Berbatov

No one doubts that he'll do well (I don't think?), it's just that we could do with a different type of striker and that, given his age (he'd be 5 months off his 28th B'day when he played his first PL game for us) the price is fecking ridiculous.

no doubt benzema was first choice, but its clear that Lyon arent selling, we could a fiasco la Real with Ronaldo, why waste the time for nothing, you said Berbatov will be a success.

If this happens soon as it seems it will United will possess:

Rooney
Tevez
Saha
Manucho
Berbatov

and more than likely mr. cristiano ronaldo, talk about a potent strike force. Ronaldo is as good as anyone in the air, so that really isnt an issue, the thing I like about Berbatov is that he has a brilliant footballing brain and technique, I will be surprised if he doesnt prove himself just like Tevez this year.

Offer them Saha as well, sure they can syphon off some of that medical insurance to cover an extra 5 or 6 million

Look Ekeke, it doesn't change the fact that you handed out the first pathetic insult. Even tempted me with sarcasm, though not directly quoting me. Both were irrelevant (as usual) to what i was saying.

You are a fecking idiot, and have avoided everything i have said, arguing irrelevant points and being pedantic about what i have written.

It has been noted many times that you completely avoid questions and answers relayed before you, it continues.

Stop acting like a prat and hiding behind your pathetic, sarcastic smilies.

Dont worry about ekeke, do your best to just not get involved or respond to anything he says because its not worth arguing with a moron who is clearly young and cant have a proper discussion with, without either trying to act smart or if all else fails just ignoring arguments then looking for something to be pedantic about.

Everyone can see this so dont worry.

Berba is on his way and ekeke is slowly but surely changing his tune, no matter if he likes to admit it.

I cant wait for it to break on sky sports news and see him walking around OT preparing for a medical

Apparently Saha is off to Sunderland in a pay-as-you-play deal.

Should be a cheap investment then...

I think that some people who would rather we didn't sign Berbatov are being too perfectionist.

Agreed, he isn't the quickest. He isn't the best finisher. He isn't very young. But he's still the best option.

There just isn't much choice of high quality strikers really. If you want someone younger, quicker and deadly in front of goal then you will inevitable sacrifice on other attributes. With Berbatov, I think the sacrifice isn't so great. There is hardly anybody as good on the ball as him who is also as strong in the air and as quick on the ground. I think he's as quick as Drogba, and although he's not as strong he's a hell of a lot better with the ball at his feet. His goal scoring record isn't immense but he is a good finisher.

Plus I don't think that we really need a pacey striker who is looking to run behind defences. Teams defend deep against us usually, there isn't much space behind the defence to run into. We need our pacey players running from deep. Ronaldo is best running at defenders. Rooney is best running at defenders. Berbatov is best recieving the ball with his back to goal, and is capable of turning the defender or picking out a team-mate. Inside the box he's got fantastic technique and would score loads of goals for us I'm sure. The only question mark is whether he's got the right attitude to bust a gut and get into the box, but I'm sure that playing for United will motivate him consistently.

They are reporting on Fox soccer here in the US the deal is done at some where around 50 minillion. Not sure how true it is.

Plus he is not just a finisher as he gets many assist so we wont be predictable.
The man has everything (experience, skills, pace, creativity, not selfish and height)

That is 50 million US not Pounds sorry about that

So by 28 million they mean 18 million plus performance related add-ons?

Could be worse.

I can't understand people who are so worked up about price. Why does it matter anyway?

And regarding age, we signed Sheringham at 31 years old, and that worked out quite well.

One of the advantages of signing old players is that there is less likelihood of their heads being turned by other clubs ... I think.

I used no such thing, and you insulted me before anything. You made no good points, so they weren't ignored. Be happy this post wasnt.

Old Trafford chiefs denied claims yesterday they had agreed a £28m deal with Spurs for Dimitar Berbatov.

So much for the broadsheets claim that we had paid 28 mil.

I can see this turning into a long game of brinkmanship over the price.

i agree. i think we should go no higher that 27m. i think that is more than a fair price in today's climate for a player that is 27, is on a fairly long contract and will have little resale value. i think the fact spurs payed 16m for darren bent last summer is not helping our cause much though.

Used to have my reservations about the player in the past but he has won me over as far as his technical attributes are concerned. He looks stylish. If Spurs want £30mil for him it must mean that they actually value the player at £20mil which is a fair valuation given the maturity in his play, quality and current market environment. The additional £10mil is just a United special premium that we unfortunately are subjected to in most transfers and certainly one that we will recoup in one season alone.

Berbatov is everything we need, I have always been in favour of more quantified quality in the squad and he certainly fits the bill. If Spurs want top dollar for him JUST pay them what he's worth. With his playing style, provided that injuries don't come into the equation, Berbatov can play on and still be an effective player till he is atleast 33, thats 5-6 years worth of fahpping for the likes me and most other fans.

Just look at Ruud, a less stylishly talented footballer still being effective at 32 now OR Fat Shearer who still managed to cause havoc after hitting the magical 30. Granted those two are arguably two of a kind BUT it just goes on to show that age isn't really a hindrance provided that a player stays free of injuries and looks after himself well (ala Giggys and Scholesy).

So sign him

Well, as I said, still some way to go and I don't believe a deal has been agreed already. But since there's no denial from either club it really looks like our interest in the Bulgarian is genuine. If that's the case, I expect him to sign for us in the coming weeks.

from all the news about spurs trying to buy players, it's pretty clear they don't mind selling their top assets to raise the cash.

i don't think there's any doubt they are thinking of selling Berbatov at his peak to raise as much money as possible. Question now is how much can we agree with them for.

Wenger has gone on record time and time again signing his praises and if the Adebayor sale goes through then I see no reason why they wouldn't have a shot at signing him. It was Arsenal's interest that was announced way before Barca or Chelsea were on the scene

As for the Chelsea interest you must of been living under a rock because the stories have been everywhere! Whether or not they're any more credible than the stories linking us with Hunterlaar is another matter

And even if you are right (which you are not) and Arsenal and Chelsea aren't in for him Barca are and he wouldn't choose Spurs over them (sorry Glaston)

But if Arsenal and Barca aren't willing to pay the money and the Chelsea 'interest' proves to be bollocks then that doesn't leave much else.
