Blackburn Rovers v Manchester Utd

I was watching the game with a friend on Monday, he got into great positions, there's no denying that. But his final ball was almost always poor. He made a good few tackles as well, but he also gave the ball away almost as much as Evra and Welbeck did towards the end. If he had a little more composure and end product in that game he'd almost have rivalled Valencia for MotM. He just seems to go from one extreme to the other, in my eyes anyway. I think we can put it all down to nerves and age, but he wasn't the only one. He's just one player whose first-term place isn't guaranteed and things like that could cost him starting a match (it's possible that his mistake against Bilbao was the reason he didn't start the next game despite being decent).

I thought he kept the ball well all game. Think only Carrick and Evans from memory had more passes than him, and he only gave it away 5 times, none of which were in dangerous areas defensively. He only gave away 2 free kicks, one of which was very harsh. I agree his final ball wasnt great, but defensively i thought he was mature and going forward he was strong, linking up really well with Valencia, with his runs off the ball creating soa lot of space for others. I'd have no problem if he played like that every game.

Sunderland away and Everton wont be any easier..
There are still a few potential banana skins.. need to take it 1 game at a time.. looooong way to go.

hope we/ve won it before Sunderland (a)

a bit uneasy about Everton and Swansea but fancy us vs Blackburn

Definite banana skin. But judging by what I've thought of previous games, it'll be almost the opposite. We nearly fecked up the Fulham game, so we'll run out comfortable winners in the end here. 1-3.

Currently our best and most in-form starting 11, bar possibly Hernández. But him and Welbeck have been indifferent lately, for me anyway. Both chipped in with goals but have both had all-round bad play at times as well. So, I'd just do the reverse of the Fulham game and start with Hernández, bring on Welbeck. However, I could also see Berbatov on the bench again. He might still have something to prove and if Hernández or Welbeck don't cement the starting slot he could sneak in and bag a few goals.

Carrick + Scholes is the way for us to go in nearly every game left from the start I reckon, whether we play a 442 or 433. Valencia should start every game on the right, while I'm sure Nani will push Young for the first team spot again in the remaining games. But Young should be starting right now.

Ferdinand and Evans is consistent, I heard somewhere that we've only lost one Premier League game this season with that pairing - and that was to City at Old Trafford when he got sent off anyway. Evra obviously needs to play and despite a somewhat average game from Rafael against Fulham (good moments, dire moments) he should still start again.

Would like to see us get a lead so we can bring on Nani, Cleverley, and Jones/Smalling. All players who I'd class as still coming back from injury.

Also, I could see us going 433 here with Cleverley to start over Hernández.. But I'm not sure.

Probably Berbatov in for Nani on the bench now - but could also be Park or Pogba.

For old times sake, I'd like to see Berbatov start. Won't happen but it should given Welbeck and Hernandez are not in top form.

Although, like sammsky, I can see a case for Berbatov starting.

This is going to be a really tough match. I can see this being a very frustrating match with us trying to grind out a result.

Well Berbatov has like seven goals against them in recent games, so the case for him will never be stronger.

I still want us to start 4-3-3 like I lined-up earlier in the thread, but if Sir Alex insists on two strikers then I'd actually like Berba to start - though there's probably more chance of Sir Alex starting himself in this one than Berba.

Got 6 tickets for this, we've all taken the day off on Monday and are really up for this. Last year was incredible (lost a shoe pre game though, long story).

This is a massive game, despite their position this is probably the most difficult game in our run-in excluding the City game (might be decided by the Sunderland game). 3 points would be absolutely huge and I think we'll get them. Hard fought 1-3.

Do elaborate!

As for the game, a lot will depend on the City game on Saturday. If they slip up, I reckon we can run riot. If they win, it will be a tight game as we will be nervous.

We need to be more patient in our attack. We've seemed hurried and very direct away from home this season. Won't be able to watch this one live, but the phone will definitely be off and I plan to avoid all internet connectivity until I get home to watch it.

Another big match, and this is what the title chase is all about.

Hmm, I didn't realize we had two monday night football games in a row. The NFL never does that, and since they seemed to be copying the NFL model I didn't even consider it.

I suppose there's something nice about having the day all to yourself, as the only game it might give you more viewers, though being on a weekday it probably draws less neutrals than a weekend day would.

It would be nice if this one wasn't close at all.

Do the league seems to always put Blackburn away at the end of our season or do they just stick out that much? Let's get this one out of the way in the first half of the year from now on.

A load of us went up, sank our fair share of cans on the way up and were desperate for a piss by the time we got there. We ran into some woods near the ground and went there. On my way through I somehow managed to step into a river that was covered with about 2m of leaves and a load of mud. Long story short, it was like quick sand and I lost a shoe in it. Couldn't go back home but couldn't miss the game either, so I had to go to the game like that. Had to explain to about 10 people why I had one show on and the other leg covered in mud to the knee

Blackburn and QPR next.. neither will be easy with both being physical sides fighting for their lives..
Cant we play Arsenal every week?

Crucial match and if we can win this and then QPR I think the title would be ours. But we do have some breathing space with the City result today.

Agreed. Id go for that. We need to attack them straight away. Having Scholes will mean we keep the ball as well.

Fergie just needs to hammer home to the team that they can't take the foot off the gas despite City dropping points. City's squad is incredibly strong, and this 'blip' probably won't continue. These might be the last points that City drop this season - that's the mindset we should be in.

No screwing about, first XI with Scholes and Carrick in the middle, best back 4 possible and Rooney and Welbeck up front.
