Besiktas JK vs. Manchester United

Scholes should play as he's banned for the next Premiership game.

Anybody know who the danger men are for Besiktas?

Valencia
Carrick

Park

Rooney
Owen

I'd rest Nani, Berbatov and Evra and give other players a run out, esp. Owen, Valencia and Park. Maybe Carrick will find some form with games, too.

should do the trick, gives Owen a chance in Europe

I read that Nihat, formerly of Villareal has gone there this season, so he should be one to watch.

Yep. Rodrigo Tello, in midfield is also pretty skillful, versatile, and known for his long-range shooting. Their defence is pretty solid atm as well, (Köybaşı, the left back, who they bought from Gaziantespor, is highly rated) and they only conceded once in their first four league games, and that was away at Istanbul BB.

I'm still reasonably confident for this one though,

TODAY IN ISTANBUL

Tuesday 15 September

12:43 Just been looking at Besiktas' domestic form so far this season - they've picked up just one win from their opening five games. They've also had three draws and one defeat which came just three days ago in the Istanbul derby against arch rivals Galatasaray. And they've found the net just three times. Certainly encouraging for the Reds.

12:15 Aside from preparing his players for tonight's game, the boss will no doubt have one eye on Sunday's Manchester derby - one of the most eagerly anticipated clashes for a long time. I personally can't wait! He was asked at yesterday's press conference whether he felt the squad had enough recovery time from tonight to Sunday to which he responded 'yes, we've got ample time,' before revealing that the starting XI to face City will be very different to the one that plays this evening.

10:35 Morning. It's another warm day in Istanbul if a little cloudy. The players have had breakfast and are due to have a stretching session this morning. I'm popping out briefly to try and speak to some fans.

Jacob's prediction

Line-up:

--------------------------Foster----------------------
Neville----------Evans--------Vidic-------------Evra
Valencia------Carrick--------Scholes----------Nani
----------------Berbatov--------Rooney-------------

Score: Besiktas 0 - 2 Manchester United

Goals: Berbatov, Nani

Player to watch: Berbatov

I think getting Berbatov on the scoresheet is much more important than Owen at the moment, hope he comes into his own tonight.

Fergie did say in his press conferance that they team that will play tonight will be very diff from the team that plays in the derby.

Apparantly, It’s the only stadium in the world where you can see both Europe & Asia.

Brazilian legend Pele says it’s the most beautiful view from any stadium in world football.

I would of expected a tea like that but after hearing Fergie say that it will be a diff team to the derby team i think there might be a few more changes then expected.

I thought this game was tomorrow :D

Think if it is only one from Nani or Valencia, i think Valencia will get the nod and Nani for Shitty.

TV3 have the Tuesday night games
RTE have wednesday nights

Its on sky tonight i'm sure

Does anyone know if the match is on live US tv? I've checked FSC and don't see it. In their infinite wisdom FSC are playing Marseille v Milan and then showing a tape delayed Chelsea v Porto.

They do appear to be showing it on Friday at 1:00 PM EST and Saturday at 7:00 AM EST.

Just had some calls from a mate of mine, he's staying at the team hotel in Istanbul. He's asked for some photos with him and his baby son - got them with Wes Brown, Gary Neville and Nani. Oh, and he got Sir Bobby's autograph on his kid's United shirt!! He's on the lookout for more but reckons he'll get chased away by security before too long...

I think that will be the team.

Rooney, Vidic and Fletcher rested for City - with Rooney on the bench today although i would like to see Nani start but considering Park hasnt played much this season i think he'll start.

Perfect... My cable is down. Looks like yet another match watched on this damn laptop.

Foster; Neville (will be a good influence in the heated atmosphere that Turkish stadiums inevitably bring), Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic; Valencia, Park, Scholes, Carrick; Berbatov, Owen.

The big worry for me is Bobo. Saw him a year or two ago and he looked very impressive. He's been called up for Brazil but didn't feature. Just looked at his stats - 74 goals in 143 appearances for Besiktas.

Nihat's a decent striker too. I was stunned when Villarreal let him leave.

dunno why you folks want carrick in our team, based on his current form i wouldn't have him anywhere near our team (possibly not even near the reserve squad)...... he has been utter wank since Rome.

By that logic he should never play for United again. He can't regain his form unless he plays.

Because Fergie (and probably most fans) would want Fletcher and Giggs / Anderson very fresh for the derby?

Surely Carrick should play against a weaker side to get back into the swing of things?

So he should never play for United again? Go on, you know you want to say it.

well, have you seen him play recently, cant pass the ball 5 yards.. he has been utter utter shit.. very disappointed with him (and this after a such a wonderful January last season).. he is more frustrating to watch than Nani lately. I would rather play O'shea in the midfield than carrick now (thank god i dont manage united.... lol)
