Berbatov | Fulham player

I'm hearing it's £4.5m? Joke of a feee.

He is aging and has a year left on his contract after not playing much at all last year. That and the fact that we have four other strikers who are preferred to him so it's not that bad. He is worth more than £4.5m obviously but it's a close to fair valuation given the circumstances.

Well if we didnt activate his extra year it would have been zero.

For the sheer lack of interest in the player I think it is the most we could have expected.

What we needed was the likes of PSG or Some Russian club to go for him. That never happened.

What are you basing that on?

There's probably been plenty of interest, with the sticking point being his wages and the fact he's available on a free next summer.

Having read some of Elezi's posts I sorta wanna apologize to Ekeke.Elezi is the true Berba hater.I don't understand how can a player who's done his best at Man United despite not being a good fit in terms of playing style, didn't whine too much when left on the bench can generate so much negativity.
Even if it didn't work out as well I (and many other fans) would have wanted it, I'm happy to have seen him under a United shirt.Special mention to his great season as a top goalscorer (a season he got criticized for not spreading his goals :wenger: ).
I guess deep down despite not liking this player, knowing he played a significant role in United's historical league win can be painful for some odd people

No, I am not a hater. Only that I think that Berbatov was never our quality and hearing from some people here you think that he was the best ever.

I also said that he played a role (leading our attack) in 2010-2011. With Rooney injured and off from in the first half of the season, and with Chicha still in transition Berbatov was our second best attacking player (after Nani) in that first half. Without him we wouldn't have won that 19 title.

About not spreading his goals is a valid point cause scoring hat tricks (or 5 goals in a game) but then not scoring in 10 goals, then score another hat trick and then don't score in many other games is not a good thing, and best players do not do that.

In case you have read my posts I said that he was very professional, one of the most professional players I have ever seen.

Anyway, I always thought that Tevez was a much superior player than him (thought one of the biggest cnuts), and Welbeck and Chicha are better for us than him. Of course that's my opinion and I am not asking anyone to think like me.

For a paltry £4m would it not be better to keep him, especially now that Rooney is out for a couple of months and we all know RVP's track record on keeping fit.

Keep a player on around £5m a year as a fifth choice striker? RVP hasn't had any injury problems for 2 years.

Even then we have hernandez and welbeck, not to mention kagawa.

If dire needs are necessary we can play young as 2nd striker too.

Berbatov unfortunately needs to move on.

I like how people are bringing up the absolutely pointless argument that he "didnt spread his goals" again when it has been pointed out time and time again that his goals easily earned us more points than goals from any other player that season...

I cba to find those stats again but its been done several times. The "he didnt spread his goals so his contribution wasnt actually that great" "argument" is utter tripe.

Our squad is now ugly again.

I don't quite agree. Sure Berba has this rare rough handsomeness, but his hairline is quickly receding, so I think it's the right time to sell him.

Also Shinji is very cute, and RvP while he has a square head looks very clean.

Let's not forget about Powell  as well.

All in all I don't think our squad is uglier this season, in fact I think we're better off, but we definitely did lose on the swagger front.

really? for someone with a year left on his cotnract, getting 100k+ per week?

If he stays until June 2013 that's roughly 40 weeks x 100k - that's 4 mil in wages. So if he goes we will better of for around 8,5 mil. I'd take that.

Has it actually cost us more than that to keep him for the extra year? I'm presuming we, as the ones selling him, will have to pay him up on the contract extension he signed in March.

Well there's £5m straight away. Add to that the wage we paid him from last summer until the contract extension, and that's probably another £3-4m. If we get £5m for him now, we don't even cover his wages since last summer.

By some accounts PSG were ready to offer £12m for him last summer, and SAF turned it down. If that is true, we have potentially lost £6m in fee differential, plus whatever we have paid him in wages since then. So on that basis it has cost us about £10m to keep him since last summer. We will only recoup half of that.

Money well spent eh? Bizarre logic! :wenger:

Im thrilled I got to see his amazing hattrick against Liverpool live which included his under appreciated overhead kick.

Berba :(

Remember this?

(Yes it is a GIF but it adds to the discussion and it is football related)

Berba the gawd!
This was one of the finest things I ever saw on a pitch, Absolutely sublime.

Really wish he was given more of a chance but that is how these things pan out and he deserves 1st team football so best to let him go.

Shame it never really worked out for him, I'll miss him plucking the ball out of the air like a nonchalant sexual tyrannosaurus, and I wish him well on the football fields and in the ambassadorial receptions of Italy.
