Berbatov | Fulham player

Berbatov had a lot of matches where he scored a lot of goals that season which meant that were many games where he didn't score at all.

Dimitar Berbatov's arrival at Fulham fires sense of style and adventure

Brilliant article. This part in particular gave me a chuckle

One story from his time at Tottenham sums up the ability and the attitude. Jamie O'Hara, who is now at Wolves, remembers Berbatov being in possession, with his back to him, about 40 yards away. "I was yelling for the ball," O'Hara said. "Berba dropped his shoulder and, without looking, he played a pinpoint pass right to my feet. After training, he said to me: 'I know where you are. You don't have to shout.'"

that article sums it up...he's like ben foster, who said he enjoyed his football more at brum than here because the world didn't end when brum lost like it did when utd had a bad performance.

berbatoss is like foster it seems and needs an environment like that to be confident. His demeanor suits teams where he can be himself and there is no pressure to perform week in week out so he's able to be comfortable in his element.

A classic big fish, small pond player if there was ever one.

Who is this berbatoss, you talking about, FutsalGizzard, mate?

Probably because he either didn't play in them at all or just got the odd 5 or 10 mins on the pitch.

He really meant Berbasex but wanted it to sound that little bit more orgasmic.

hmmm....

Started the following games without scoring:

Fulham (a)
Bolton (a)
WBA (h)
Stoke City (a)
Spurs (h)
City (a)
Villa (a)
WBA (a)
Stoke City (h)
Spurs (a)
Villa (h)
Wolves (a)
Liverpool (a)
Blackpool (h)

So yeah "probably because he either didn't play in them at all or just got the odd 5 or 10 mins on the pitch."

How many games did he start in total? Scoring in around half your games isn't a bad record.

During 2010-2011 season Berba scored goals in 11 matches. Not a very good record considering that he played in 42 games.

Honestly who, at this point, gives a flying feck? He scored a hat-trick (one of several, IIRC) to win us the game at Anfield, and five goals against Blackburn. Is that really going to be made into a bad thing now?

The bad thing is that he didn't scored consistently.

The hat trick against Pool will be remembered as one of the best display a United player has ever done. And that is fully correct.

Just skipped through the thread pages from around summer. feck me, Revan really was clueless about Berbs back then. Also VoetbalWizard with his 'If we sell him, it's our first trophy' classic. Should we make a trophy parade?

make it an open top one along deansgate :D, we've already done better trophy wise this year than last.

We wouldn't have had one three years ago either, had it not been for Berba

Had Berba not played that early part of the season then Hernandez would, and considering how well he did from January on, who knows what he would've done had he taken Berba's place sooner.

We'd have probably wrapped the league up by February ;)

I am one of the biggest critics of him in these forum (as Simon, Erica and everybody else can tell) but he did played a part in our success that season. And while I think that Chicha is brilliant and a better player than Berba, but in that half season I doubt that he could have done a better job because he had just arrived.

While I think that Berba wasn't even in out top 5 players in that season (including other competitions too), I also think that without him we wouldn't have won Premier League.

Saying that, I am pretty sure that with those money we could have signed a better striker but that is entirely for an another debate.

And I completely agree.

I just disagree that anyone can say "without him we wouldn't have won the league". He wasn't Ronaldo good and none of us know how Hernandez would've done, in his sub appearances he was sensational from the get go.

Without him I mean, considering only the players we had.

If we had signed Aguero or Villa in place of him then most surely we would have won. But I don't think that Hernandez would have played as good in first half of season as he played in the second because he had just arrived.

Think! And that's my point, none of us know, you're simply guessing.

Judging from his sub appearances and the starts that he got, Hernandez was ready from the get-go. None of us know though.

Berba played his part of course, a big part, but to say "we wouldn't have won the league without him", well I'm not sure that's the case.

By that same logic, considering only the games of last season if Berba would have played more we would have win the title.

feck me, I cannot believe that I am defending Berbatov.

Who knows. Probably Bebe would have scored 40.

Well not really but consider this....

Had we won the league last year, had Aguero not scored that goal.... would you say to anyone, "we wouldn't have won the league in 2011-2012 if it wasn't for Welbeck".

I wouldn't.

No, I wouldn't.

Because if Welbeck wouldn't have been here, we had Hernandez and Berbatov capable of playing in his place. And Rooney was in top form.

One season earlier we had a whoring out of form Rooney and a just arrived Hernandez. So, you see my point...

Who said it was? I was simply responding to a poster that claimed all the games he didn't score in were probably games he didn't play or got just 5-10 minutes.

Surely that was the initial point. Why bring up when he scored the goals if not to belittle his achievement? The important point to consider is how many points it won us when our star player couldn't be bothered.

It might have been the initial point but it wasn't a point I made, so why quote me?

You keep going on about this "just arrived Hernandez" but he was superb right off the plane, so no, I don't really see your point.

No. There was quite a difference between how he played in the first half of the season and how he played in the last part. For example in 2010 he had three spells of four games when he didn't score. After New Year the biggest spells of games he didn't score were 2 games in a row.
