Bluemoon goes into Meltdown

Was it not a bit early to dig this thread up again?
Nah, I'd be surprised if anyone seriously thought West Ham could get something from this game. Was just showing that we're not the only ones for dramatics in the match threads.

I can’t tell whom I dislike more, these or Liverpool. It was always clearly Liverpool but the lines are blurring.

Same here, ever since the Gerrard slip, the Scousers don’t seem to matter any more.

Whereas City have adopted the holier than thou attitude of Barca...

Where does Liverpool's money come from? Their own success as a club over the years.

Where does Liverpool's status come from? From decades of mixing it up at the top (ish).

Where does citeh's money come from? From a disgusting, archaic, human rights flaunting arabic oil royalty.

Where does citeh's 'status' come from? From arabic oil money - not money that was even earned the dirty way (like, say, Chelsea).

citeh are scum in my opinion, they're actually a club that is morally questionable in what it's doing to the game and where that money is coming from.

That said, I'd rather they won the PL than Liverpool... why? Because this citeh aren't really Man City anymore - they've been hollowed out and replaced with an arabic oil core that has nothing to do with the club's success or history, and deep down their sad fans know this.

Both sets of fans are highly cretinous, but the scouse can't handle success without turning into utter muppets of unbearable levels. Whereas citeh are expected to win the PL.

I wouldn't know, I was only born at the end of the 80s (lolzy)

They are a bit crazy I went to their fantasy league thread to see what are the thoughts on Aguero / Jesus rotation and all I found was another Rag discussion

Every year we say no rags, and every year the top teams are full of rags the whole season.
Yeah I just saw that when checking the table, wasn't the rule automatic disqualification originally?
feck it would rather be bottom and ragless than top and have them.
Perhaps two leagues next year. A purists league and a dirty dishonourable rag loving league. Just a suggestion and congrats to Zabman for being top of the clean league.

They've got no respect for United and none should be shown to them. Yet they're obsessed with us.

If it was up to me I'd have none in here, making snidey, passive aggro WUM remarks and then going back and laughing about it on blue moon.

Eloquently put. Agree completely.

Not being from Manchester, City mean very little to me, on a par with the likes of Sunderland or West Ham. Don't see myself ever really taking them seriously as a club.

Liverpool and Arsenal are really there for comedy value but Chelsea and City, especially City are the teams I really loathe! If ever we had to concede a title to another club, I could only just stomach it going to the Gooners!

I certainly understand people not liking United, but it's bizarre how widely liked City are, given they're a club that inherited a rich owner, and they went and built a title winning team within a few years with money that wasn't theirs. I was living up in Aberdeen when City first won the league under the Mansour regime, and all of a sudden everyone there was a City fan. I watched that horrendous 1-0 loss at the Etihad that season at a Weatherspoons. The place exploded when Kompany scored. What is there to enjoy about that as a neutral? RB Leipzig are despised in Germany for similar reasons, though not quite a title winning team, yet.

I do love how clubs we don't give a stuff about, like the likes of Stoke, West Ham and Southampton, seem to see us as their big hated rival. There's nothing quite as pathetic as an unrequited rivalry.

I never understood other clubs wanted City or Chelsea to win the title instead of United. They do realize they are 2 places lower and some even relegated because City and Chelsea were bought by billionaires? Liverpool would have a title if it wasn't for City, Spurs would have one and Arsenal would have 2 if it wasn't for Chelsea.

Are they forgetting that they drew us last year at Old Trafford only to blow it while looking the better side? It was Pep who fielded an under strength side against us and they went out.

I suppose it was all out fault

Dont recall them looking the better side in that one. De Gea didn't have save to make from memory.

ABU hate is strong. They see City as the antidote to our reign of terror.

They secretly dream of a similar lottery win for their club.

Wasn't that the one everyone was all "Oh, but Sir Pep the magic played the kids... the kids!" only for it to turn out we had a younger average age than them?

Although I don’t share quite the same vitriol, I understand the sentiment. I’m kinda numb to City winning things atm (unless they’re directly competing with us) because I still haven’t fully accepted them as a peer yet. Let alone a genuine rival in the wider cultural context.

I’m under no illusion that it’ll eventually happen. When the memory of their propulsion fades a little, and they’ve won enough to have carved out a respectable legacy of sorts (Chelsea, for example, are now the 4th most successful club in England, and the only London side to win the CL, so it’s pointless pretending they’re still a plastic franchise.)... but right now, I still partially see them as the club who copied the Poznan and bought Barcelona’s backroom staff in an attempt to fast track their identity.

It’s slowly eroding, and will inevitably continue to. Like the idea of Newcastle or Blackburn as rivals did. But for now it’s still less of a deal to me than it probably should be. I celebrated City beating Pool to the league in ‘15 because it didn’t feel like a significant event. It didn’t stir anything in me. It was almost like a write off, as daft as that sounds.

I’d imagine a lot of the neutral love for them stems from a similar point of (current) indifference. United have been the big bad of the PL for decades, beating sides and making enemies of a whole generation of fans. It makes perfect sense that most clubs would harbour more ill will toward us than a relative upstart they don’t have countless bad memories of. Even if they are evil. People voted for the irrational evils of Brexit & Trump just to plant one on the supposed elites of the status quo.

And yes, in this hastily formed metaphor, we’re the elite, and City are Trump. I’m going with that now.

Also it’s easier to gain favour with the neural when you play really good football, obviously. But I could probably lazily equate that to populist dog whistle rhetoric, or something. You fill in the blanks.

But it is harder than ever to break into the top and "mix it up". Every league seems to have a certain group of clubs that is just so far ahead of everyone else financially that none of the other clubs will ever truly become part of that group. So you are saying that the same 2-6 clubs get to compete for trophies every single year and no one else does because they cannot outspend everyone else by obscene amounts.

And yes, in this hastily formed metaphor, we’re the elite, and City are Trump. I’m going with that now.

Fergie is a staunch union man, socialist and Labour man, so I'll give you that. We're Corbyn.

But Trump? citeh? Trump's too big a menace, with too rich a back-story. No, Trump would be, say, Real.

Man City...? Farage. It's gotta be Farage.

Loud, obnoxious, obsessed with their more popular and more successful rival. Tapping into and manipulating the common man's (or neutral, in football's case) desire for 'change' and 'sticking it to the big-wigs', all the while actually standing for the total opposite of that.

citeh are football's Nigel Farage.

Ahem! Leicester city?

I’m not campaigning for their abolishment or anything. I’m just explaining why I’m largely indifferent to them in this current moment. Much like Chelsea, they’ll most likely earn the respect required to be considered a genuine peer in time. They just aren’t there for me yet. And have a way to go.

Though tbf, as far as “ruling elite power clubs” go, we have it a lot better in England than most do. Especially as the likes of Leicester and Spurs have managed to fight their way to the top table without obscene artificial assistance. I mean, I’m all for more competition, but it’s not like if you took City out of the equation we’d be a one team league. We’re already in a situation where one of our big power players is going to miss out on CL football every year. And that’s largely been achieved without sugar daddies. Or at least more so than not.
