Benfica vs Manchester United.

what would you have a keeper do at that situation?
The exact same thing, doesn't change the fact he got lucky with those saves.

I hope that in the long term this win doesnt do us harm rather than good. Yes I want the points, but will it encourage saf to make the boys play in a weirdo formation that fecks us over so badly every time we try it?

2nd half much better, although there still the passing to work on.

Just reading the comments throughout the match ...there are so many wankers on this sight. They haven't a clue about football or its tactics. Sure we were crap in the first half but we weathered the storm scored a goal and never looked back. Perfect away football in Europe ...whats wrong with that?

Untidy first half, great professional performance second half. Commentators and muppets may slag Rooney but he did a great job for the team. Compare and contrast Rooney tonight with Richardson on Saturday. Richardson was as idle as it's possible to be, Rooney despite being out on the left worked his socks off for the team.

Ronny was a threat throughout, Saha took his goal well after an average first half. Scholesy was Scholesy. Defence was mostly excellent.

Benfica are a decent side and a great club. 1-0 away is an excellent result. Some people will moan at anything!

There was no width to the side tonight and it really showed with some errant passes to the wings with no player there. It's too bad that Giggs wasn't in there as his pace, skill and ability to hold the ball would have made a big difference.

only saw the last 30 minutes of the match so I can't really comment on it. From the comments here and the analysis on TV, it sounds like we were poor before we scored.
I'll take the 3 points and hope there are better performances later.

It sounds like we tried to play 4-3-3 because SAF does not trust 4-4-2 with Scholes and Carrick in the middle.
Obviously 4-3-3 does not suit Rooney, but I would still expect him to be more focused than he seemed tonight. I don't know, maybe there's something personal going on with Rooney behind the scenes.

We all know we're short of a proper DM player. That's why I'm not expecting too much from this CL campaign. I hope we can get as far as possible so we can keep our seeded status. But I can't see us coming anywhere near winning it if we can't play 4-4-2 without having a weak central midfield.

One thing that could see us through against most teams is the strength of our backline when they are all fit. Vidic and Heinze really make us look more solid. We will probably come up short against a really good side though. I would not fancy us against Lyon for example. Although if Rooney gets his act together and Ronaldo stays focused then anything is possible I guess.

Just wanted to say how great it is to see Heinze getting back to the player we all remember, not to mention the return of Smudge :D Can't wait to see him back at OT. Rooney will be back with us fully soon. I know he wasn't his usual self but he never let his head drop, so many players could easily have done, but if/when he gave the ball away, or had a bad 1st touch .. he tried again and never gave up.
Full commendations to Ronny's display once again :D .. well done for not losing his temper and laughing off the ref's antics.

We go to 4-3-3 because we got no fecking winger left apart from Ronaldo
