Leicester City are about the quality of Lazio. I used to want Rodgers to fail because he's a bit full of himself, but I did have the feeling that he would improve Leicester a great deal.
Don't rule them out of the title race yet.
Edit: Certainly whenever his teams lose he looks embarrassed... "I should be winning every game" attitude.
Let's be honest even before he actually joined Leicester deep down we all knew that he would be an improvement over Claude Puel who didn't do too badly really. Leicester City were capable of this.
Rodgers was an improvement on Puel right in the line of the club's thoughts. Build a team relying on young, talented players mixed with older ones, comfortable in both attacking without giving up on our trademark counter-attacking football (in theory). Said players coming either from our academy or being smart signings.
Let's get something straight though. I see people raving about Rodgers, but the one who really started the rebuild after our title win is Puel in 2017, after the catastrophic Shakespeare experiment. The latter was named caretaker after Ranieri's sacking. He was the managers assistant for a long, knew the club very well and was loved by the players and fans alike. He got the dead cat bounce, reverted to the old style even took us the CL quarters. So we name him permanent manager in that summer, although he had no real managing experience. 2017/18 start is a disaster, everybody quickly finds out that he was out of his depth. Horrible football, disgraceful performances (even the wins), team looking lost on the pitch. Club reacts swiftly, sacks him in October and brings Puel in.
He did the groundwork by phasing out the ageing players and clearing the deadwood. We hired him because he had a proven record of improving young players, getting the most of his flair players (E.Hazard at Lille, Ben Arfa at Nice, Mahrez when he still was with us) and an eye for talent. Tielemans (loan), Maddison, Soyuncu, Pereira, Evans were his signings. He persisted with Chilwell when most of the fans wanted him either sold or loaned. He gradually blooded Choudhury, recalled Barnes from loan and prepared Soyuncu last season to take Maguire's place. He made us more comfortable with the ball at a time where we couldn't string three passes together and were just hoofing it to Vardy.
The negative side was that his football was slow possession based with average to mediocre performances at home, although he had a knack at getting points against the top 6 sides. At some point we felt that he couldn't take us anywhere up and brought Rodgers in, who still has the same philosophy (youth, attacking football), but produces a better football and would get better results. This seems to pay off but do not forget that Rodgers would never have come at the time where Puel took over and he'll certainly go somewhere else should a big club come calling. I like to think that the club is already looking for a successor.
In my opinion, as long as you have a clear vision and set your own objectives, you'll know which manager to get and have no problem in sacking one who doesn't live up to your standards. We sacked Ranieri, who by all means is an absolute club legend, because he fluffed his lines in his (very short) second season and was taking us down. Same for Shakespeare. We gave Puel more time because it was time for a clear out and a complete rebuild. However we signed him because, as I already said, he was known to be a builder.
By the look of it and how this season is shaping up, I think that we have a fair shot at the top 6, maybe top 4. Not carried away though, it's a hard job to be in the top and the big fish won't be in a slump for very long. We'll see how far we can go under Rodgers.
