Bayern München v Manchester United

3 even halves so far, let's see what happens in the 4th. Two very important things here -
1. We keep all our 11 players on the pitch
2. We attack their central defenders.
This United reminds me of the one that beat Rijkaard's Barca, but without the Scholes.

Not a great performance from Bayern or a good set up by us?

A mix of both. They are playing it around our box but cannot thread a pass nor hit the target with a shot.

We are a bit sloppy in possession, unfortunately.

Both. We've been stubborn. They've looked short of ideas, other that seeing what Robben's left foot can do.

Vidic booked for heading the ball. Clear bookable offence foul on Evra waved as play on when he was standing not 10 yards from it and Welbeck having to stand on the side of the pitch for two minutes because the referee forgot about him. Not great officiating so far.

Highlights showing just how sparse were there serious attempts on goal. What happened to Guardiola?

Sky are talking like we're bossing the game. I don't like this narrative that a solid defensive display against a good team is a great performance/achievement. It's half a great performance, at one end, we still need to score, and we can't keep the ball.

I'm not sure if I'd agree that we're the happiest of the two teams. 0-0 would put Bayern through and neither side is really looking that threatening.

Terrible ref performance. In danger of deciding this tie. Should have had maybe 3 free kicks around the box, which would probably be our biggest threat. Looked ok at times, Evra and Jones need to get their passing right and Kagawa needs to work to get on the ball more as he's our main play maker, tough with the amount of work he has to do on the left though. Would just be nice to see Welbeck getting back on the left more and getting Kags on the ball more in the middle as a result.

Rooney having a good game I think and Smalling choice looks like a good decision too. Fletch been poor on the ball a bit out of character at times

If we can keep it like this and then throw Januzaj and Hernandez on then we can't have many complaints at how we've approached this tie.

Around 70 mins bring Januzaj on for Fletch/Carrick and go for it.

Can't see United scoring. Can't see Bayern not scoring.

We'll nick this then...

Really nothing to do with a big game. He just has done basically nothing since coming to Bayern. Doesn't look like Pep has improved him in any way since he went to Bayern despite that being his main reason why he wanted to go to Bayern, well at least he said that.

It's quite interesting that most of Klopps former players all seemed to be much better when they were still playing under him.
Hasn't he got numbers almost as good as hazard and over 10 goals this season or something?

They're not even playing with a RB, so hopefully Januzaj comes on around 60/65 and goes on the left. Pity Valencia cant play on the left.

I expected us to get smashed in these 2 games and the fact that it feels good to have avoided a roasting kind of shows how poor we have been this season and how my expectations have dived. Its good on one hand to have held Bayern out but a couple of seasons ago I would have expected us to be giving them a fright.

Exactly  Half the pundits seem to have forgotten that we go out if it finishes 0-0!
Keeping it at 0-0 and losing on away goals to these is pretty commendable to be fair. With the pre-tie expectations you can see why everyone's praising the situation as it is whilst ignoring the actual result as things stand.

Bayern have looked a little desperate in their shooting.

I know it's playing a risky game but if it's still 0-0 at 70 mins the pressure will grow on them!

Also Rooney doesn't look right. Can't believe how hesitant he was with that chance. People have cavani a terrible time for missing that chance against Chelsea. Rooneys wasn't much better, at least cavani took a swing at it!

I'd love to know the amount of touches Carrick has had, because i could probably count it on one hand. Fletch has been involved but he keeps giving the ball away, but atleast he's involved - Carrick has no excuses for that shit 1st half. He isnt even trying to get on the ball. Fletch fecks up, but he's back on it again. Carrick is invisible...

I think he is defending more than he is on the ball. I don't fault him.

Really, I'm happy for us to keep going like this for another 25 mins and then go for it.

Yea, but we could at least break much better on the counter. Our counters are not going through to our forwards. We did much better in this regard in the first leg. Most of our players seems content to hoofing it forward without looking up first.

Agree.

Got a feeling it'll finish 1-0 or 0-0. We'll get all the headlines for being brave and heroic and JTesque but at the end of the day we'll be out.
Definitely. We've had one or two decent chances, but in the end Bayern will have too much for us. We're just not creating enough.

It's probably the best approach we can take against such a strong team atm but yeah we need to produce something or we will go out. Hope Moyes has a plan in store how he wants to get that goal in the second half.

There's no way it'll end up 0-0. Come the 70th minute if it's still level we will go for it. We'll either score or concede.

I think he'll see red at some point.

Especially if we get to extra time. Ridiculous decision to give that booking.

Fine so far.

If it stays this score Bayern will start to get nervous. Hopefully we can sucker punch them then.

The key thing from Moyes' point of view will be deciding when and how to step things up and go for the goal.

Can't have any complaints at our approach so far though.

It's all very well saying we expected to get smashed in the UCL so losing won't be that bad, but if we don't go through to the semis, I'd have to say I'd be extremely disappointed not to win as Bayern have been poor and we've been pretty decent. Especially in the first leg where we should have won.
