Just read about the blackface stuff, pretty grim. Not sure Griezmann knows about it, like i didn't either, he is just a big fan of basketball afaik. But yeah, not the wisest thing to do.
It applies to everyone and it takes one second to google blackface so yes they are stupid. You can't tell POC what they can and can't be offended by. This has a dark history and is highly offensive. Just as someone would take offense to stamping on a Poppy or something. Just a wrong thing to do

I don't think he ment anything by it though, France is a very multicultural country and so are many of Griezmann's team mates, so very much doubt he's racist and it's more of a misunderstanding
People should just explain to him what doing that means, he'll probably then delete it, say sorry and hopefully that should be the end of it, highly doubt that will happen though, as the public like celebrities to be made an example out of and pay for 'misunderstandings' with their careers.

It's a massive deal in the USA but I doubt the majority of the European population realizes how serious of an issue it is. Could be a simple case of cultural ignorance.
A reminder a white person can dress up as a black person without going in blackface. The blackface makes it racist.
It does take one second to google blackface, but in order to know the term blackface means you have the knowledge of it already doesn't it? If yoyu have never heard of blackface, how the feck are you meant to know to google blackface?

People are saying it isn't offensive not because they are racist, it is because they are uneducated in the term blackface. I have never heard the term before tonight, yet you think people should have googled the term to educate themselves. All I was asking is how do we google a term we know nothing about?
Correct. However, now I think about it, Griezmann had to be familiar with it somehow, or how else would he know to put it on? He probably thought it was a fashion accessory or something
Honestly, footballers nowadays.Maybe mainland Europe, but the black and white minstrel show was taken off air in the 60s because it was seen as racist (and then bought back for 10 years) at the time. People in the UK can hardly act like there's been no controversy with blackface in our recent history.
The Netherlands still have the "Black Pete" Christmas tradition and the German national team had a picture in blackface like last year.

The Netherlands faced severe backlash last year, if I remember correctly. They've toned it down to a more socially accepted version of that particular tradition now. Dunno enough about the German NT pic to comment.
