One season loan with option to buy for €12m, also I thought they were pretty stacked with mids?

With quality yeah, but not at all quantity. They play with 3 of Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio and Pogba and 2 of those picked up fairly lengthy injuries at some point last season, while another is like 35 years old or something. The backup is Padoin and afaik, not much else. Regardless of if anyone leaves, their midfield needed strengthening this window, depth-wise.

He's a winger though, I just checked.

Why are you folks trying to rationalize Madrid's transfer policy?

They've always followed the "buy now, think later" approach. I can see them going for him just because they sense that he's available even though they don't need him. I hope not though, he could improve us immensely.

That policy you're referring to is from the past. With Marotta now in charge they're alot more astute in the transfer market due to their financial state.

The post you quoted was about Real Madrid.

Pereyra? Not really no... if this season is much to go on at least. He's fairly versatile. When they play their xmas tree thing, Udinese usually have him as one of the 2 players off the striker, but he's played in midfield quite a lot as well. I think I saw him playing as a wingback a couple of months ago as well. Juventus seem to like their versatile players.

It'd be absolutely crazy to pass up an opportunity to sign him.

It's interesting what's going on with the club. They obviously don't want the media speculating about it. Andy Mitten said there was contact one day, and the next day he backtracked and said there was none. His sources obviously told him in the first place. With Vidal confirming that there was some kind of contact, it appears that the club and desperately trying to keep whatever they are doing, or not doing, extremely quiet.

Mitten didn't backtrack. He said there was contact and that we're negotiating, then that evening stories broke in British media which seemed like United have informed media we're not chasing Vidal. Mitten then the following day basically said that the club have told the media there is no interest in Vidal but that he's confident his source/s is spot on. He then used the Valencia friendly which he broke a week before it was officially announced as an example of how reliable his source is.

Interesting...

I'm surprised Chelsea haven't gone in for him. They've been snapping up our midfield targets for years.

Again guys stay calm ;)

He just said he heard interest from Real Madrid, but for me that doesn't mean Real wants Vidal now. I am pretty sure that Real watched him several times in the past, so he could mean that? But now after signing Kroos and now dealing with James, I don't think they will sign Vidal atm. Yeah it's Real and if they are trying to get him, they will probably get him, but still no reason for me to cry, let's wait till he is back from vacation, there will be tons of stuff in the next days and everything will be just some shit, which doesn't mean anything.

Just my opinion, but I think this deal is just a case of Vidal returning from holiday and us putting the money on the table.Vidal seems more than willing to move here, Juventus are putting on a tough face in public but all reports are that they would be willing to sell at around €50M. The only unknown really is ourselves, we have been air tight on transfers since LVG arrived but we would be crazy to turn down Vidal and we have the money to pay that price.

Yeah I think so too, it's in our hands imo. We just have to pay the right fee. If we try to get him on the cheap, then we can forget it, because Vidal will not force a move away. He loves Juve and is happy there, he seems to want the move, but if it doesn't work out, it will be ok for him to stay there.

Hazard? Going further back Mikel? There have been a few over the years. Definitely doesn't constitute a trend though.
Hazard  That saga wins as the worst transfer saga we've faced. Didn't he announce he chose Chelsea on Twitter?

Sneijder, Benzema and Thiago were all far worse/more magnificent/epic/ridiculous/horrible.

There were rumours about Matic, that Fergie was interested and he said no to us. And yeah Mikel some years ago, but that was the one which was good for us

Some years ago Essien too

I'm not sure Essien counts - we actually had him on trial and apparently Fergie turned him down for being 'too small'. Not sure how true it is, but he's mentioned it in interviews plenty of times over the years.

Not talking about the trail.
We we're in for him, the summer Chelsea snapped him up for £24m

Alonso is done. Khedira is being sold. Di Maria looks like he is leaving too.
Vidal to Madrid could make sense.

Kroos-Vidal-Modric
and Bale, Ronaldo, Someone else ahead of them

Some midfield that would be

They also have Isco and Illaramendi and with James they could switch back to 4-2-3-1, but yeah it's Real, I have given up to use logic when they are signing players.

So if Benzema plays CF, where does the supposedly earth-shatteringly expensive Rodriguez fit in?
