Apparently Eikrem's with his family in Norway after picking up a small injury.

I can't see Anderson playing though, he has been the 2nd best performer in MF this season behind Fletch so I wouldn't risk him getting injured in the Carling Cup. I'd let Carrick get some more minutes behind him though as his form still hasn't been up to the Carrick we know.

Obertan's Debut, eh ? Can't wait. Go for it lad.

If Oberton plays a blinder, what is the realistic cahnces of him getting in the main squad.

he doesnt need to .
i expect him to be involved in the near future as long as he doesnt have a stinker .

injured obertan picked ahead of tosic shows that fergie rates him .. we need wingers ...
fergie even tried welbeck wide .. obertan has a good chance .. hope he takes it

Matt James (no.43) and Joe Dudgeon (no.44) both been given PL squad numbers so could be involved tonight at some point

ben hibbs. .

high hopes for matty james , havent seen enough of dudgeon .. been at the club since he was 8(?) saw the interview before the last reserves game . LB.. but with fabio and delaet in the squad , wonder if he will get a chance .

still excited to see the kids get a chance ..

I understand what you sy about Oberton but i hope he takes his chance as we need a decent winger and at the moment the guys we got aint cutting it.

I too have very high hopes for James, not had the freedom he had last season mainly due to the sparkling form of Eikrem, so he's more of a covering midfielder this season.

Dudgeon, as i said in another thread, is the main reason Fabio has been playing right back in the reserves. He looks very promising, but may turn out to be another Eckersley.

To hear all this about our reserve players shows that our squad is just great.

Don't think Transformers are allowed to play football.

Disagree there, Welbeck is ahead of Macheda imo. kikos all round game is still relatively weak. Danny has a better head of his shoulders at the moment aswell.

I beg to differ and it's actually been quite amazing to see how this myth has slowly gained acceptance among the people of the caf. Watching him step up to the reserves last season, the one thing that gave me hope that this guy might be the real deal was how well rounded his game was. Naturally he'd mainly do the things he does best (lead the line, put it in the back of the net), but if he wasn't getting the necessary service, he'd go wide or drop deep to good effect. Some of the runs he went on and some of the defense-splitting balls he played were absolutely genius and even though, much like Welbeck, he's yet to display his full range at first team level, his game at the moment is more complete than the more direct King's. Hopefully we'll get to see all 3 of them tonight.

I just hope Macheda - if he does play - can carry over the form he showed in his last reserves game, when he was absolutely superb IMO.

In all his previous outings I've seen this season (for reserves and, briefly, the first team) he hasn't looked on his game at all. It was a big relief to be reminded of what he can do (can't for the life of me remember who we were playing)

Everton. I agree completely.

Absolutely agree, and it is a myth which has somehow circulated enough to become fact in some people's minds. His all round game is very good, he even proved that in front of everyone against Villa in the league last season and against Everton in the FA Cup semi but still this misconception persists.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

Foster
Neville Brown Evans Fabio
Obertan Fletcher Carrick Nani
Macheda Welbeck
--
Kuszczak; Rafael, De Laet; Gibson, Scholes, Tosic; Owen

I'd be pretty sure that the ideal substitutions would be: Scholes on for Carrick, Gibson on for Fletcher, and Owen on for Obertan - with Welbeck finishing the game on the wing. Or osmething along those lines.

Obertan :) I totally forgot this is on Sky tonight, nice surprise.

Starting 11

---------Kuszczak
Neville Brown Evans Fabio
Obertan Fletcher Anderson Nani
-------Owen Welbeck

Subs
Foster
Rafael
De Laet
Gibson
Tosic
Macheda
King

I would go with something like this. A fairly strong team to start with, then we will make changes in the second half.

I get much more excited about watching this sort of game - where youngsters get the chance to strut their stuff - than I do about the majority of our league and CL games.

Does that make me an FM muppet? (not that I've ever played the game)

Or worse, a gooner?
