Well yes and no.

Writing players off an the basis of watching them once or twice in the reserves is a bit of given in these forums.

Drogba was never a joke in his first season. Chelsea bought a player whose goals helped his side to UEFA cup final.May have had to adjust and learn but he was always a goalscorer
always a goal scorer?

That Uefa Cup season was his first real good goal scoring season, he was barely a goal scorer at all prior to that. In total I would say he had two good seasons before signing for chelsea.

He was a joke in his first season at Chelsea, he missed bag fulls of easy chances and was a duffer for large parts of the season. Chelsea fans wanted him gone. He had a decent goal return cause chelsea steamrolled the league and created a million chances for him, had he been half the player he is now he'd have hammered in at least twice as many goals.

He developed and turned it around massively, but in his first season he certainly looked like a poor buy.

I will be the first one to admit that this signing was utterly bizarre. But some of the comments in this thread are down right ridiculous.

After just 2 cameo appearances Bebe is already being labeled a flop? Seriously? Come on now people.

The only ones that truly no if we've dropped a bollock or not are the manager and the coaching staff.

Drogba in his first season was awful. Only got away because of his physique. Although, one could mention that psychologically he wasn't prepared to be there, as a mitigating factor

20 in 45 for Guingamp
19 in 35 for Marseilles

16 in 40 for XChelsea in his 1st season after he had missed 2 months with injury. That's a goalscorer for me.

Always a goal scorer though? What were his tallies prior to his second season at Guingamp, inclusive of a good lot of time in the second division?

16 in 40 for chelsea, good return AS I SAID, very poor chance conversion. Had he been the drogba we see today, or half that player, he'd have easily doubled that tally.

Specious argument.

I thought this was about Bebe anyway

I hope you're on a wind up, Gaffs. Or else I hope you spill coffee over your keyboard resulting in your spacebar, a and r not working.

Who missed twenty chances before scoring a goal, fell over like a feather and seem to sometimes have the touch of an elephant.

I'm not saying I'm just saying that he was a different player. But you couldn't tell that he would be as good as he is today, unless you'd seen him prior. Because it takes time in a new country.

How long did Malouda take to become this brilliant player we're seeing now? He looked rubbish until last season.

Well i for one agree with Idiot#138; anyone who can't see a player play for 15mins total over two games and know then exactly how good they are and how their career will pan out needs their fecking crystal ball checking!

Is that a fact? Even if it is why do you assume it's all part of some great swindle at the expense of utd, Queiroz basically acted as a scout so he would be within his rights to profit from the deal.

Scouts don't take percentages of deals.

I seriously doubt Queroz was paid a chunk of the fee.

What I don't doubt is that this deal has attracted all sorts of dafts conspiracy theories from the moment it was first announced and will continue to do so for a long time.

This is only a slight variant on all the bollox on redissue linking the deal to Fergie speaking on Queroz' behalf at his recent hearing.

Partly because I don't believe any old rumour I read on the internet but mainly because that's not the way transfers work.

There's also the fact that if Fergie was somehow determined to give his old mate a back-hander he couldn't choose to link it to a transfer that would attract more scrutiny if he tried, not least because he admitted to the press he'd never even seen the player. Why do that if there was anything untoward involved?

Nah, I'm calling bollocks on this one. Sorry.

Quieroz is not his agent and had no rights over him contractually so why on earth would we give him any money for reccomending him to us.

Quieroz is obviously still on good terms with Ferguson and has no club and felt this player had the materials to make it as did Ferguson's scout's so he obviously either got in touch with Ferguson to tip him off or maybe he came up in conversation.

I see no reason why you think Quieroz would have expected any money.

I didn't know he lives with Anderson. Portuguese press were saying he was going to Anderson's house to watch Guimarães - Porto tonight (serious news, I don't know how this isn't being mentioned here), both players former clubs, but apparently he lives there.

Bebe tips Vitoria to beat FC Porto

All I can say is my mate, who I have known for years, is a Partner at the law firm that did the deal and does all of United's, and other NorthWest clubs, deals.

I shouldn't have even bothered mentioning it because....

a) No one will believe it anyway.
b) Because it could get him in the shit

For those reasons, I would appreciate it if a mod deleted all posts I have made relating to this.

You can do that yourself. Just edit the posts and delete.

gaffs if any post could get your mate on the shit would be that last one where you actually say where he works and are concerned that it can get him into shit.

I'm not convinced Queroz would need the money and even if he did, I don't believe he would have us sign a lad who he didn't think could be a great player. At it turns out, it was our agent in Portugal that spotted him and there is nothing to suggest otherwise though it will probably be a 'rumor' in the papers in a few weeks

Just wanted to point out there that its not just BS.

Anyway, would be appreciated if the mods can delete any posts relating to this - especially the ones with a reply to my post.

I haven't been following this thread recently, but my impression from Bebe's two brief cameos for the club has been that he looks like he can be a pretty dangerous, driving and direct winger. I'm seeing so much negativity here though, have other people read something else into his game that i've missed? Surely it's far, far too soon to tell either way, but his 15mins for us went ok, didn't it?

Is he still here?

I'm surprised we haven't shipped him off to a club like Hull by now.

I assume you're just trolling?

Seriously though; some posters seem to be 100% certain that he's going to fail; where does this conviction come from? Can anyone give a valid reason for writing him off so early? I've heard a few say how shit he is and that he'll never make it as a United player, but what are the grounds for such negativity towards him?

FM influence mainly Cider. Alot of muppets are still hurt by the disappointment of not getting Ozil, VdV etc, that they're taking SAF'S 'value' comments and linking Bebe who cost £7m to the abovementioned players.

To compound matters, VdV has scored a couple of goals, while we struggled at Sunderland - I mean how dare Bebe not rack up 3 goals, an assist + an own goal (for entertainment value) in his brief 7min cameo?

I agree with you that the signs have been slightly encouraging, albeit brief. Alot of work to do but the talent is evident. Just extremely raw, but evident. Lets hope the staff can help cut and polish a diamond from the rough.

FIFA 11 came out this last week and I think Bebe's overall rating was something like 69 which isn't great.

Honestly. I think this is where people are getting it from.

To be fair though, i loved Tino Asprilla on Prem Manager on the Megadrive; him, Matt Le'Tissier, Chris Sutton, John Barnes and Teddy Sheringham were the absolute bee's bollocks on that game!

Ye it looks like this lad has some mad skills basically, street ball styleee - I'm pretty sure he doesnt have a clue tactically though so lets see how quickly he learns.
Bebe is basically the third in a very similar line of player - Ronaldo, Nani and now YoungPortugeseLadNo3 - with Valencia out (and Giggs for a bit?), there is now an opening on the wing so he should get more gametime than Fergie originally planned.

Yea. Looking like a real potential. Good balance and speed.

Fpr a 20 year old you'd be expecting abit more finish. Does have a look of quality about him imo. Has the build of a Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima First time I've seen him and didn't know what to expect.
