I think Ronaldo dived for the penalty - the only reason there was no contact is that he tried to hurdle the tackle...whether that menat he lost momentum or he just went down...not sure.

As for the free kick - wasn't a dive because there was contact. He may have left a trailing leg to be caught...but that's not a dive because it depends on the defender having his leg in the way.
 
How fecking good is Paul Scholes? This is perhaps an average performance at his standards, yet he looks miles better than any other midfielder out there. Actually, that goes for most of the games I've watched him play this season.

Agreed. You watch him make certain passes effortessly...and then you appreciate the amount of skill requried.

Definately one of those players you would pay to watch train.

You have to admit there was contact for the free kick.

I know Ronaldo left his leg out there to be caught...but that does not make it a dive.

Surely a dive is when there is no contact?

To be fair...it's not like he had to struggle to reach the defenders leg...it was right beneath him.

I don't wanna go off on a rant here, but this whole diving nonsense is ridiculous. One of the problems if the referees. I wished they played advantage like they do in rugby. In rugby, if there is a penalty to be awarded to a team, the ref lets play develop to see if there is an advantage to be gained...which is how it should be.

In football, the ref makes a split second decison whether it is better to whistle for a foul or let play to continue. Often, supposed advantages work out better for the defending team.

A dive is when you go down under your own momentum. Sicking your leg out and falling over after contact is a dive.
