Aston Villa vs. Manchester United

We certainly needs to put more pace into our game. Wide men are not running at their man and certainly our crosses need to be better.

Great stuff. We beat Chelsea, Arse, Newcastle and Liverpool, then play like a bunch of arse against Villa. Lets hope we do the comeback thing again

We've had a lot of woeful performances this season but this really takes the cake. Every single person on the pitch ought to be ashamed of himself for this joke of a performance.

And what exactly IS the point of Young and Valencia?

they have 10 men playing deep its difficult to break them down

We are not going to break anyone down playing at walking pace and passing to the right hand every time, where every single cross has been closed down or been shit. Honestly can't believe how a team with the players we have at our disposal serves up the shit we have done for most of our games this season. We are top, but my god I don't know how.

Absolutely poor first half in terms of creativity.Passing the ball to Valencia as if he is some sort creative hub is pathetic is too predictable.Being led by an incredibly shit Aston Villa :wenger:

Valencia has been uninvolved until the 25th minute and then his involvement was to produce a foul throw. His attempts to find a team mate with his final ball have been nothing short of dire.

Young has been involved but terrible. About the best thing was the fact he won 2 headers that half.

Have to stop watching this one to work now, but honestly it's a relief. It's becoming almost unbearably frustrating that the only thing more reliable than the awful football is the mind-numbingly stupid team selection and formation that causes it. Anyone on this thread having a go at the players is looking in the wrong place.

Fergie has picked two very out of form wingers, one of whom is nothing special in the first place, over two very in-form, talented midfielders. He's also picked Paul Scholes over Cleverley again, despite all the evidence that the latter can now do anything the former can do, but at twice the speed.

It's so, so frustrating to go from watching the U18s, a team full of wonderful skilful, inventive, creative players who are put into a line-up and formation which allows them to express themselves and rip apart all comers, to a team whose own consignment of technical, creative players sit on the bench whilst Fergie picks the wrong-players in a hideously inappropriate, outdated formation, and we end up playing predictably shit football and being outplayed single-handedly by Steven Bloody Ireland.

Rant over. I sense that my essay on prosody and cognition is going to be an angry one.

Yep.

We're desperately lacking some imagination and creativity. Would have been nice to have Kagawa or Nani on the bench.

Our wingers have been well below par. Young is such an average footballer.

Give it to Scholes. Pass it to a winger. Poor Cross.

Repeat for 45mins.

It's so, so predictable. How can you expect to beat a defence by trying something over and over again when it isn't working?

Unlucky that is. I hate games where we play away and face 10 men behind the ball.

Next goal will be crucial. We'll push players forward and will be very vunerable on the break to pace

Right now, there is no point. People moan about Nani but at least he tries things and can unlock defences. Valencia when he can't cross is basically useless.

smalling needs to get harder. Last year against city he was man handled/out jumped for their goal off a corner.

Now he gets barged over too easily when he's bigger than benteke.

SMalling strikes me as a bit soft.

It was an atrocious performance. I've never seen a Utd team have so much possession and do so fecking little with it. We literally created nothing, at all, not a single thing.

Just got in to work and found a stream , how have we played?

Same as usual with Scholes and Carrick together in midfield- awful. So predictable with Scholes, always just pass out to Valencia, back to Rafael, to Carrick, to Scholes, and repeat. No speed or drive at all.

I wouldn't blame the wingers, they get isolated on the flanks and are expected to deliver an inch-perfect cross in a crammed box, not to mention beat the fullback and his support all by themselves. I would encourage the wingers to challenge the defenders more and ask Rafael and Evra to overlap more. Also, not overly impressed with RvP and Rooney on a level field, either one should be sitting deep.
