Berbatov | Fulham player

Would it not also be harsh to leave out last weekend's match winner?

or are we dropping Rooney?

Would not be harsh to drop anyone just because they happened to get the winner the game before if the rest of the game they were so-so - which in Chicha's case last week he was.

I doubt Berba will start tomorrow but, it definitely wouldn't be harsh on Chicha.

I don't think it would be harsh on Hernandez.

He grabbed a goal but his performance wasn't great.

On the flipside Sharky, just because you replace a player who is scoring lots of goals/scoring more goals than the player who replaces him, doesn't mean you won't score more goals overall. We replaced van Nistelrooy in the team with Saha, and though Louis scored about half the goals Ruud did, we scored more overall. I'm not necessarily saying this applies to Hernández and A.N. Other striker yet, but it's important to remember.

Of course. My point wasn't "what is better for the team", just that posters were saying it would be harsh to drop Berba whilst forgetting that it would of course also be harsh to drop last weeks match winner.

"Harsh" doesn't come into it for me in this situation, neither could argue if they are on the bench considering what the other has done in his last game, it's all about what SAF thinks is better for the team today.

Hopefully Berba will play against his boyhood club today (according to FM that's the case).

Oh come on! When Berbatov was 10 Newcastle were in the bottom half of the (then) second division with Mick Quinn banging in the goals! No way were they were his "boyhood club".

He might have liked them in the Keegan/Shearer era but he was knocking on for 16 then!

Are you accusing Berba of being a glory Newcastle fan?

He was probably asked in an interview once "what players did you like watching when you were younger?" and said "Shearer".

If he was a fan of Newcastle United in Bulgaria in the late 80s i'll eat a lifesize carboard cut out of Mick Quinn.

When we eventually let him go he should move up there, they'd adore him.

Chicharito keeps scoring important goals, yet I don't feel he has been very good this season. Decision making and touch in the final third has been off, hasn't linked up as well as I'd hoped and overall just looks a litte less of a nuisance to defenders this year. At the same time, he gets us winning goals all the time.

Not really sure who I want to be partnering Rooney in the games coming up. I feel Berbatov adds more to our game, but he obviously scores less.

I think we should play Rooney with Berbatov and bring on Hernandez as an impact player i.e supersub. That way Berbatov will create chances for Rooney and likewise Rooney will pick out this strike partner.

Hernandez is having a typical second season syndrome, hopefully we get our full compliment of strikers firing on all cylinders because we missed the opportunity to close the gap on the leaders.

You make it sound like the Berba-Rooney partnership is a match made in heaven, something the past 3 years have proven it isn't.

:eek::eek:

wtf. No he isn't, he scored our only goals in our last 2 league games and had it not been for the complete heroics of Simpson or a small touch from Carrick then he would've been our match winner again at the weekend.

If anything, Berba should be getting into the team ahead of Rooney, but that aint gonna happen.

I agree. People are criticising Hernandez but... er... isn't he scoring the goals getting us all the points at the moment? People sometimes forget that the whole fecking point of football is to stick the ball in the back of the net, and I'd rather have someone perhaps not linking up brilliantly scoring goals than someone linking up brilliantly but not scoring goals. The best link-up play in the world that doesn't lead to a goal doesn't win us any points, and we need points to catch City, obviously. Link-up play is important, I just think we need to get our priorities straight, we need points atm.

Very bizarre comment.

He has 5 or 6 goals all crucial. I am liking his 2nd season syndrome

I wanna see Berbatov and Rooney start together.

Rooney as the top striker with Berbatov just behind.

Time for Rooney to get some headers.

Rooney gets frustrated at times on his own up top and so goes searching for the ball. Berba up top is better as he will play more disciplined.

SOFIA, Nov 28 (Reuters)

Bulgaria's flamboyant prime minister Boiko Borisov is in the running to be named the country's soccer player of the year after Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov got bored of winning.

Borisov sometimes plays as a striker for third division team Vitosha Bistritsa, nicknamed the Tigers, and comfortably leads the fans' poll with more than 2,000 votes.

"There's no way for me to admit I'm a poor player," Borisov, 52, told private broadcaster bTV. "The Tigers are a great team."

It is the first time the Bulgarian Football Union has allowed soccer fans to participate in the poll. They will nominate the top 20 while sports journalists will have the final vote.

Berbatov, Bulgaria's leading scorer with 48 international goals, is second with less than 1,500 votes but has urged journalists to stop voting for him having won the award for a record seventh time last December.

In addition to being a prolific soccer striker as he often boasts himself, Prime Minister Borisov is a black belt in karate and an avid tennis player.

I think very little rest (thanks Gold Cup) with a concussion has hurt him this season. He has been getting goals but they have been odd ones: i.e. just getting hit in the chest with a ball for a goal.

He's had a few looks that he would of put away last season. Still have faith in him, but this season has been poorer so far.

His finishing hasnt been as lethal that's for sure. Still and yet, in terms of overall play, I think he'll have a better season. His game against Newcastle showed signs of that.

What i was saying is that we need to get Wellbeck, Macheda, Berbatov and Owen back fit and ready to support our main strikers Rooney and Hernandez.

Also we must look at the pairing of Rooney and Berbatov in different scenarios.

All our strikers bring something different to the team and so we should maximise this option.

Berbatov was fourth in the pecking order.

Welbeck should be back now, Macheda is fit again.

It won't cost us as much as you think. And he won't be out for long.

I dont think the injury is bad - a couple of weeks - ankle twinge. Hopefully he is back soon. I could understand his frustration today with some of the idiotic runs.

How bad is Berba's injury? Anyone if he is back in training? I was expecting to see him on the bench today.

In presser SAF had said that if he trains on Friday, he may be involved. Guessing he didn't train on Friday or if he did then wasn't deemed fit enough. Either way, he must be close if we are to believe SAF.
