Barcelona - a lot of moaning about them and some praise

Barcelona aren't any dirtier than the average team, this was a grudge match that brought out the worst in both teams. I agree that Utd are usually amongst the most sportsmanlike teams but we have had our lapses.

What other teams dive and feign injury as much as them?

One player who doesn't mentioned enough is Arbeloa.I never thought he was that much of a thug.In the 5-0 he was making reckless tackles, he stepped on Villa on purpose and then proceeded to get him up.

True that. He's been an incredibly dirt twat in every one of the Clasico games I watched.

All Jose teams are the closest.

Porto possibly surpassed.

Madrid are bad, but not as bad as Barca.

But let's, for the sake of argument, say that whatever team Mourinho is managing at any given time is almost as bad, that's one other team. Hardly backing up the comment that Barca are 'no worse than the average team'.

Depends how you define "dirty". I can't remember any other team all season playing a game that involved such blatant theatrics as we saw the other day.

Of course, playing "dirty" involves more than just feigning injury, which is where Real Madrid also contributed to a shameful night of football.

Yes. I don't understand anyone defending either team for their actions the other night.

I also noticed he doesn't hesitate to push players when they're near the touchline.I don't think he was playing like that at Liverpool

It strange isn't it? He was fairly timid and inoffensive at Liverpool. Maybe he thinks all his PL experience means he should act the hard man now he's back in Spain?

I dislike the play acting and referee intimidation but it's not enough to significantly detract from my general admiration of Barcelona. They bring their own players through and they play wonderful football. I've always considered Barca and Utd to be similar clubs. Let's be frank, we have players who dive and players who argue with referees so lets take that into consideration.

"I THOUGHT YOU WERE FRANK?....."

Probably because he's under proper pressure at Spain of having to keep his place in the team. At Liverpool he was surrounded by dross so his place was never in question.

That's a shame but it's a testament to the man that most will only remember him for being one of the best referees in the game. To err is only human after all...

I just can't imagine the match escalating like that if a strong referee was in charge.

It annoyed me when he didn't stand his ground as he was being charged by half the Barcelona team after every decision.

Yeah he sure was a great Ref for havin respect of players. I think most folk were afraid of him tbh - those big eyes up close would make anyone brick it..

Busquets clearly says "mono" to Marcelo. For those who don't know, that means "monkey."

Class.

If that is true they should throw the book at him.

They way he is covering his mouth suggests he is saying something really bad.

One thing I don't get about racist players is when they do when they play alongside black lads themselves.
Take Pearce when he called Ince a 'black cnut' and Incey nearly took Psycho's head off, Pearce was saying it in plain view of his team-mates such as Bryan Roy, Stan Collymore, Gary Charles etc, black lads from Forest who he played with, trained with, perhaps socialised with day in, day out.
You could say it was just a tactic to intentionally rile Ince into provocation to send him off but how can anyone ethically do that or how can a black player ethically condone that from their team-mates?
Unbelievable...

is not racism per se, is the peprception those idiot have that the insulted player will feel agraviated and then he will perform badly, or do something stupid and get red carder

like in ice hockey -i saw a movie- when a player tells an opponent that last night he shagged his wife, or that he's kid with down syndrome is stupid

Looks like he's saying "momo". M and N looks very different and that is not an M.

Nah. Lips would come back together again for a second m? Plus momo doesn't mean anything?

I don't think the video is conclusive at all. But it's worth discussing and is surely worth of a proper UEFA investigation.

M looks a lot like B and P as well, so any combination of those, and I'm not sure what the vocals are. In fact, he's probably saying "yo mama!" Plus I've no clue about Spanish. It doesn't look like 'mono', though.

Actually he might be saying "bama", thus referencing this commercial, thus calling Marcelo a fruit.

I know where you're coming from buy it's still racism regardless of the intention.

If somebody called me that, may God help them!

I just didn't think my opinion of Busquets could go lower, final whistle hopefully one of our players does him.

busquets must be the dirtiest, cuntiest, hatest player i've ever seen

i also think he has a racist side, else, he wouldnt do what he did to Marcelo, but i think that his purpose is not to show marcelo that he is a racist but to take him out of the game

Exactly what I thought, doesn't look like "mono" at all, hence I was asking who was the expert lip reader behind that conclusion.

If it was, it's serious, and I have some difficulty accepting such behaviour in players who have team-mates of all nationalities and are probably nurtured playing in a multi-cultured game since a young age. Are they really like that or is it a cheap and dumb strategy to annoy opponents? Are they (albeit certainly in a more moderated manner) racist as well towards their black team mates? How's the environment in the locker room?

Do you recall the fury when Keane et al chased D'Urso around the pitch about ten years ago? The press launched a massive attack on the club and United were fined I believed. Since then, United players have argued with the ref but not an all out mob attack. The club learnt its lesson ASAP.

Nothing happens to Barca (or Real) in their respective leagues or Europe. If this had been United, Platini would have called for an immediate ruling.

Christ footballers can be childish can't they? Guess that's what happens when you're stuck in your own little bubble and have no context of the real world!

Actually, that's quite real world where people argue or cheat or whatever and get 'deleted' from FB or twitter. It's the norm these days. It's as if using the online tool is the ultimate 'F U.' You were deleted. Ouch.

United chased D'Urso around the pitch after that incident. It was quite nasty. I really thought it was about to boil over.

And I didn't say other clubs don't do this. But I believe United were fined for the D'Urso incident.

Your first and second United picks are not a mob riot in anything remotely similar to the D'Urso incident.

 at the ref having Stam and Keano one meter away yelling:D

 Slapshot isn't really indicative of the NHL.

It does happen in the NHL though, everything except talk about kids is considered fair game. The other week Flyers players complained about a Buffalo player that had mentioned their divorces in a mocking way hehe.

well, when you said that nothing happens to barca or real "in their respective leagues or Europe" you made it sound like something happens to the english teams in the FA

and bar that incident, we have seen quite a few ref bullying after that that has gone unpunished

Major League when Berenger asks the hitter, "How's your wife and my kids?"

That's stolen from cricket.

Rod Marsh to Beefy 'How's your wife and my kids?'

Ian Botham, 'The wife's fine – the kids are retarded'.
