I am now at the stage where they should simply get out now no deal and deal with the consequences whatever they maybe and that is from someone who still doesn't know what the hell will be needed by me regarding staying in Germany after this farce has run its course.

Do you have resident status, @dogrob?

Thank you my friend.
I have just noticed that this was from early last year and was actually not what I was reading earlier this morning.

The problem is that the BBC update their website so often that it can be awkward trying to find something you read only a short time ago.
I will try again to locate what was written this morning.
It may well not be that different but I am keen to look again at it.

Ok, saw that interview that Laura K who's supposed to be a leading reporter and the questioning is so weak.

There are many complicated reasons but one small example is if the Uk import something and there is no border, it has to comply with EU regulations. The Uk can't set its own tariffs etc, etc

I did have an Aufenthaltserlaubnis @Penna which is permanent resident status which was no longer need after the changes in the law with regards to being in the EU years ago, I recently contacted the local office for foreigners and they told me they dont have a clue whats going on or what will happen. I am now sick tired and fed up of the whole circus and as for the so called politicians each and every one of them should be disgusted with themselves because they are playing around with people and their livelihoods and as for these nothing will change comments I trust not one of these idiots as far as I can throw them.

Can you have it(I'm not writing that) again?

I dont physically have the permit anymore as it wasnt needed due to the EU but on the computers of the office for foreigners they should have that I have a permit which I got in 1996 with no time limit, I could go for German Nationality I have lived here long enough, am married to a German but personally I do not see why I should pay for the Einbürgerung Test (Idiot Test regarding Germany) which costs around 25€ for each attempt then a language test that can cost up to 100€ plus any costs for paperwork which you have to pay yourself and to top it off pay 255€ to get German nationality.

Maybe you should try to get a physical copy of the permit if it's possible. As for the rest it's crazy, in France you pay 86€ for a stamp duty and that's only for the passport, otherwise if you lose your free ID you have to pay 25€.

Surely you'll be OK, if you're already a permanent resident? You may already know this site, the Italian version has been invaluable to us. This is an article from November, but still pertinent.

It cost me €55 to get french nationality. Haven't bothered to get a french passport and the ID card is free of course.

Personally @Penna I trust none of that there are so many ifs and buts for example if I apply for now German nationality and there is no transition period I would have to give up my British nationality. Regarding health insurance and driving licence I have had German ones for years now so that wouldn't be a problem. But all the things mentioned are still ifs and buts who knows what the clowns running the UK will do between now and the end of March.

To be on the safe side I have warned my Mum that if the door bell rings and I am stood there with the stick with the red spotted with all my bits and pieces she will know why.

Brexit is like Trump. As an outsider I said. I hope Trump to see how shit hits the fan. Now I regret it. Same happens with Brexit, so I hope it doesn't happen.

If I weren't British I'd be loving it

You can be sure that politicians around Europe can't believe their luck.
For the first time in ages someone else is taking all the flack and they have someone else to blame for all the problems.

It won't be long before reality returns and they have nothing to hide behind.

We might be the laughing stock at the moment but the other countries and their leaders are very far from perfect.

Believe me, no politician in europe is talking about Brexit in their countries directed to their population. When they answer something about it is for the brittish people and the brittish government. Nobody cares in europe

Brexit is hardly in the news here. Any problems are directed towards the government - not using the EU as scapegoat like it is in the UK.

What? Do you really believe politicians in Europe are blaming "all their problems" on Brexit? Like others said, it's barely mentioned in relation to policies. General feelings are somewhere between light amusement and schadenfreude due to the sense of entitlement and British exceptionalism regarding the EU in the past but overall not too many care.
I just feel bad for my British friends from my time studying in the UK.

I can only confirm what the others are saying. Brexit isn't in the news and has never been, politicians don't talk about it at the exception of extremes that used it as an example during the first weeks after the referendum.

Well at least thats one weight off my mind, i wouldn't be caught dead wearing a couple of bin bags.
A couple?!? You must be middle class, mate... :D

Good point mate after Brexit there will probably be a bin bag shortage too.

If it hadn't been for this bodybag stockpiling then a deceased persons family members would have probably faced the heartbreaking dilemma of having to choose if their loved ones get their top or bottom half covered with a black bag.

Over here in the Netherlands Brexit has been a subject that definitely has been discussed quite extensively by the government and also politicians in general. No Schadenfreude or ridicule, more like loads of (mild to severe) concerns. Mostly because of the fact that the UK is our biggest trading partner after the neighbouring countries Germany and Belgium.

Interestingly even Wilders and his party (who are the biggest opposition party and the second biggest party in parliament) have been awfully quiet on the Nexit front.

The underlying sentiment of the discussions in general is the clichéd hope that the uncertainty will be resolved quickly with as little as damage as possible, no one really has answers or solutions though.

That may be the case in france which does not surprise me. In NL its on the news all the time and regularly on chat shows. Perhaps some countries think this will only affect the uk, a baptism of fire awaits.

Yeah on the continent besides probably NL very little air time is given to Brexit, feels like everyone moved on long time ago here.

It gets mentioned from time to time here in Australia but there is an air of "Look. A government even more incompetent than our own."

Yes, if the UK self immolates everyone else will get singed by the flames.

After brexit, bodies will be going in the brown recycling bin.

Maybe NL trades more than France with the Uk?

That would lead to another problem though, if your dead family member is fairly tall the bin lid won't close. Then they they will refuse to empty it.
