Breel Donald Embolo

Would love to see us try and get him. He's excelling in that right wing forward roll and has serious promise. 6 foot plus too so has a frame made for the PL.

The Europa games I saw Basel in, he didn't look as skillful as a player I want on our right to be. Those who watch him regularly should shed more light on him.

Basel rejected a huge offer from Wolfsburg in January.

So what happened with this lad? He seems to have gone off the radar for a bit.

Quick, young, strong, plays RW or right side wide forward, also most probably available due to the team he plays for.

One to look out for? Any Swiss fans here that wants to give us some insight?

Gladbach are supposedly interested, which would be a good move for him.

He had injury problems during the second half of the season and is currently injured as well, which might affect his performances or involvement for Switzerland during the Euros. He'll most likely leave this summer.

Thought he would be interesting for more upper echelon teams than Gladbach tbf. Seems built for the PL.

Oh well, lets buy him in 3 years time for £80m instead.

It doesn't have to happen. There's every chance he might sign for a different club, one who can offer more money.

According to Bild Leipzig are about to sign Embolo for 20m.

Sideways move that, don't think its true though. Also didn't they reject a bid from Wolfsburg for more money that that?

You might be surprised then. :)

Such a weird move, it's a sideways step and Basel would be selling for less mo0ney than Wolfsburg offered.

The money part is logical: Fees in winter are usually higher, and his contract expiry date is now six months closer.

If Blick.ch can be trusted (a Swiss tabloid but information on Basel players appear to be okay), Embolo doesn't feel ready for a big club like BVB (!)where he wouldn't have a guarantee to make it into the starting XI. If he doesn't feel ready for BVB, it's obvious he's even less tempted to join an elite club.

Moving from the Swiss league to the Bundesliga is a step up regardless. Plus with the funding from Red Bull they can be competing for European places in the near future.

Sideways step? From Switzerland to Germany? You know what RB Leipzig is, do you? This team will likely play in Europe after next season and may soon be in the Champions League. This is just the beginning for them this summer, more is to follow. Wouldn't be surprised if they would invest the second most money into transfers behind Bayern.

I don't really follow German football but haven't they just been promoted? How will they be soon in the Champions League?

Red Bull finally realised Salzburg won't get them anywhere, so they build a German club from scratch to undermine the 50+1 regulations of DFL. This club is money. They have a new, beautiful stadium built for the World Cup, they are the only Bundesliga club in all of eastern Germany, they paid 20 million € in transfers being in the second league last year.

It's Red Bull's flagship club. Have they ever invested time and money into a sport without the ambition to be the best? RB Salzburg never had a chance because the Austrian league is simply too weak to create an elite club. Leipzig is an interesting city and Red Bull as a brand is huge. If they spend enough money, they should attract more and better players than Wolfsburg did with VW money. I think they have a good chance to play in the CL within the next 3 years.

Won't ffp be quite restrictive for them if (when) they qualify for Europe?

Yeah, like it really put a dent into City's and PSG's development!

I doubt they care, they will just pay the fines. Or, and that's the interesting part here: UEFA seems to accept clubs owned by companies. Bayer doesn't invest all that much into Leverkusen anymore, but Wolfsburg has always been interesting and they have been ignored by FFP. Leipzig might be the same.
Of course, if they get European football, their potential with sponsors is HUGE. Eastern Germany has some major companies these days, they might be willing to invest quite a bit of money into the club. There hasn't been a serious eastern German club competing at the highest level since the wall went down.

Off to RB Leipzig for £16m. Can't believe PL clubs (ourselves included) are letting that happen.

Is it finally official? Really curious about him, because from what I've seen, I don't fully understand the hype. But that doesn't mean all that much. It's definitely a sensible choice to go to Leipzig and have a young team built around him instead of making a step to a bigger club too early, where he might not get that much playing time. The interviews I've read from him and his mother make it seem as if he's really down to earth as well.

I'm sure RedBull are paying him a handsome wage, that others are unwilling to match.
Yep. Wait till clubs line up to pay 4 times that in a couple of years.
Premier League clubs can do nothing about that.
He has said in a swiss newspaper just a few days ago "The Bundesliga is the right next step in my career. It's true that the Premier League is my big dream....well i'm not too young for the Premier League....but i get bored of things too fast....so what should be my target when i'm 24-25 years old if i move now (He's 19) to England?"

Cheers for that. Sensible really as he'd develop much better at a smaller club rather than a big one at this point of time.

 I've never heard this logic before. Quality.

That's the reason we sell Pogba ;) (now he can comeback).

Embolo reminds me of Eto'o, I was surprised we didn't go for hi (or another premier league club). He is definitely talented, Martial and Embolo as insider forwards could have worked really well. I guess a top team would try to sign him in 2 years, but 3 or 4 times more expensive.

Plus, Suisse-german players enjoy a smoother transition into the Bundesliga - it's the easy step up owing to proximity and language
