Arturo Vidal

I am 70-30 towards off on this now.

Quiet a possibility now too, that in tomorrow's presser LVG or Woodward or whoever is this will end this.

I had always been Anti-Muppet, but I have to admit that the Chilean press fooled me on this one and had me go into the muppet dark side.

My original opinion on the Arturo speculation was correct: These rumors were made up as soon as the LVG quotes regardling Vidal were released. It was bullshit.

Time to move on.
Surprised that people seem to think Chilean press is any more reliable than UK press. They all a bunch of wind up merchants.

What is obvious is that if we are aggressive financially on this one we can get our man.

My fear is rarely whether a player would move to us - CL exclusion for one season is nothing - it's whether we will pay market rates at the top end. We overpay for average and young players, but never do the business for top targets.

No but the quotes seemed genuine that they have no intention to sell. It all seems like a bullshit rumour that has blown up.
How is it a bullshit rumour when the player himself said we are an option? I'd trust the actual player over some journos any day.

I am 50-50 on this now.

Quiet a possibility now too, that in tomorrow's presser LVG or Woodward or whoever is this will end this.
Yeah I'm waiting for either LVG or Woody to say something tomorrow, until then I'll be holding my judgement on the likelihood of this transfer happening.

Of course. I think it's well established that United have briefed the media.

Question is, are they feeding journos lies, or are we really not in for him?

Vidal seemed open to a move, so if he's truly not on our radar, I find it strange.
The fact that not one appears to have broken ranks and suggested they're being fed nonsense suggest to me they all believe it. In that sense I'm dubious that we could convince that many people considering there are other sources they could get info from that might directly contradict what the club is briefing.

Can we just lock this thread, at least until Vidal or Van Gaal confirm this is on or off.

They will say nothing....guaranteed. We are assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the squad blah blah.

Wonder who we're in for then...? I find the idea we're not looking at another midfielder astonishing. Even allowing for how good LvG is, our midfield options are woeful.

if and it might be a big if, we are not in for Vidal. I just wish United would squash these rumors from early on.

Am I the only one that sees this as yet another flip-flop from the press? They really have no fecking clue!

Juve were always going to say not for sale - saying he's on the market would weaken their hand.

Let's not forget what Vidal has himself said - he's open to move.

If we're not in for him, I hope to God we've got someone else lined up. Herrera alone is not enough.

Thats just a rehash of about 50 posts on here since the Juve presser. All those fell on deaf ears too FM..

"Lets just wait & see how it all pans out.." (Quoting meself here) ;)

This deal was never close to on.

This is probably the closest Man UTD got to negotiating for Vidal

Juventus: Hi Ed.

Woodward: Just calling regarding the availability of Arturo Vidal. Would you consider selling him for the right price?

Juventus: He is not for sale. He is one of our most valuable players

Ed: Thank you for your time

I reckon that's exactly what you'll see tomorrow, which might take the shine off the press conference for a few people.

they should state their position on the matter, usually they would deny or confirm some kind of involvement... Its on and off this transfer more times than a garth brooks concert in Ireland!

Oh yeah, we always confirm or deny our stance on potential transfers in the press (last summer excluded).

:lol::lol: You clearly don't know the standard of English football journalism then!

All these guys are doing is reporting cold hard fact's which they are being told.

Sure the Juve Director is right now putting on a brave face, but let's see what happen's when the Conte dust settles.

The fact remains they need money to buy new players, and with Pogba/Pirlo/Marchisio they have a decent 3 options already.

Mate its The Guardian (Jamie Jackson), Di Marzio, BBC, DailyMail, The Mirror, Ducker, Sky and Andy Mitten. I find it extremely difficult that they are ALL wrong about this. I am aware that some are quoting the Juventus CE however pretty much all were told that we're not in for Vidal prior to that.

In any case, for the sake of our sanity I am assuming that this is dead (until proven otherwise) and I think im handling it better than expected I reckon all the years of missing out on players help!

The guy from Juventus said they never even sat down with United? I find that hard to believe given the negotiations over Evra. The press conference seems like a bit of PR to me. It's neither on or off at the moment.

Wonder who we're in for then...? I find the idea we're not looking at another midfielder astonishing. Even allowing for how good LvG is, our midfield options are woeful.

The thing is almost every single one of the people saying the deal is off had once said Vidal was on the radar. Also almost all of them believe we are looking for a CB, CM and now a LB cos of Evra. So why then do they not ask or say who are we in for if its not Vidal? It has literally been Vidal or nothing as far as Midfielders are concerned. And then there's the Evra deal, You would think we could have concluded that quite early on If there was nothing in it for us. To allow us to look for his replacement quicker...

A bunch of things happening that dont make logical sense.

Why? If you don't want to take part in a thread, then don't. These calls for a thread to be locked are absurd. By the logic that nothing is happening then we should kill 90 of the transfer forum.

That's not strictly true though, Jackson retweeted a few people who said stuff like it could all be lies, it could be the truth, but he's just saying what he's heard. I doubt the others all believe it too. They were told that so they are repeating the information, whether it's true or not is another matter. If the club is denying reports to one journalist, why would we say anything different to the others? Maybe I'm just being too optimistic about all this but I don't think the situation is anything different from yesterday really. He's available at the right price and it's up to us to bid that much.

I don't like this new trend of writing short comedy sketches.

Am i the only one who is not believing this "it is off" stories. I expected them to say Vidal is not for sale until they actually sell him. If the would say no comment on Vidal or he is still Juve player that will mean that he will be sold so they have to say he is not for sale. Image Juve fans if they wouldn't said that.

Press just don't know what is happening and are writting whatever is thrown at them. We clearly don't talk to press anymore so they are left without information.

For me the most trustworthy are Chile press in this case because they have no agenda and it is clear that Vidal and his people are willing to speak to them. If it would be off they would say it. Italian press are saying what they hear from Juve and Biritsh press are left in the dark.

Great point on Evra. I assumed the hold up was Vidal...

If i was putting money on it id say it could drag on for quite a while.

Juventus are in a very strong position, domestically similarly to when we thought we wernt losing Ronaldo,so Vidal will hurt them but as many have pointed out they are hardly short in the midfield department,so getting 40 mill of us theyll pick someone up like Cuadrado,Kovacevic,Pjanic from their league no sweat.<or someone similar, you know what i mean>

Hed be an amazing signing and my hopes are up,but the re shuffle has literally just kicked off so there ll be lulls and lots of twatter nonsense fuelling it all.

Keep calm.
Its going to be an exciting 2 weeks.

van Gaal is all over this whatever happens.

Perhaps. Or perhaps he's retweeting those things laughing at people believing in a far-fetched story.

Isn't the point that we appear to be saying we don't want him, not that we don't want him at a particular price?

For whatever it's worth I think this is a dead duck now. I don't think you need to brief this many journos to say a deal is off if you're spoofing. Let's face it, all they had to do was have Ducker and Ogden write pieces saying we're not interested and the story would have all but killed off for a good portion of the people following it.

What else was Allegri going to come out and say? Vidal only stated that he is happy to continue with the club. Hes already said this himself that if he doesnt get transferred elsewhere then he will be happy to stay a Juve player. Never give up hope I still believe

They're all just repeating what Marotta said though, doesn't make it more wrong or right. We know he said he's not up for sale, it just depends on if you think he's 100% firm on that stance or if he is just holding out for a certain price. Sky and BBC haven't said anything about it really other then what Marotta said today, and sky reported the interview where Vidal himself said we were an option.
As for mitten, he said that we are just denying everything, not that the deal was dead or anything like that.

Can someone summarize what happened today? Why the mass muppet suicide?

They're not, though. This started prior to the Juve presser. They're clearly saying United are not in for him. That can only come from us. How can Juve give them that information?

What else was he supposed to come out and say? He's one of their best players, they don't want to upset their fans and say we are looking to sell him. It's a win win situation for them , if he stays - great, if he goes it will be Vidal's fault because he wanted to leave.

I'm stating the obvious here- we just have to wait no point in speculating.

Thats the thing, if you remove all the posturing and just look at the actual evidence its hard to acertain that Vidal isnt on his way here....or at least on his way out of Juventus.

Conte wouldn't have resigned if Vidal wasn't sold.
