.

Arsenal nailed on for 4th.

He has a problem whenever someone shoots instead of pushing shots away to the side he pushes them straight back out. In the past we have been let off as nobody has been there or a defender deals with it but this time he got punished for it. On the aerial ball he is terrible, flaps all the time and against West Ham we nearly ended up going 2-1 down as he let Caroll get a free header ahead of him. I know he is third choice but incredibly frustrating as he always looks like he has mistakes in him

Chelsea are flying at the moment and their confidence is sky high, already 10 points ahead and considering they have beaten us at our place it will be tough to make up that deficit.

Definitely.

The shot was well struck but you'd expect the 'keeper to push that around the post or out wide. Not into the middle of the box.

You'll make it up believe me. Wenger for once needs to be "extravagant" by his standards and go buy a striker in January. Rest of your team is fine. For a change there is also a little bit of depth to this Arsenal side. Your midfield and defense are better than Chelsea's imo.

I don't think its far away that Chelsea would start dropping off. It will begin this Sunday.

If they do better than 4th it will be a massive achievement, though at the same time I would never bet against them coming in lower than that. They always seem to manage to pull something out of the hat, and the other teams (I am looking at you, Spurs) that should be taking their opportunity never fail to choke.

I dont understand all this writing off of Chelsea at all.

Chelsea squad is significatly better than Arsenal's. Fully fit first 11s are pretty equal.

Pepe Reina has the same problem. Although most of his parry's back into the mix are under little pressure.

I thought it was Scezney in goals. The highlights I watched were grainy.

Every time Mannone's name is mentioned, I die a little inside.

Everytime we say Mannone, I die a little,
Everytime we say Mannone, I wonder why a little,
Why the Gods above me, who must be in the know.
Think so little of me, they allow you in goal.
When you're near, there's such an air of doom about it,
Everytime we say Mannone.

I hope so but not really counting on it!

Naah he is out injured at the moment, still 2-3 weeks away from coming back :(

They have no competition for 4th. Liverpool are dire even if they've managed to pick up form a little and are only 3 points behind Arsenal, Everton's squad is paper thin which is bound to haunt them (I'm thinking of reverse of regular season for them, usually they start slowly and play well between March and May, now it'll be the opposite), Tottenham are laughable when it comes to competing with Arsenal and are 100% certain to finish lower.

Sorry I just read what I wrote and I did not write what I meant. I meant I would never bet ON them coming in lower than that, not bet AGAINST it. As you said, not many other teams look capable of usurping them for the 4th spot. Though on paper Spurs should IMO.

He's a Mannone a mission, a mission to make Arsenal fail.

hmmmm...

Wenger must get more than £2,150,000 a year? Hughes is on way more than double that.
