'Black Peter' and the danger/importance of 'Traditions'

To answer the question, there is a huge difference between what Al Jolson did (a singer who dressed in blackface, but a notable white supporter of civil rights) and what Robert Downey jr did in tropic thunder, to the racist depictions in minstrels and other things like that.

There is a difference but there's a very simple way to avoid causing inadevertant offence to people who may not appreciate the difference. Don't fecking black up.

Impossible to feel sympathy for white folk who think political correctness is denying them the right to "hilariously" dress up as Stevie Wonder or Louis Hamilton. It's not as though any white person ever NEEDS to wear black make-up. There are a million different types of fancy dress costumes to choose from, so choose one that doesn't involve blacking your face up. Simples.

I didn't say any of this at all. I was answering his question.
