it isn't an age argument. it is a talent/class/ability argument. yes i concede, as i have in other posts, that with berbatov, the risk of him failing at utd is less because he's 'premiership proven'. however as players, zlatan is on a different planet. it is like comparing wayne rooney to tevez IMO. zlatan being in wayne's calibre, berbatov in tevez. just at different levels and that is not disrespect to berbatov's abilities in any way.
if you also watch lots of spurs matches, maybe glaston can attest for me, berbatov does tons of dropping off and playing keane through. he's not as clear cut of a out and out striker as some people might feel. Yes, i know he can play that role, as he did at times in leverkusen, but not nearly as good as zlatan.
zlatan is ideal, berbatov would be getting 2nd place target. (if we are trying to get someone with those attributes, which i don't agree, but that's for another argument).

Still early days, transfer window hasn't even opened yet. SAF had his eye on him last season, and I think his sights are still firmly fixed on the Bulgaria captain.

yes, i know spurs will try to recoup some of the money they spunked on bent, which is why i think they will demand something exorbitant. we aren't a charity used to bail out spurs stupid decisions.
25-30 is zlatan money not berbatov money. and i don't think fergus will think he's ideal, maybe the best on what is being currently touted on the market, but certainly not the best out there as a whole.

I dont agree with your Rooney/Tevez comparison - they are actually quite different players playing in a similar role, energy and determination are probably the only two comparable attributes otherwise i would not say that they offer the same things playing behind a striker.
Berbatov adapts the way he plays depending on who he is partnering - he could form a fantastic partnership with Rooney/Tevez/Ronaldo as he did with Voronin and more recently Keane. He has the talent to play the main striking role for us, that's obvious, we have plenty of goals in our team already - with more expected from Rooney and Tevez, then there is the unstoppable Portugesa. Zlatans ability to form a successful partnership is more of a grey area - he is usually out in the sticks by himself, a lonely strikers tale.
It isn't realistic to think that Ibrahimovic is or would be available anyways.

unfortunately true. no i agree with you in that i think we will end up with berbatov. i am just not overly excited about that prospect, plus we will overpay for him, and i vehemently feel he will not be a messiah as quite a few feel he will be.
If we are spending upwards of £30 million pounds on Ibrahimovic then why don't we buy Eto'o or Villa or Gomez or Benzema or any other fancy foreigner that has scored a few goals and been touted as the next best thing.
Big signings from foreign leagues are not always a success - Veron, Shevchenko and Drogba (first season) are obvious examples. Some players adapt, others don't, it usually takes a settling in period, some fly, others don't succeed.
Berbatov would be the most sensible option.

The fact that you think that if Man Utd payed £25m for Berbatov tomorrow, he wouldn't be worth it, but a season on when/if Utd win the treble and Berbatov plays a big part in Utd's season, he is..all of a sudden worth £25m.
Ignoring your reluctance to consider his age by the end of next season, I think its a bit of a contradiction really. People ignore the fact that Berbatov is in his prime, still under contract, and at a club that don't need to sell.
If you can't see the guy is something special, then I doubt the rest of your footballing knowledge/opinions.

Please explain to me how Berbatov is "special" tell me of the times he has scored vital goals, scored hat-tricks and has he even come close to the golden boot? i dont think so.
Berbatov is at his best suited club as it is, Uefa Cup is where he should be, not Champions League (he hasnt even done that well in the Uefa either) i cant remember one match where Berba has been "special" he doesnt even score many goals (10-15 a season) which is what we are looking for in the new striker we buy.

Surely you can see that the one thing we are missing from our attack is a pacy striker that can play on the shoulder of the last defender, latching onto through balls, and finish clinically? Berbatov doesn't offer us that. Don't get me wrong, he is a good player (not as good as many think, but nevertheless, still good), just not what we need.
i have never questioned that berbatov is less risk. but i also believe he is less reward. every transfer as a risk factor and for the very fact that eto'os, villa's, benzema's, zlatan's all haven't played in england means that we don't know if they'll settle in the style or the day to day living culture (which is a big thing for players as well).
i agree abut villa to you, i've never touted him as a purchase for united nor do i think he would come here.
i've always maintained that if fit, eto'o is the ideal candidate, as he as the strength, the pace, the ability to play with his back to the goal, and the finishing to be a massive hit at united. However he also is a real handful to maintain in our dressing room. However it isn't like berbatov is a model player either. tevez was in a worse situation than berbatov, but didn't act like a stroppy cnut that berbatov sometimes does.
over watching zlatan since ajax (his transfers to juve and subsequently inter have always been bargains IMO), i think he has the skills, audaciousness, and demeanor to be another cantona.
i mean, if we are going to go for value for money, santa cruz could be a better option than berbatov. berbatov has never scored the same amt of goals santa cruz has in england (and santa cruz is in a much inferior team mind you that doesn't create many chances).
i respect your opinion that berbatov is ideal. i don't doubt his quality or ability, and frankly neither of us know how much fergie really has to spend. I do doubt berbatov's value for money and if he will bring something drastically different to the table or will just be a solid addition to make up numbers.
No not necessarily Berbatov with players such as Rooney, who's finishing will improve in my opinion playing off him it would be just as effective. There seems to be a perception on here that Berbatov is slow as well, he is more than capable of running in behind. He is capable of playing in many different ways.
Anyone who has seen Berbatov play quite a lot should see what a class act he is just by his first touch and the way he moves off the ball etc. He would improve our team and is a top player, would do even better playing here.

To be fair Berbatov isn't as slow as he looks/ people make out. I agree there are other players who would fit the bill better. Most are unavailable/unproven/ or don't want to live in Manchester. Sooo..
But to compensate for this apparent lack of pace..Nani and Ronaldo are not the slowest, and both are capable of latching onto a through ball using pace. I really wouldn't be worrying, I know its not his best position, but Rooney isn't slow himself. Perfectly capable of getting behind defenses. He just needs a bit of confidence in front of goal, which he will get through practice and getting a couple of goals early next season. Again people forget how prolific he was before he got injured last season. It was something like 8 goals in 8 games.

Berbatov is a fecking magnificent player. His first touch is fecking sublime. Brilliant player.
We're Manchester United ffs, the European and double Premier League Champions. Most players would give there right arm to play for us. There are better players that would actually fit the bill, and would love to play for us.

Hmmm not so sure. Your team already has enough goals in it. Scored the most this season, will probably score the most next season. If you wanted an out and out goalscorer, I think SAF would have snapped up Huntelaar in January.
