Nothing will happen in the transfermarket for us for atleast 2 weeks or more, pretty much confirmed by LVG in his presser, time to take our muppet stuff and move out, nothing to see here !

United and Barcelona have more romantic appeal to some players but it's generally true that Madrid are the main attraction. I don't fully understand why since I'd prefer Barca over Madrid but there we go.

Thought I read that Suarez' in-laws live near Barcelona, and he is buying a house near them.

It will be like coming home for his wife then

Let's also not forget that the "attraction" of the Spanish giants also has a lot to do with how much money they pay their players. If Real wouldn't have offered Kroos the money he didn't get from Bayern I doubt he would have moved to Madrid. First and foremost players will go where they can earn the most money the romantic feelings they might have for a club always only come second.

LVG has worked with Kroos before, so if he didn't fit into the system he wants to play that is understandable he rejected Kroos as well. He might think that his best role is as a deep 10. And there might be doubts about both his and Fabregas' workrate/defensive contribution as a 8.

Him wanting to go to Real instead is understandable as well and them wanting to buy him because he is pretty good rather with a specific plan as well.

Moyes was clearly after him along with a DM, so tough to know what happened.

Jones is a CB and he's needed in defense. Shouldn't we just get proper midfielders for a midfield role? Even if it means adding more players surely we can get rid of alot of deadwood in the team + Strootman would need proper cover/competition (Carrick is 33 and wont last long)

You must have known something!

You're right of course I was just saying worst case scenario, decent midfielders just seem to be a bugger to sign, but now with Carrick out I'm sure we will have to do something asap, even it's not the player we all want.

I'm sorry, I don't believe for a second van Gaal deemed Kroos unsuitable. He opted for Madrid over us and we attempted to save face.

In fairness though, as soon as Van Gaal was appointed a Bayern fan on here (think it was Blackwidow) said that we'd drop our interest in Kroos pretty quickly, given he was never that fond of him when at Bayern. A matter of days later, it was everywhere that we weren't interested any longer. Doubt Kroos was overly keen to join us anyway but it's not a given that Van Gaal would've maintained our interest.

My take on the situation is that Kross had his agent whore him out to the top sides in Europe, ourselves, Barcelona and Real Madrid, who he has been linked with all year. Finally he settled on Madrid.

Quite possibly (even likely), just saying that Van Gaal may not have wanted him either.

Strootman in January when van Gaal realises just how weak our midfield is.

He's a smart man he'll have realised how weak it was weeks ago, now with Carrick out it makes it pitiful, unless there is a gem, or two in youth that he thinks can step up now, or is planning on a switch to midfield for the likes of Rooney, Jones, or Valencia (unlikely) then he has to do something asap, would love Strootman now if his injury is 100% fixable.

I don't believe for a second that LVG removed Kroos from our transfer list, I fully believe Kroos rejected us. No CL no signature

Whereas I think his agent probably said that we would have to massively outbid Madrid's wages offer, because we didn't have CL football, and LvG said that was game over. I also think that's what we mean about, "Players who want to play for United."

I even think Vidal and his agent have been/are being asked the same question.

I think its worth spending an extra 5-10million because carrick is now out and we need a class replacement

Looks like the English papers were true for once

Any time we're linked with a world class player and someone says it's not happening they're telling the truth even if it's a complete guess

I guess Kroos is similar to Thiago in that people will be arguing over whether Moyes/LvG actually turned them down or if that's a story we pushed to save face after being knocked back in favour of Bayern/Madrid.

If the Vidal links end up with a similar result then I guess we'll know for sure that we've been turned down. There's no we'd turn our noses up at Thiago, Kroos and Vidal while signing lesser players like Herrera and Fellaini.

This ain't happening. The only thing keeping this alive is optimism on our part. I love the guy and want him here too, but I'vs since accepted that we aren't going to get any players like him cause Moyes messed us up beyond repair. "The long term traditional experiment" cost us top quality signings and Champions League football. Anyone could see it coming a mile away.

I'm not even holding out for a hidden gem. I want a big marquee signing. Those are the type of signings United are known for. We don't settle for less.

We very very rarely sign big names from abroad. The last time was probably Veron, maybe Hargreaves.

When we buy big we almost always buy players who are already in the Premiership.

We'd have struggled to get a player like Vidal under SAF too. Not all Moyes' fault.

All our potential moves are off 'til van Gaal assesses the sorry bunch.
That I don't believe. He knows he can't loose too much time and I'm sure he already has an idea where we need improvements. It's just a way to get more time

Nah, there's no bullshit with van Gaal. He's gonna allow the current crop time to impress him, add to that the fact I'm sure he's more than confident in his own ability to perform with the players at his disposal and that he could be described as an anti-muppet.

It's also a way to make his players raise their game to impress him in training. If they think the manager has come in with his mind made up on who stays and who goes it's perhaps less of an incentive.

Strootman in January when van Gaal realises just how weak our midfield is.

That would be stupid. LVG shouldn't wish to see how our current midfielders are performing, but just make the arbitrary call by axing Fellaini, Anderson and Cleverley now instead. There's so much documented evidence about those 3 players that LVG would not even need pre-season time to make a decision.

Besides, we just can't hope anything (results, developing youngsters through first-team players acting as role models, etc.) unless we have quality midfielders to lead the way.

I just can't buy that. Fellaini, Anderson and Cleverley are examples of what's wrong at United. I can't see how and why they would deserve another chance, especially when 2 of them already failed (to a different extent) under 2 managers.
