Arturo Vidal

No Mitten said that the Club are briefing Journos that they are not interested. He also defended his sources from yesterday.

Do you think he defended his sources over Vidal or just in general?

Just curious - I get the impression he is back tracking on yesterday when he says his sources have been correct in the past (but wasn't so keen on reiterating he trusted them for Vidal update he gave just yesterday).

Surely more chance of getting him than Vidal, even without CL i'm sure we are a more attractive club than Wolfsburg.
Well yeah, you could say that for loads of players. Vidal is one of the best midfielders in the world, so we shouldn't just give up on him if we have a chance to get him. We should have back up options if we can't get Vidal, but he should very much be our #1 choice.

Gustavo has a buyout clause, imo.

But he is a pretty limited destroyer type player like a De Jong. Will be interesting if we play with those.

I think it's more down to us really. I'm sure Vidal does want to come, but I doubt he'd force a move as juventus is also a great club and he wouldn't want to burn his ties with the club. It's up to us to offer Juventus' asking price for Vidal, as has always been the case. We aren't going to get him for £30m of course, but if Marotta said he was for sale, there was a chance at that with all the balls being in our court pretty much.

As it is, it's the same as before. Will we offer what they are asking? If so, he's ours. If not, he's staying. All there is to it IMO, unfair to criticize any journos either as there's no way of knowing if we will or won't.

I disagree. As Mitten said yesterday, money is not an issue for United regarding signing players this summer, with the proviso that those players actually, genuinely, want to come. We'll find out soon enough what Vidal wants.

Regarding Jackson's article about Vidal :http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jul/16/arturo-vidal-not-joining-manchester-united-juventus

As Vidal was a target of the former manager, David Moyes, he remained on the list retained by United for Louis van Gaal, his successor, to consider. However, the Dutchman recently informed the club executive that he was not currently interested in him.

Last week: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jul/06/arturo-vidal-manchester-united-louis-van-gaal-40m

Arturo Vidal is on Louis van Gaal’s radar as a summer transfer target, with the Manchester United manager an admirer of the Juventus midfielder who starred as Chile reached the last 16 of the World Cup.

Yes i agree, but was just thinking of an alternative if we can't get him.

Well, i imagine his sources which he trusts gave him the Vidal info which he shared earlier but yesterday United started briefing they weren't interested.

Now he doesn't know the motivation behind this brief.

That's what it seemed like to me.

Gustavo has a buy out clause of around 32m EUR if memory serves... 'Kicker' reported it a couple of weeks ago and they are quite reliable.

32 million Euro hmm.. I'd rather bid 40-45 million euros and see if there's a chance at Martinez first, if he wants to come ocourse.

He's a makeshift CB under Pep.

This is off and to be honest I'm starting to believe it was never on.

I believe it will be Nigel de Jong and Vermaelen and that will have been our transfer window.

We will have bought breathtaking players in the right positions. All in all a good transfer window.

Vidal would have been nice but the club are not desperate about him and rightly so.

Well I'm sure we have the money, it doesn't mean we'll spend a ridiculous amount for a 27 year old, irregardless of how good he is. Just because we can spend loads, doesn't mean we'll throw it around stupidly. If we don't think Vidal isn't worth what juventus are asking, or the 4 years or so he has left in his prime isn't worth that much, then we won't bid that much. My opinion of course. Vidal isn't actively going to force a move, that very rarely happens, especially with world class players already at top clubs.

I presumed Conte walking was a result of the club wanting to sell Vidal without the managers consent but maybe Conte wanted to sell him and the club refused

So they said it in the press conference and now pull off a double body slam to the muppets... seems like this Vidal thing was merely made up on twitter. No credible source ever confirmed our interest.

Wow twitter sure is powerful nowadays, it can create a story and make it lead its own life whilst the subjects involved in the rumor are scratching their heads all the way through.

So it off? That is a shame. I believed we needed a quality signing this summer in the ilk of either Di Maria, Kroos or Vidal in order to keep competition lively. Looks like Mata and Louis Van Gaal will more than suffice for next season.

I still believe we need a partner to Herrera other than the list of midfielders we currently have. I believe Van Gaal will wait till January to make Strootman that signing if we do not get any other midfield players this window. I would prefer we address that issue at the moment and bring in William Carvalho or my personal favorite Ruben loftus Cheeks, Rabiot, or Chalobah.

Guess Mitten's not as reliable as we thought.
Not really. What journos or people like mitten say is never 100%. We almost definitely are interested, but that doesn't mean we'll get him. Mitten was told we were in negotiations, and maybe we are, maybe the deal is dead, maybe it's very much on. Fact is we don't know, and Mitten just said what he was told. Just because we tried to sign him doesn't mean we will for sure sign him.

Will that continue though? With Vidal giving interviews to Chilean TV saying he's heard the rumours and will let his Agent takecare of business I think this deal will be done in a due course.

I have a feeling they'll dig their heels in regarding Vidal but might be more willing to sell Pogba.

The Vidal situation has gotten too much of a touchy subject with their fans for them to sell now.

After so much promise this would equal the most underwhelming transfer window since... well last summer. I wish we would put our hands in our pockets rather than fannying about with awful, gamble signings. Fellaini, Smalling, Young, Hernandez most our other signings ... all signed in HOPE they will turn into world beaters rather than buying what our squad needs... Genuine world beaters
