Yes, you need a passport to leave and enter Britain. After that, you can drive all across Europe with no checks whatsoever - we do it a lot.

The only real attention you get is at the Swiss border, Switzerland being one of the countries where you need to buy an annual vignette to drive on their motorways. Once they see you've got the sticker on your windscreen, that's it.

Funny, last time I got a train into Switzerland there was nothing at all. Was going from France. On the train to Italy though the police asked to see my passport and asked my destination but nothing more.

I wonder if Brits would prefer Trump in charge of Brexit negotiations rather than May...?

What does that tell you?

Exactly. If a caf cannot pay a decent salary it should not be open. But nevertheless, i do not believe there aren't any adequate burger flippers on the dole and i do not believe people should be paid 2.90 per hour to pick fruit, wherever they are from. We've created slave economies, if that's what everybody wants then fine. Just dint ever moan about your static salaries.

You get a minimum of A$17.70 plus 9.5% superannuation for flipping burgers or fruit picking here, unless your employer wants to risk prosecution. The jobs that often remain unfilled are often considered undesirable for reasons not strictly salary related e.g. carers in old people's homes, seasonal remote location fruit picking.

Many low paid jobs are taken by young people and students especially as you can't get unemployment until you are over 21 (I think). We also have skill shortages which are addressed by highly inefficient "skilled" worker visas which are universally hated by workers, employers and the general population.

You'd be telling the WTO to feck off. You'd have no international trade whatsoever and be international pariah's. Ireland isn't stupid enough to follow you into oblivion, we'd just facepalm and wait for you to come to your senses and start dealing with reality as opposed to your naive, childish little fantasy.
It's funny when people are confronted with the simple truth they disappear rather than acknowledge they didn't know what they were talking about

You don't need a passport to leave or enter Britain! You can use an EU approved ID card. It's just there is no EU approved I'd cards for Brits. (Thanks Cameron).

Trump has always been clear about his America first policies. He doesn't care if Brexit is in the UK's best interest, it is clear it's in the USA's as it weakens the EU which is Trump's focus-divide and rule. Can the UK do a deal with the USA? Yes, with a reduced leverage.

..

Both you are @matherto don't know what you are quoting.

The government reintroduced exit checks

You can get through these exit checks with rither a passport or an EU approved is card.

Listen. At my work, we have about 30% of the workforce that need to go into Europe every week. When one of these 30% are an non-british EU citizen, and their passport runs out, what do they do? Are they stuck? No they just use their ID card and carry on as before. But what do the Brits do, are they stuck without a passport? Yes! They have to go and waste a day sitting and getting a new passport.

You can travel anywhere across the whole of the EU without a passport. Instead you need a EU approved ID card. That is accepted by all EU governments including ours.

Problem is, there is no British EU approved ID card. David Cameron scrapped it. So most EU countries have a dual ID system for traveling around Europe (ID card and passport) whereas we only have the one system (passport)

Google it

Trump has been mimicking Farage and Boris J. Farage, an unelected loser in his own country is now advising Trump on the UK, EU relationship.

I cannot believe what is happening in this world.

I have always been a bit sanguine about politics.

But now I am truly alarmed.

Do we really need a new world order?

I mean, every agreed measure of human well-being has improved decade on decade.

Yeah the fringes are now in charge - one thing that has been interesting about it is that it does answer very clearly the question I used to have about Hitler and how could people have possibly followed this man to the point they put on a uniform and murdered people. Now I can see how it happened.

It takes a hardcore tory to ignore wages and the environment.

Relatively speaking we all have more money than we have ever done.

By all means battle out individual policies in a democratic manner. Nothing wrong with that.

Whoever makes the best case wins.

But human welfare has improved many-fold over time and it has never been better than it is now.

It isn't perfect, but the direction of travel is positive.

We do not need a new world order.

Yeah, we know you do, that's the problem, John.
Don't dig at me for getting on Silva. I was a million miles from being born with a silver spoon in my mouth.

What I am saying is not about socialist v capitalist it is about not turning things upside down just because we are mid-table in certain areas compared to other countries.

whatever snowflake

The air is quickly becoming unbreathable because of your generation. The very fact that you addressed wages instead of the environment shows your horrid colours, you and your peers are more interested in protecting your assets than leaving behind a liveable world.

Real wages have been stagnant or declining (depending on sector) for a decade, only now starting to pick up. Cuts in public services and welfare all over the place from education, to benefits, to healthcare. Property prices on the highest ever ratio of average price over average income, with property ownership dipping to its lowest levels in the post-war era and millennials largely locked out of it.

But yeah, we all have more money than ever says Honest John so we're all good. Honest.

This is a real worry for me. I can see the connections here and they do not bode well.

With all this protectionism there is a real possibility of a 30's style depression.

Back then there were individuals who made colossal amounts of money off the backs of poor and desperate people.

Trump looks like one of those to me.

Depressions cause people to look for scapegoats. Back then it was the Jews.

It would not be any different now.

What's the consensus on Trump's comments about this Brexit plan killing a UK trade deal?

whatever snowflake

Well I reckon they should concrete over the New Forest to make more parking spaces. What's wrong with that?

Is even one person happy with Brexit in its current form? It seems to me that our own government wishes they didn't have to do it the brexiteers hate it, remainers don't want it and foreign leaders don't either.

When May claims this meets the countries needs i really can't fathom who or what she's referring to?

We either crash out on WTO or we don't do it at all.

That's it.

Either way there's going to be a lot of angry people

He won't be in the White House to make that call by the time the Brexit fog clears in 2020.

I hope :nervous:

Oh he will be. Trump will negotiate a trade deal with the UK it just will be on his terms. He holds all the cards - as does the EU. The UK really has made a total mess of this and generations are going to suffer as a result.
