Arturo Vidal

Why would asking if you are interested in Vidal be tougher than some of the other stuff they came up with ?

Like Are you autocratic ?
I don't think that's bad to ask. It's not like they asked if he's a dictator (even if it implies that a little), and didn't seem to be asking it in an accusatory way. Even so, LVG turned it back on the media and called them out for wanting to create that image of him.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they were told ahead of time not to bother asking about prospective transfers. Not that the media are told what they can and can't ask, but if they're clearly told that they're not going to get an answer, why risk unleashing his wrath for nothing?

Yeah but how great was the way the Herrera news broke? Late monday night and I was thinking no way! Thursday he was signed. Would love one more of those transfers this summer.
Agreed! It is the best way, rather than the usual saga running on and on only for it to end with heartbreak! Although I am hoping for more than one more of these type of surprise transfers! ;)

We've been linked with Vidal heavily in the last week, every journalist on twitter is probably getting bombarded with questions about him from united fans, I just don't understand why a journalist didn't ask about Vidal or another specific player!

They are told beforehand if there are any topics which will not be answered. I'd imagine it's in their best interests to avoid getting on the bad side of the club (and especially LVG) in the very first presser!

Vidal would be smart to jump ship now. He is at the right age for a big transfer to one of the big clubs and Allegri is a disaster waiting to happen. I think his career will stall a bit if he stays at Juve. I don't see them challenging in Europe under Allegri and even Serie A might be a bridge too far.

I'm not saying that only because I'd love him at United. If he agitates for a move, I'm sure there will be other suitors as well (although most other big clubs have higher priorities than midfield).

He's completed his cycle at Juve and it's time to start his cycle at United...

Problem with the transfer? we need to sort out the other area's of the squad, the more it drags out, the more its difficult to wrap up other deals, like another defender or 2, and a wide player. At this rate we may is well look to our academy, because the transfer market does not seem to work well with MUFC. If this summer is wasted, we got to not only look at midfield and defence again for another wasted summer, but the frontline needs looking at, has rooney approaches 29, and RVP comes to 32

Remember the quote in Titanic 1997 (women and machinery do not mix) seems to be the case with united, transfers and MUFC do not mix

Just when you think this thread is about to die a death, Vidal pops up to reignite it

We're still a long way from any potential deal. Vidal has to return from vacation, van Gaal has to assess our mediocre midfield, and Woodward has to return from pre-season for urgent business.

Why are people getting all worked up about Vidal is not for sale, of course the board is going to say that after they lost their successful and loved manager to keep the fans at bay and to up his price. We haven't made a bid yet and I assume we will after his holidays and LVG's time assessing the squad. Vidal wants the move but is being a professional about it.

He's quite clearly open to move this summer. It's pretty clear from all the quotes he gives.

Just the hard part is convincing Juve and he won't exactly Push for a move.

Doesn't really change anything as we already knew he was open to a move.

As before, it's down to what price Juve will sell at and how quick we'll be to pay it. At that point you hope no other clubs swoop in to make things difficult for us.

He's completed his cycle at Juve and it's time to start his cycle at United...

Nope. The actual translation of the quote is "I could not say I've completed a cycle at Juve"

He wouldn't be saying things like "If I stay", if there was nothing in the rumours.

It's not too important whether he said "Could not" or "Could" because it has no bearing on how open to a move he is. Sure, he'd want to win the CL with Juve and that would be a full cycle but the question for him now is how likely is that? I still think we're going to sign him but it's not worth dissecting every comment. He's not going to confirm he wants to move but he certainly hasn't quashed the rumours when asked about United.

It's clear that Vidal is open to move this summer, but if LvG is really serious about waiting 4 weeks before he makes any more transfers there's a good chance he'll be gone. I highly doubt United is the be-all end-all for a player of Vidal's calibre.

Clevelery, Fellaini, Fletcher and Ando... what could possibly LvG need to assess? These are some very limited players, and it's been evident for years.

If it was a United player being linked to another club, everybody would be well nervous with the lack of certainty from the player at whether he wants to stay.

Are you 100% sure on them quotes mate? These quotes are also doing the rounds

Arturo Vidal: "you could say that I have completed a cycle in Juventus. "If I" stay, I intend to continue doing things well"

100%. Look at the first bit of the quote:

"No podría decir que".

podría = could
Putting 'no' before it makes it could not

Having just bought Kroos, surely Madrid won't be interested? Their midfield is loaded with talent already, and unless they want to move someone on it doesn't make sense. Alonso, perhaps? Different players, but hey, it's Madrid.

Yeah, Real are surely going to have their front six something like:

Alonso/Modric Kroos
Bale James Ronaldo
Benzema

The odd thing about all of this is that he's never given any clear indication that he actually wants to stay at Juve. Whenever he's asked about these rumors he doesn't outright deny them but rather answers vaguely. In my opinion, he's been approached by us but is weighing his options. It may be a case of him wanting higher wages but given Juve's financial situation I don't think that's possible. I wasn't too sure about this whole transfer but as the weeks go by, it looks more likely that he's leaving.

I won't be that upset if this saga ends with him staying at Juve. The real meltdown, however, will be if he leaves and doesn't end up here :nervous:

If you saw Andy Mittens video it gives one the impression that we've tapped him up.

Yeah this is pretty much my thinking as well. I'll be disappointed but I won't be devastated. Though if he ends up at Bayern or somewhere else I'll be furious.
