Benitez to Chelsea Discussion & Sack watch

Roman's probably got steam coming out of his ears right about now. He'll be ordering the tumbril for Rafa before season's end.

Long may Rafa's reign last but I feel a sacking is imminent.

I love this. Serves them right.

Well it's one of the few ways they can may get a chance to qualify for the Champions League. Destroy Chelsea from within.

Well if spurs win, they will be level on points with chelsea. Would be lovely if they finish outside top 4. Arsenal and spurs please

I had a debate with a poster here a few weeks ago about Chelsea (before we played them at Stamford Bridge) and their annual autumnal brainfart. He was adamant that they wouldn't fall to pieces this season as they had "new players" and these new players couldn't be tarnished with the same brush as previous Chelsea squads.

It's such an indictment about Abramovich's handling of that club that you just knew they'd find a way to feck it up this season as well. It was always on the cards.

Their league success in 2010 still galls, one of the most undeserving champions in recent memory. I fecking hate them and I hope Benitez is left there long enough to see them rot.

IN RAFA WE RUST

how much do they miss Lampard.

They have issues all over the pitch.

How many of their current squad would have got into the Chelsea team under Mourinho? Mata is only one I reckon. If I had to choose one player I think they miss most I'd go for Drogba.

Lampard, Drogba...and yes Big Man in his days.

Cole is fading.

The players who made the difference were the ones who actually played for the club...not just the money.

but I am delighted about the humiliation after what they did to Clattenberg.

that is a good point. Terry, Drogba, Lampard, and a few others do love the club. You wonder about some of the recent buys.

Sacking Di Matteo wasn't really that bad IMO, he doesn't strike me as a great manager. The big feck up Roman made was sacking Ancelotti. That was actually mental.

True, but what about sacking Jose? That was mental beyond belief.

I think sacking Di Matteo during season considering how he's done since he became the manager is mental. At least, he could have waited to the end of the season.

And then replacing him with Benitez who the fans hate and the players probably don't respect is even more mental.

A nice Spanish phrase, to prove how educational football is - a couple of the TV commentators were joking about whether Benitez, "se come el turrón," again this year. Literally that means eating a kind of nougat that's popular in Spain at Christmas, figuratively it means (usually a football manager) having no job by Christmas.

Maybe someone will teach Shreeves the phrase and he can ask Rafa to explain.

Yeah Benitez was a strange choice, but he is obviously not seen as the longterm appointment, he's just interim manager and pretty sure the contract is only till the end of the season.

Disagree on Di Matteo, although I wouldn't have offered him the job at the end of last season. You can tell Abramovich didn't want to either, fluking the CL kind of forced his hand but even then it took him a while to offer a contract.

10 points behind us - interesting start to life at Chelsea for him.

Rafa Benitez: not exactly popular with Chelsea fans ~

Di Matteo would never be hired again if FSW got sacked. As much as I would like it, it would be like RA saying to him 'Look Roberto, we've been having a few bad results so I want you to take a two week break. We'll hire the equivalent of Saddam Hussein to see if he can get Torres scoring and if not you can come back.'

Don't get me wrong, I am finding this fecking hilarious, however, I do feel a bit sorry for the genuine life long Chelsea fans. The one's that have supported the club long before Roman came along and turned it into one big circus.

We have got a couple of Chelsea fans in the newbie section and they're pretty pissed off with the way Chelsea is being run, one of them was happy to go back to the Pre-Abramovich era whilst the other one refused to go to Stamford Bridge, I think you will find the Liverpool fans are more sympathetic towards Rafa than his own fans are.

Spanish equivalent of an Advent calendar - he eats all the choccies and gets binned on Xmas day.

Chelsea never really recovered from that, did they?

Jose doesn't seem the type to build an affinity with a club, but he knows how to build the foundations, which have served Chelsea well (albeit Ranieri did most of the legwork). Ancelotti tried the diamond midfield in his first few league matches before realising the tried and tested was more effective.

Point is, which manager will be allowed to build the next team?
