Well what a surprise, one defeat and the knee jerk reactions come flooding in

We had a decent first half. Squandered a hat full of very good chances. Got caught short. Then didnt do the business in the 2nd half. NOT an unfamiliar story this season but our tremendous run had to end somewhere.

Plenty of nice Christmas pressie like fixtures to come, so lets not get carried away with todays blip.

Come on ye reds, lets have a barn storming Christmas period and come out on top.

What are the knee jerk reactions?

Neil, I'm surprised by you reaction. Did you see it as a 'good run'. That sounds almost as if we had some luck going on. IMO the team that trotted out today didn't want to win the game, that's very frustrating when you think of the ground we have made up in the last 8 weeks. We threw it away today and not from having bad luck, we played for 2nd place!

We were all over them in the first half, if anything just a bit complacent particularly up front. Their goal changed everything, they came out very fired up and we lost composure. Shit happens. I'm not too concerned. The only thing that does concern me is that we're very dependent on Ruud's form, not just as a goalscorer, but in his holdup play as well. Sounds like Veron will be back next game, and Scholes can then go up front to help hold the ball up as well.

we had enough chances.....'IF' we would have taken them, the result could have been better.

re defence: it was ok, still look dodgy on set plays...(weak in the air) When Blancs around we look more organised.. newcastle game and today are prime examples, plus other incidents i've noticed over the last few games....

Wes and Micky had great games mate, though more so in open play than in set-plays. But its not in defence that things went wrong today, more in midfield and attack. Our away form is nothing like as good as our home form this season, so getting the first goal is all important, we lost belief and composure after going 1 down.

the defence wasn't bad, iam not saying they were...my only worry is that they look dodgy on set plays and crosses.. (without blanc)

like i said, we created enough chances to win... we weren't clinical, its as simple as that.

Thats why having 4 strikers is important to rotate players according to their form.

Would have been 3-0 without Wes and Mickey at the back... Not sure why Giggs was taken off, the shape they had to play with at the end was so foreign that you cannot expect the lads to sit down with it straight away. You are right in the fact that we should have capitalised on the play in the first half.

Bloody frustrating!

There are always games like this each season, but not many. I just hope we don't let it affect our confidence and get straight back to winning. Giggs should be ashamed of his performance today, and should be dropped, he's had a terrible season. What was odd was the shape and lineup of the team after the substitutions, for example he could have broought on Richardson as a straight swap for Giggs.

I think we played ok in the first half. We had our chances to score and on another day we would've been 3 up at half time. I agree with Neil, their goal changed the match.

In the second half tho we were bad. And they played very well. Still could've been a different story if only Ruud had scored... Having that said IMO they at the end of the day deserved their three points.

I'm confused about our substitutions BTW. Keane on for Phil was the obvious choice IMO and why we opted to play without a left winger at the end I don't understand but this wasn't our day.

Now the match against Boro will be very important. I would've easily settled for four points from this two matches. Three won't be to bad and we then have Birmingham and Sunderland at home. So nine points and it'll be very close at the top come Jan 2.

Today's performance was a clone of ganes like Bolton and Leeds. Sloopy finishing gets punished. Its almost a Law in football.

Agreed, but in '99 if the front two weren't working we'd just bring on another pair who would.

I can see Arse romping a winning streak. They have had a very poor 4 games and will come out stronger and tougher. They get Viera back in and I can see another repeat of last year.
We could have done without losing today, that's all.

- Can we play the game again please :(

They are playing Liverpool at home on Dec 29 and Chelsea at home on Jan 1 so there's every chance they'll drop points.

wes brown was the best player in the red shirt today ... ruud was rubbish .. scholes made a couple of nice passes, beckham was hardly seen

I think they play Liverpool twice within a couple/few weeks time, along with their match against Chelsea. So, as long as we play well, we have every chance of picking up some points in the next couple of weeks.

I agree with Neil though. We do need a 4th striker. In '99, when 2 of the strikers were off their game, we just put the other 2 on, and more often than not, they did the business for us (classic example being Ole/Teddy in the European Cup final.)

I thought Becks was better than Ole had been when he came on - made two very good cross field passes that opened them right up.

Simple, even for your little Brainless head, Play Becks instead of Forlan, and play Ole with RVN upfront. Get it, Forlan has no Business being there when every great player is available, heck he has no Bus being there period.
Shit everton just hit the post..shit

A draw would have been a fair result, but we lost to a miss hit shot that wrong footed everyone. Shit happens.

A few concerns :

- Why did we take BOTH Forlan and Giggs off ? It left no forward players with the ability to take on defenders.

- Thought SAF was throwing Blanc up field when he brought him on. There would been nothing lost by trying it for the last 10 minutes and creating some pressure that way. We shouldn't be shy of hoofing it long when we run into defensive brick walls with the footballing options.

Blackburn's defence was outstanding and they seemed to want it more, plain and simple.

Originally posted by Jens:
beckham was hardly seen

Disagree there. Becks made at least two outstanding crosses to set dangerous attacks. IMO Ole looked tired and should have been replaced by Becks early in the game.
Taking Forlan off instead of Phil was a substitution I didn't understand.

Would like to know, how you watched the game mate. As fecking Premiere showed the Liverpool game.

Pity about the result but you're right - our away form has been poor this season. Let's hope Keane coming back can put some aggression into central midfield for those types of game.

I'm not sure we'll be seeing that type of Keane again. Alex has even talked about him not tackling, and in his reserve game he wasn't tackling either - in fact in that game he was more of a playmaker.

Trying to sound like an optimist here but this defeat may have been a blessing in disguise. We have never had a decent record agianst low sides like rovers n it was always at the back of my mind b4 the game got underway. everyone played well BELOW PAR n we ddint seem to have much of a mid field. IE WE DESPERATELY MISSED VERON. even though we didnt play particulary well a loss was a bitter pill to swollow for our guys. if only ruud had finished earlier n the time when he was 1-on-1 with keeper. Shit happens i agree but hoepfully thats the last of it n it has sparked our guys back into foucs. We looked lethargic at times n the dour atmosphere at ewood didnt seem to help. We REALLY need to get somehting from the riverside match. A win would be tremndously helpful against a solid looking 'boro lineup who r playing well.

COME ON UNITED!!!!!!
