Boca Juniors vs Manchester United

People seemingly getting waaaay too heated about a pre season game.

Not a surprise that we faltered in the second period with all the travelling.

Can someone give me a summary:

-Brown's injury?
-How did the Carrick-Ando partnership look - discounting Ando's wondergoal?
-Valencia: first impressions?
-Wayne - looking lively?

Fergie said Brown had a "little" thigh pull. Doubt it is anything serious.

Anderson and Carrick weren't troubled in the first half. Anderson clearly had a lot of confidence after his goal as he got forward a lot more than we're used to. Fergie said he hopes it gives him the boost to push on and get more for us. 2nd half we were overran, but there were a few reasons for it.

Excellent debut for Valencia. Didn't look rusty at all. He looks very good over the first 5 yards, likes to take his opponent on and doesn't dally on the ball. You can tell he has experience as he knows when to play it early and when to carry it. Saw him putting in a few strong tackles in too, which is good to see. He wasn't afraid to shoot either. Very promising if that debut is anything to go by.

Rooney was crap. Just didn't happen for him. He said that it was one of the worst games he has ever played. No need to worry though, it will come.

I like that description of Valencia. Directness is just what we need of one of our wingers. Especially with a more elaborate winger in Nani on the other side.

SAF singled out Cathcart and Fabio in particular for praise. He seemed extremely happy with Fabio - a bit like when Rafael emerged last preseason. I think Evra has a real fight on this season for his position if Fabio stays fit.

I wouldn't go that far.

When Evra is at it, which is pretty much whenever he isn't knocked off stride by a 4 match ban, he is one of the best in the world.

Fabio, according to Ferguson, will give an option in both full back positions. I'd say progress for the lad would be staying fit and learning in the shadow of your Nevilles, O'Sheas, Browns and Evras. Same goes for Rafael.

Well, he dived yesterday for a penalty, shocker.

bollocks, that was a indisputable pen...he dribbled past the defender, who kicked Ronnie in the ankle as he tried to pass. maybe went down a bit easy, but a clear penalty nonetheless.

Let's say that Ronnie did not make any effort to avoid the contact...

It looks like a typical Ronnie dive to me, I have my doubt as to how the contact happened, but can you say there is no dispute?

We are facing Bayern, so rash and create thread.

Ermmm, you might want to wait a bit, Pirlo just scored one, so 2-1 to Bayern

Oh well, it is 4-1 now. It is just preseason, but AC Milan is not looking too good.

Sir Alex Ferguson welcomed his side's 2-1 win over Boca Juniors in Munich today, but admitted he saw plenty of room for improvement in his side.

Anderson and Antonio Valencia both scored their first goals for the Red Devils in a strong first-half performance but, as United tired in the second half, Boca reduced the arrears and had several good chances to level.

And Ferguson acknowledged his side had been slightly fortunate to get away with the win. "I am satisfied with winning, which is always the main aim, but I didn't think we played particularly well," he said. "Maybe it's a realisation that we are coming into a better standard of football after being in the Far East where the games were obviously not as competitive as today. But hopefully it brings us on. Boca were the better team in the second half and probably deserved something out of the game."

Summer signing Valencia made his debut for United in front of 61,000 fans in Munich's Allianz Arena and, after a slow start, he showed glimpses of why Ferguson chose him as the man to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. And the United manager predicted a bright future for the 23-year-old.

"I think he will figure in many games," said the Scot. "It was his first game today. He missed pre-season because he had to go back to Ecuador for a work permit so therefore, for his first game, we are very satisfied. He is a good athlete, has good power and running ability, as we saw today with the way he created a good goal. Maybe it was a mistake by the goalkeeper, but he created the opportunity and opened up spaces for himself."

It took Valencia only 42 minutes of his debut to find the back of the net for the first time. His goalscoring record for Wigan read just seven goals in 83 games, but Ferguson believes this is something he can and will improve on for the Red Devils.

"We know that when you look at his record at Wigan it is not good in terms of goals," added Ferguson. "He knows that too, but when we assess the individual parts of his game, his athleticism and the power in his shooting, then why should he not score more goals? Maybe the way we play will give him more opportunities to score so therefore we expect more goals [from him]."

The only sour note for United was the sight of Wes Brown limping off after just 35 minutes, but Ferguson insisted he was only removed as a precaution. "He felt a little pull on his thigh and there is no point carrying on in a pre-season game," he said.

United return to the Allianz Arena tomorrow for the final against either Bayern Munich or AC Milan, and Ferguson claims he has no preference. "I think all the Germans will want Bayern Munich, but it doesn't matter if we play Bayern, who we have played many times and they were always fascinating games," the coach said. "Or there is Milan. We look forward to them."

wow, yes, thank you for demonstrating my point...quito's #15 lashes out wildly and kicks ronnie in the ankle after the ball is past him. what's to dispute???

Was a penalty, but he clearly exaggerated any contact and did everything he could to fall over.

Some people see that as diving.
