200k is great compared to the likes of young who is on 120k a week and is not worth half that amount, at least Vidal is world class, I mean we are paying Rooney 300k a week at the minute which is crazy money! But as stated by previous posts we have already reduced the wage bill considerably with vidic rio giggs evra and whoever else is leaving. I want to believe this so I'm going to, even if I end up broken hearted I want this to happen so am all in. The fact the press haven't linked us with any other midfielders at the moment and Carrick is unfortunately buggered for a bit, it would make all the sense in the world for us to just offer the £35m or so to make this happen. Van Gaal would clearly love him and just as importantly with the way football is these days the United brand would also love him too when you take in to account how United can't post anything on Facebook or Twitter without 80% of comments under it from fans being about signing Vidal.
This is the difference between us potentially winning the league and not, we have to make this happen....or sign someone else who will have a similar impact. I'm very happy with Herrera and Shaw but at the end of the day the clubs who we should be up there with, Madrid, Barca, Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern have their big name marquee signings and have thus strengthened significantly, now it has to be our turn it's as simple as that.

200k is a LOT of money. And i think only a handful of players not playing for the PSG's etc of this world earn that much.
A players value and salary is usualy based on his marketability as well as his talent. We dont pay RVP 200k or more just because he is a good striker, he also happens to be the player who sells the most tops in the league. Rooneys contract was also explained not so long ago (theres a thread with the article).

After the debacle of last season, he has simply got to deliver this season transfer wise. His reputation and maybe even his job is on the line if we fail this season, with lack of quality in the team being the prime reason for it. Judging by how confident he sounds, he has got to have something in the bag otherwise there is no reason for him to give this interview. Appeasing fans with false promises can only work for so long(unless you are Arsenal obviously) and he can't be silly enough to think he can get away with it like last season.

He prides himself at his record of bringing through young talent etc, but that doesnt work in the modern game now. You cannot rely on just youth players to bring through & make the team world-beaters. Its a new world of new money clubs..
If he wants success this season - he has to spend on top-class players & i'm not even gonna get into how many i think he needs to buy, because its obvious our defence, CM & wing is a disgrace - for the self-titled "best club in the world".

If Van Gaal came in last season, we would have probably seen him give the likes of Zaha, Lingard, Powell, Pereira, Pearson etc a run in the first team like how he did with Bayern a few years ago. He seems really averse to making high-profile signings and prefers to buy players or bed in youth prospects who can buy into his philosophy and tactical set-up. However, that is not the scenario he finds himself in right now and this season is absolutely critical. He knows all about the pressure there is to take United right back to the top after last season. There will also be added pressure on the first team and it is not the ideal time to blood in youngsters and it can be detrimental to their development if they have a bad game or two. Not everyone can truly step up in troubled times like Januzaj did last season.
So I would expect him to be more hands-on and short-term when it comes to our transfers and our first team. After he steadies the ship this season, he will probably look to blood in more youngsters from the youth set-up in the future. I guess he will only give the cream of the crop(Pearson maybe?) chances in the first team this season and bring in reinforcements from transfers. We only have 3 established central defenders(all injury prone), 2 full backs with no ideal cover and a midfield clogged with shite. With Carrick's injury we are most certainly going to be active in the market. Our wingers are disappointing as well but we have to see what he makes of Zaha, Lingard, Nani and Januzaj. The only question is do we buy high-profile, quality players(Vidal, Hummels etc) or go for stop-gap short-term players(De-Jong, Vermaelan etc). I wouldn't mind either as LVG knows what he is doing, but after Studward's explosive interview we don't really have a choice on that front anymore do we...
Talk about stating the obvious... Chilean media seem to be churning out report after report. Really hope there is something in it. I remember a user here saying that their local club was linked to a Chilean player and the Chilean media had kept reporting on it frequently. In the end there was nothing to it apparently. There is more to Vidal and United links obviously, but the repetitive nature of their claims leaves me in doubt about their credibility. Hope they are not using Vidal and United's popularity to just sell a few newspapers...
If they wanted to sell papers it would've been better for the Chilean media to link Vidal to Real or Barca who are more popular in Chile.
