Rafa and Evra possibly with knocks and Scholes suspended plus an early kickoff after a grueling match.

van der Sar

Brown
Ferdinand
Vidic
O'Shea

Nani
Fletcher
Carrick
Giggs

Berbatov
Hernandez

SUBS: Kuszcak, Smalling, J Evans, Anderson, Gibson, Park, Obertan.

Win this and we're looking in good shape for when we get to the Christmas period.

So well any chance of Rooney returning for this? Berba and Chicharito are doing very well but if we do play a lone striker then there is no one better than that for us than Rooney.

Team should be...

GK: VDS

RB: Brown
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Vidic
LB: O'Shea

RM: Nani
CM: Fletcher
CM: Carrick
LM: Park

CF: Berbatov
CF: Hernandez

Subs: PIG, Smalling, Fabio, Gibson, Obertan, Bebe, Macheda

Hope we win :)

Everyone seems to be predicting pretty much the same team, and I'd have to agree with them.

Pretty much agree with the team everyone is selecting but I'm not sure if Nani is really fit, it might be an idea to put him on the bench just in case and start with Obertan.

Early kick off? feck sakes, that means a shit match.

I was confident of a win until I realised this.

Really hope Giggs is back for this one, by all accounts by Saturday hed have had 2 full weeks of training and the talk last week was he could be involved against Wolves so he surely cant be far away, its a bit shit its an early kick off but Villa had a tough game of their own tonight and barely managed to squeeze past a second string blackpool side, no doubt they'll raise their game against us but even so if we play properly we should win.

Concern for full-backs

The cornerstones of United's defence could be altered against Aston Villa on Saturday, following injuries to both full-backs in the Manchester derby.

Rafael limped off early in the second half against City when it became apparent that he couldn't shake off a knock suffered just before the break, in a feisty duel with former Reds striker Carlos Tevez. Later, Patrice Evra was also withdrawn from the fray, leaving Sir Alex Ferguson to fret on his French left-back's fitness.

"Patrice had an ankle injury which we'll assess tomorrow," Sir Alex told MUTV.

"Rafael has a dead leg, so it's not so bad. He'll miss Saturday of course but he should be ready for the following week."

Cynics and City fans might have sneered at the manager's pre-match talk of injuries and illness when a strong United side was named an hour before kick-off. But the boss insists there were genuine concerns in the ranks at Carrington.

"We've done well to get a good team on the pitch tonight," Sir Alex added.

"The big problem for us was Scholes and Fletcher. Scholes has been on medication for the last two days, he hasn't trained. Darren only trained this morning. He had an ankle injury but he showed today he was okay."

Wes Brown and John O'Shea both turned in good performances as second-half substitutes for Rafael and Evra and the academy-produced pair and are on standby to start at Villa Park

It seems: Evra could be out for a few days after the international break, Rafael might return (assuming it's not a John O'Shea dead leg thing) but may miss the Brazil game and an oppertunity for a first cap. Scholes is still a little ill so has nearly a week and a half to recover.

Does anyone know why Kuszczak wasn't on the bench tonight?

we're heating up and i really fancy us to win this and win it well
Berbs to be amongst the goals

I expect a win.This Villa team isn't impressive

At a guess I'd say the team would look something like:

Bradley Friedel

Luke Young
Richard Dunne
James Collins
Stephen Warnock

Ciaran Clark
Barry Bannan
Marc Albrighton

Stewart Downing
Gabriel Agbonlahor
Ashley Young

with the likes of Brad Guzan, Carlos Cuellar (if fit), Nathan Delfouneso and Stephen Ireland on the bench.

What is exactly wrong with that?

He means form as opposed to names on a list.

Well the defence is reasonably strong as is the forward three, haven't seen the young midfield in action but there's no room for Stephen Ireland in Houlier's plans, so it's probably strong enough. Ciaran Clarke seems to have emerged as a bit of a utility player, which has problem helped their midfield discipline a bit.

They haven't done too badly considering the inexperience of their youth axis

Villa barely managed to squeeze past a second string blackpool last night, lets not blow to much smoke up their arses, their a decent side who on home turf are dangerous with some quick tricky forwards, but they are not in very good form and have a few key men out injured just our luck Agbonlahors first start back after a long injury will be against us still he cant be anywhere near full fitness so id back Rio and Vidic to control him, the main threat will come from Young who Houlliers plays just off the front in the hole, which might make Sir alex consider a 5 man midfield again for this one, i think we'll pinpoint him as their danger man.

All again depends on who we have fit, hopefully baring the 2 full backs and the obvious suspension of Scholes we'll have all of last nights available plus maybe Giggs and Anderson.

Not sure who to expect on the wings. Nani didn't look 100% to me last night but seeings he got through the full game you would assume he must be alright. Park looked absolutely fecked by the end of last nights game, at least thats what i'm going to blame his first touch on. Giggs, i'm not sure if he'll start following a bit of a layoff, thought he'd be more likely brought on for the last 20. Obertan? Possibly to freshen the side up a bit. Might offer us more spark/flair on the left than an O'Shea-Park combination would.

I'll go for

---------VDS---------

Brown---Rio---Vidic---O'Shea

Nani---Carrick---Fletcher---Obertan

-------Berba-----Hernandez-------

Subs
PIG
Smalling
Fabio
Gibson
Giggs
Eikrem (Anderson if fit)
Macheda

Berba loves playing midday matches. He'll have an awesome game, probably score a goal or two

I'm not blowing smoke up their arses, I agree that they should improve their capability in front of their own fans in Villa Park, and the laboured victory over Blackpool reserves should be a major wakeup call.

Villa have struggled in recent seasons due to a lack of a real ballwinning midfielder, maybe Fergie should risk 4-4-2, particularly since United don't have "the most attacking fullbacks in the world". The forward 3 are going to move into each and every defenders area, but these tactics could leave them short for the counterattack. They look like a side that defends very deep and attacks very high, It'd be a good game for players who can run with the ball like Anderson, Park, Nani etc. I'd also try to keep Macheda on the bench for good luck if possible.
