Barcelona 2017/18

A blessing in disguise that Neymar's release clause was triggered by PSG. Money invested nicely and has a much better team than last year.

Real has a mountain to climb now. Knowing Perez, he will spend 500 m this year
Do Real have the money to spend though? Isn't their stadium revamp costing them a fortune?

Bayern won't spend that much for sure.....will be interesting what will happen....we will have to develop in a club with a better youth development.

He will need some time, he is not a finished player yet - could turn out to be a Götze as well....:)
Exactly. I will be honest I have not seen dembele that much have seen some games he played for dortmund. Won't deny the boy has talent but he is very raw which is natural for a 20/21 year old but lot of improvement is needed. This is why I think it is very prematurish to say he will surely become the greatest or top player. My point is replacing neymar is not going to be easy.

Dembele is the eventual Messi heir and honestly think he's much better in that role than a forward one.

Yeah, a lot of things can happen - risky deal, no question. That is the good thing with all the money in the market - it ist absolutly possible that Dembele fails, which would be no unexpectable thing to happen for a 20 year old. Maybe you can buy players like that in 3 years cheap - he will be 23 then, soon Barca, Real, PSG, ManCity will be so full of talent that we can get the next Robben somewhere for a reasonable price....

With Coutinho it’s really like integrating two new signings

You're back to being box office again now. I'm sure people will be watching you guys every week now.. most exciting team to watch again now.

Havent been watching Barca much this season, what's happening with Suarez? Not in a good form I gather?

Dembele - Suarez - Messi
Coutinho - Busquets - Roberto
Alba - Umtiti - Pique - Semedo
MATS

The best XI in Europe? ;)
Barça fans are in for a shock if they think this is the way to go.
With MSN or a triangle of Messi / Xavi and Iniesta you could post these types of top heavy lineups due to the ridiculousness of your forward line.
As good as Coutinho and Demeble are, it's still watered down from what you had. You play this v City or PSG and you get destroyed. Even an on from Bayern would move that midfield around.

I don't understand how Barca have concedes so few goals this season. They look very vulnerable to counters.

Apart from Messi & the Clasico, I wouldn't say they have been the most exciting team to watch - that mantle rests with City atm. We'll see what this new iteration of Barcelona looks like once Valverde figures out the best use of his team with these key reinforcements

Suarez is the second highest scorer in La Liga and has 9 goals in his last seven matches. He’s been back to scoring consistently over the past month and a half after a rough start.

This Barca allows the least amount of shots on target in Europe so while they do get hit on the counter we are also missing Umtiti who is massive for us. Ter Stegen is worst case top 2 goalie in the world.

They’ve had better defensive games than what we’ve seen tonight (they’ve shut out Madrid at the bernebeau) but Umtiti is one of the best CB’s in the world who is out for another couple weeks and Pique is out as well who has been in very nice form lately.

Put Coutinho on LW and Paulinho for Sergi - team is much better. And no, they wouldn't be destroyed by City or PSG.

Best defense in Europe and Dembele is very new to ththe team. I’d take Barca over Bayern and PSG. PSG have a fantastic attack but terrible defense and Bayern are only getting older.

Man City would be a great matchup but it’s clear Barca are still very underrated despite being undefeated on the season.

@Daysleeper
That post I quoted altered the dynamics of the present side so much that it has little resemblance to the side that you're praising here.
Remove Paulinho who has been sensational to fit in an attacking midfielder who has shown little nous for the position when he played there for Liverpool?
Poor Busquets, I can only imagine the carnage KDB and Silva would bring.
Look at that left side and imagine a scenario that had Alba getting forward v a top side. I see no cover for him at all

I see what you’re saying.

I think Rakitic will still be nailed on and can provide backup for alba on that flank. I don’t think we will see Semedo and Roberto on at the same time, most likely one or the other. Coutinho is cup tied so he won’t play any CL matches this season.

I like what Barca are doing and I don't think they are done yet transfer wise. Once Coutinho is really integrated they will have so many formation options to choose from depending on the opponent. I really believe Neymar leaving was a blessing in disguise.

Yeah, showed lots of potential - was constantly developing. French national team will be frightening.

Lots of player look good for BVB, and then when they finally transfer to a big club they underwhelm. My gut feeling is that Dembele fails at Barca, but we'll see how he develops.

With Dembele, Coutinho, Semedo and Umtitti they've got a lot good additions in key positions.

@bond19821982
So who do you drop? Dembele? Then why buy Coutinho at all?
Well, Dembele is all about potential though. They didn't buy him to immediately deliver where as Coutinho will be asked to deliver from start.

City can play a midfield of Fernandinho, Silva and KDB (one defensive mid and two attacking mids) and everything is fine, but apparently a midfield of Busquets, Coutinho and Roberto (one defensive mid, one attacking mid, and one b2b engine) is too unbalanced to work.

Yes, City actually have a DM in that lineup.
Busquets isn't, you're taking out Paulinho who does that job for you.
It's like dropping Fernandinho and playing Sterling there.

Dembele is not all about potential, he was one of the most creative players in Europe with BvB in his second professional season. In his first 3 years as a pro, he went from Rennes, to BvB, to Barcelona for over 100M, that's more than just potential. The only major question mark over him is his mentality and that will be seriously tested at Barcelona.

I expect him to make a big impact once he gets his confidence back.

He looked pretty impressive before he signed for Dortmund and he had 2 good seasons there.
He might not be Neymar good but I seriously doubt he'll look out of place (losing the neymar drama probably wont hurt too).

He had one season at dortmund 2016/17
The season before (2015/16) he was at rennes starting In their 2nd team (3rd tier) before making it into the first team and getting 26 games in leigue 1
The season before that he was with rennes 2nd team and got 18 games again in the 3rd tier
So yeah for sure not 2 seasons at dortmund

My mistake. Really thought it was two

Busquets is arguably the best DM of the last 10 years.
