Boro v United [FA CUP]

This could be tougher than it looks.

We've got players out injured and we've not been playing particularly well recently, they have especially Yakubu and Viduka.

We desperately need to find the form we had earlier in the season. :nervous:

Boro have a good defence and quality strikers, so they definitely will be able to cause us problems. We won't get away with fielding a severely weakened side.

Yeah just saw that. Good for the lad, if he comes on.

Code:
                Kuszczak

Brown Rio Vidic Heinze

Park Carrick O'Shea Giggs

            Rooney Larsson
Subs: VDS, Gary, Ronaldo, Dong, Smith

Go with a sneaky 2-1 victory, Larsson, Giggs, Viduka

Keep the treble hopes alive!

what about this team?

VDS
Neville Ferdinand Vidic Heinze
J.S Park Carrick O'Shea Richardson
Smith
Larsson

Subs Kuszczak - Evra - Ronaldo - Rooney - Giggs

I think Fergie will rest Giggs again and either Ronaldo or Rooney. Maybe both. Our midfield are not so good from the start, but VDS and the defenders are class.
Hope we can have at least a draw after the 1st half and after that bring on Giggs, Rooney and Ronaldo after 50-55 min to win the game.

We have only conceded three goals since the FA-Cup game against Pompey on January 27th and all three of them against Reading.
Worldclass!

We conceded 3 in our previous round against Reading

sky sports news reporting Dong is being unleashed against m'borough.
Cometh the hour cometh the dong

The dong will cometh
The dong will 'stand up' and be counted
The dong will squirt in the face of adversity

VDS - goalies don't need to be rested as frequently as VDS has been.

Gaz - missed a couple of games so will be fresh.
Rio - vital to keeping our defensive cohesion. SAF even said centre halves don't need as much rest.
Brown - Vidic has looked like he needs a rest recently.
Heinze - keep 57 match fit for the run in. No need to risk Evra.

Giggs - rested midweek.
Carrick.
O'Shea - obviously.
PJS - give Ronaldo a break.

Rooney - sort it out lad!
Larsson.

Smith on the bench along with Ronaldo if the game takes a bad turn!

tough game, 2-1 win.

Fergie was saying after the match the other night that they'll both start against Boro.

Quality.

We really need to win this I feel. Another draw and or schedule would be too packed and thereby cause us big problems for the title-run-in.

VDS

Brown Vidic Heinze Evra
Park Carrick O'Shea Richardson
Larsson Smith

I doubt we will risk Rio in this one. He is too important to us right now. Maybe Heinze at CB and Evra at LB?
VDS should play to increase the stability of a greatly changed defence.

Dong is in the squad but I doubt he will even make the bench. It'd be cool to see him play but I can't see us being so comfortable in the game that we could afford to bring him on.

The team will be so weakened, and Boro will treat this as their Cup Final, so the best we can probably hope for is a replay.

A replay would be a pain, but it would at least mean Scholes could play against Blackburn I think.

In his press conference today, Fergie hinted at squad rotation when he said that the minutes the squad players had gained earlier will come in useful tomorrow.

absurd. just so he can waste one of his game suspensions you would advocate a replay. overall, that would be more damaging for us in the run in.

I would be shocked if Richardson (he he...I can hear some bellends here throwing themselves off the roof) O'Shea and Smith dont start...

I'd like to see Smith get a start. He looked good for the last 15 mins or so vs Lille. Would just like to see him get a run out from the start to see where he's at. I think we could risk it vs Middlesbrough and if he isn't ready for it sub him off at Half or so.

Doubt it'll happen, but I'd like to see it to see if he can be ready for the Premiership match vrs Bolton if needed.

Much as I love the F.A Cup...I couldn't give a toss about it this year..just keep everyone fit for the League and secondly the Glorious diversion that is the Champions League.

I can't settle for anything else than a treble, knowing we actually are capable of doing it this term unlike others. Still massive improvements needed in Europe though and with all the injuries coming up, I might settle for FA & PL.

Interesting factoid , Boro have not lost a home FA cup match in the last nine seasons .

I think we'll win the double. If we win tomorrow, that is. Then we'll be just two games away from lifting the FA Cup.

The CL seems a far more daunting task to me. We seem rather comfortable against most English opposition, but in Europe we don't seem to ever hit top gear.

Obviously it would be far better to win. But at least the replay would be on the 19th of March, and the players international teams would be more affected than United. And having Scholes available for the Blackburn game could be crucial.

Do you think that Fergie will rest Giggs again? I would not be surprised if he did.
Giggs last game in the FA-Cup, was it against Villa in january or did he play against Pompey?

I think Giggs will be rested, playing something like this:

Park--Carrick--O'Shea--Ronaldo.

Can't wait, I've therefore come up with the brilliant solution, sleep.

Night all, I'll be hearing from you around 17:00 GMT.
