Brendan Rodgers | Rejoins Celtic on 3 year deal

I don't dislike Brendan, for all my micky-taking, but...he's not a very loyal person, is he?
Even rawkites agree

He doesn't come across the loyal type. Didn't he dump his backroom staff here before he got sacked?

Yep, and I didn't like that either

Brendan has always been loyal to himself ... at least that’s the impression I got

Did he really say he would "give his life" to the club? Especially with what has gone on at Leicester these past four months. Even by Brenton standards that is outstanding.:lol:

Oh what, man who clearly idolises himself above all others (he has a fecking portrait of himself in his living room) and dumped his wife for a hotter model first chance he could happens to not be particularly loyal?

I'm shocked. Really, Brendan Rodgers a bit of a bellend? Nobody could have predicted this.

Football fans amaze me sometimes, did the Celtic fans really think he wouldn't drop them the first chance he got a shot at a decent PL side?

I think Leicester have probably punched above their weight in getting Rodgers in, obviously what he achieved at Celtic doesn't really carry too much weight in terms of achievements in comparison to other Leagues but to go undefeated and win all the domestic trophies available in one season takes a bit of doing. He also leaves Celtic having done an unprecedented Double Treble and still in with a great chance of bettering that this season with a Treble Treble.
Ironic in a way that Neil Lennon was mentioned as a possible interim manager for Leicester until the summer but he has now gone back to Celtic to replace Rodgers.
There were spells last season and again this season where Celtic struggled to break teams down when they stayed compact and sat in but also other spells where they played some sparkling attacking football. Celtic's football during these tricky phases was very slow and predictable and more than a few teams found it easy to counter and hold them at bay. They also brought problems on themselves with the almost obsessive tactic of trying to play the ball out from the back which other teams found easy to deal with at times with high pressing.
Europe is always the real measure of a Celtic manager now, and Rodgers overall record there with Celtic is a bit so-so. He was limited at times by the Celtic money men who didn't back him properly at times during the transfer windows and always hedged their bets during the Champions League qualifying games rather than get players in first to try and ensure qualification.
I think this, and in particular the way Moussa Dembele left in last summer's transfer window with no plans in place to bring in a replacement and then left Celtic short-handed in terms of strikers and also losing their number one player in this department probably helped Rodgers decide to go for the Leicester job rather than wait for something bigger, for example Chelsea if Sarri goes.
Then again, maybe he just sees this job as a potential stepping stone to a bigger club.

He said the same when Liverpool appointed him!

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2012/jun/01/brendan-rodgers-new-liverpool-manager

Rodgers admitted he was relishing the prospect of life at Anfied. "I'm blessed to be given this opportunity," he said. "I want to thank John Henry, Tom Werner and FSG for the opportunity to manage such a great club. I'm really excited and I can't wait to get started on this incredible project going forward. I promise to dedicate my life to fight for this club and defend the great principles of Liverpool Football Club on and off the field."

His face looks like a portrait before artists figured out perspective.
Good move for him and the league. We need a laugh and him calling Vardy a beautiful human whil
Oh my:lol:

This thread didn't disappoint. Mob mentality hasn't lost its step since he left. Glad to have you back Rodgers

"fecked around and got a triple double"

Absolute tool of a man, but a good manager to have in the league in general. He'll have Leicester top 7-8 I'd say, come the final day.

I think, at times, his sense of self-importance and penchant for grandiose statements like that makes him look a bit pompous.
Even allowing for that, I think he is a pretty good manager and could yet be destined for bigger and better things than Leicester.

Wouldn't be surprised if he was caught by surprise that Utd opted for an interim manager (thus looking for something better later) than jump at the chance of signing him up. Which probably said to him he needs to start at Leicester level again in the PL.

He would, but by then even Leicester fans would probably be sick of his sound bites. All managers have their embarrassing moments, but the thing with Brenda is that he has one every time if he so much as opens his mouth.

He’s a complete weirdo but I rate him as a manager quite highly. Of course I’m a little biased.

I think this is a fantastic appointment for Leicester.

Rodgers has done a good job everywhere since Swansea and Leicester seems to be the perfect Rodgers club. Their very well run, have some very good young players, have some very good senior players and they've got some cash to spend.

I know that Rodgers is a bit of a joke because he's obviously got a big ego and has a bit of David Brent-eque quality but I think he's more than that and he'll turn Leicester into something this league is sorely missing. A good team outside of the top 6.

I agree, he is a very competent manager but extremely Brent like. Looking forward to hearing about the gentle souls and great humanitarians of Leicester City FC.

Wolves? Watford?

It will be entertaining to have Brendan’s philosophical insights back in the Premier League. Rather him than Hughes or Moyes.

Though he does look like the result of some poor quality photoshopping.

well this was a fun read...

I'd like to know what Leicester fans are expecting out of Rodgers.
7-10th and go for it in the cups, be in position to try to nick 6th when Chelsea implode every few years.

well it took us 19 years but paybacks a bitch ain't it Celtic fans

Looks like he's been hitting up the botox

We’d have to be in it first

Interesting.

I'm curious as to whether you guys, if you made it into the Europa League, would be content with just sending the second squad out to Azerbaijan, or committing to build your European resume by going far in the competition, while competing in the PL to stay 7th at least.

Yes, I think you are spot on there. Paul Merson was saying he would have thought Rodgers would be in with a shout if Sarri left Chelsea. Can't see him being in the running for the United job, I think the Old Trafford hierarchy would look at Rodgers and think after the way things have gone since Ferguson left, they could ill afford bringing in a former Liverpool manager and him overseeing another frustrating and unproductive couple of seasons if things didn't work out.

He would never ever be considered for the Utd job. No ex Liverpool manager would be.

Good appointment, but the guy is fecking weird.

Are you talking about when Celtic took Martin O’Neill As manager? That was after his contract ran out at Leicester. If you’ve been waiting 19 years for ”payback”, that’s quite chuckleworthy.

Win it, it’s a champions league spot

O’Neill wasn’t out of contract, it’s not something that has been a major factor just added some amusement at the Celtic fans melting down
