A nothing trophy? Before winning the FA Cup against Stoke in 2011, the League Cup was their last trophy in 1976. They'd have killed for another one when United fans were mocking them with the banner counting the years since then. Suddenly all billy big bollocks and too good for it now? No, still small-timers at their core that would begrudge United any silverware.

True, I'd forgotten all about that. Also worth remembering that when they finally ended the drought, United fans were already busy celebrating another Premier League trophy. I remember getting back from Ewood that day and just giving it a shrug of the shoulders when they won.

I read few pages yesterday but it got boring quickly. It is just same, "rag, rag.." drivel filled with extreme bitterness with no sense of humor. Boring compared to RAWK who always have funny gems, even their pot shots are funny sometimes and of course the poetic nature of posts on RAWK.

Not really. It's more about L'pool, City fielded a strong team (even Arsenal? losing to Birmingham in final) and got done by some minnows while we got the pride trophy for fielding our Reserve

Yeah but this is off the back of winning the FA cup also. Considering some of the problems we've had this season, it all helps. It's a trophy managers can use to springboard to better things.

This trophy was a catalyst for our success in 2006 too.

that 2006 Cup was definitively a turning point for us. TBH i never understood why many on here ridicule League Cup and Community Shield. In many countries it's a trophy with prestige.
The League Cup is a nice little boost and keeps the trophy cabinet ticking over (take note Arsenal & Liverpool) but the CS is a one off game at the start of the season, it is a glorified friendly.
Not really, but it wasn't a tournament for our first team until the Semi's, unless we got a traditional rival in an earlier round. Developing the kids and playing the rest of the squad was the M.O. for the tournament from the early 00's until around '08, and then it took on a life of its own as a serious competition for everyone and pretty much lost its lesser status.
I think the FA cup losing a lot of its status as the domestic cup played its part, too. The Milk Cup was a nothing trophy when the FA Cup was god, but the way the FA Cup has nosedived from what it used to be has changed everything.
Winning stuff is always great. The salty tears are a nice added bonus.
Never called it a shit cup but it is the lowest priority when we are challenging for the big honours. As we aren't at the moment, it is important.
