congrats to leverkusen for acquiring the services of josip drmic!
Brandt has been doing extremely well IMHO! Wouldn't have surprised me if Löw had nominated him for the match against Poland.I'm trying to work out how they'll lineup next season. Will he replace Kiessling as the CF? Or will he push Brandt out of the team and start on the right?
----------Drmic-----------
--Son---Castro---Brandt--
--------Kiessling----------
--Son---Castro---Drmic--
Probably both I suppose. But Brandt has done really well since his debut. 2 goals, 3 assists in 500 odd minutes.

Difficult to tell how Leverkusen will use Drmic, i.e. as their incoming coach Roger Schmidt may have very different ideas than Lewandowski/Hyppiä. Someone may correct me but Leverkusen had a rather slim squad this season and remained relatively injury-free as compared to Dortmund, Schalke, or Bayern. If Kießling had gotten seriously injured, Leverkusen had most likely struggled to replace him with Derdiyok.
Looking at your formation, I'm not sure if Castro will stay.
It'll be interesting to see where Calhanolglu ends up if he leaves HSV. I'm not fully convinced about him, and Drmic would need to prove that he's not a half of a season wonder. They had Sam out injured for a while. But Kiessling was injury free for the entire season and Derdiyok was their backup (who's rubbish). I wonder if Leverkusen could convince Hamburg to sell Calhanoglu if they get relegated. He could replace Castro in that formation and they could lineup like:
------------Drmic-------------
--Son---Calhanoglu---Brandt--
Kiessling had a disappointing season really. From 25 goals down to 15, so I wouldn't be surprised if Drmic takes his starting spot initially. I'd be trying to poach Geis from Mainz as well as he could replace Bender perfectly if he did leave. Assuming Bender and Castro left and they signed Geis and Calhanoglu, they could lineup like the below:
------------Drmic-------------
--Son---Calhanoglu---Brandt--
---------Geis--Can-----------
That would be an exciting young team!

Geis looks indeed very promising. But would Mainz be willing to sell him now? He could be also a possible successor for Gündogan in summer 2015, and the relations between Mainz and BVB are quite close as you surely know.Key question of course it what Geis prefers.
L. Bender made it pretty clear that he wants to stay. He basically said that he's disappointed with his season and doesn't feel ready to move to a bigger club. He also extended his contract recently, so Leverkusen is in a good position to keep him.
I really really hope Geis stays in Mainz for another season. If their best players leave, it'll be again a disappointing season for them in Europe. They should at least qualify for the group stages. They deserve that experience after years of brilliant work and I'm sure the fans would love it.
Ah so Benders staying? I thought he said that because he didn't want to join Arsenal!![]()
It's really weird how all of Arsenal's Bundesliga transfer targets state in public that they don't want to leave Germany at the moment. Draxler, Bender. Drmic signed for Leverkusen.
Veh is the new manager in Stuttgart, no idea who's frontrunner in Mainz at the moment.
That Drmic prefers Leverkusen over Arsenal or how Lothar Matthäus embarrassed himself re: a Drmic move or both? The Drmic one has made me laugh so hard.
A newbie shared his view one or two pages earlier. Kicker (print) writes that according to their sources, talks with Kasper Hjulmand from Nordsjaelland are quite advanced. Lieberknecht from just relagated Braunschweig is also mentioned (aside from being a good manager, he's originally from Rhineland-Palatine which Mainz is the capital of) but his boss, Marc Arnold, categorically ruled out letting him go.Are there any front runners on managers taking over at Mainz? I hope for their sake they can keep hold of their young lads, Karius, Geis, Bell and even that lad Saller all have very promising futures imo. But money talks in the world of football, just look at Southampton!

Yeah, this is already a classic Matthäus! And still BILD, Sky, Sport1 etc etc etc will continue disseminating whatever fart he's releasing ...Both. I loved the "wife" stories. Classic considering he doesn't have a Wife! I called bullshit on that story when it came out for that reason!![]()
Calhanoglu's advisor has confirmed that he wants to leave Hamburg with Leverkusen an option. Says a move abroad is out of the question.
Seems like Leverkusen mean business this time around. I'm intrigued!
Wolfsburg is apparently again trying to lure Lukaku to them (as last summer). I'd be surprised if they are successful but OTOH, with de Bruyne and Malanda, they have already two Belgian lads and they've been in intense talks with Lestienne (he's already been in Wolfsburg twice). Wolfsburg could become the German equivalent of Chelsea - on a much smaller scale and in the German middle of nowhere, of course.![]()
Then again, they'll have a task trying to keep hold of Rodriguez and Knoche this summer.
If one could only read José's mind!Wolfsburg are in for Lukaku again? Not sure whether he would want to leave Chelsea, he seems like he has set his mind on succeeding there, which is not a bad thing but I just get the feeling Mourinho doesn't trust him at all. If the Costa deal goes through I don't see him getting any opportunities there next season either. De Bruyne might try and tempt him to move, would love to have him in the Bundesliga to be honest.
Rodriguez was one of the rare gems in Magath's extensive shopping tours. Although Rodriguez didn't thrive under him IIRC: He's been superb only since Hecking is on board.rodriguez is a monstrous beast of a left back and was, imho, decidedly better than alaba during the season.
For both players, the club is in the driver seat. Knoche is no problem at all, I guess: He's extended his contract without a buy-out clause, is from the region, very down-to-earth, patient, highly respected by Allofs, Hecking, and fans.
Rodriguez is a different story. He instigates media chit chat that he wants to leave for a CL playing club but he has no buy-out clause, and Allofs said twice during one week they won't sell him this season, no matter if Real Madrid or Chelsea come along. I wouldn't trust his words though if he could get Morata or Lukaku in a swap deal.
The one with a buy-out clause and likely to leave after the WC is Gustavo.
All it takes is for a massive club to come calling and Knoche will be off. They'll probably keep hold of Knoche for at least one more season but then again, who knows? If Hummels does leave Dortmund then they might come calling. Bayern could probably do with a new CB as well.
I'm expecting this Summer to be utter chaos! It's going to be great fun!
I agree with Maze, but more importantly: This is not how it works anymore in the Bundesliga, in particular not among young German players. Knoche gave an interview in which he stressed that it is important for young players to be patient, and that is most important to get regular game time. All it takes is for a massive club to come calling and Knoche will be off. If you look at many young German talents (and even non-Germans), they prefer match experience over big names, even if it means a bit less money and a less prestigious club for 2-3 years time. Ginter, Brandt, Calhanoglu, Drmic are just examples, and cases like de Bruyne a "warning" to everyone.
Don't think I agree with your assessment at all.
[...] But if Dortmund/Bayern come calling, then I think it will be very hard for the player to turn that down. I think Knoche will probably stay, but I can certainly see Rodriguez going.

The ultimate question I suppose is whether Wolfsburg is a big club? I'm not convinced. If they can keep hold of Knoche and Rodriguez and add to their squad. Then they certainly have a chance of challenging for a top 4 spot next season.
What I do agree with you is that players in Bundesliga are going to be very cautious about joining foreign clubs. I don't disagree with them either, I hate the Premier Leagues stance on promoting young players. Frustrates me no end! The average age in the Premier League is much higher than the Bundesliga. Same scenario in Serie A and used to be in La Liga (but they're slowly improving).
But if Dortmund/Bayern come calling, then I think it will be very hard for the player to turn that down. I think Knoche will probably stay, but I can certainly see Rodriguez going.
VW is behind Wolfsburg. They make more profit every year then the whole Premier League. IF VW is serious and carefull(FFP) they could become BIG in the next years. Allofs and Hecking seem to sail the ship to new lands.
Im a Bayernfan and Im nervous about them! But in the end a strong Wolfsburg would be great for the Bundesliga.
Don't get me wrong, I hope for the sake of the Bundesliga that Wolfsburg, Schalke and Leverkusen raise their level. I'm jealous at the level of talent coming through in Bundesliga, it's mental.
As we're talking about players. Do you think anyone will pick up Niklas Stark from Nurnberg? He looked pretty handy for them.
Hey, no problem. Didnt take your comment bad. Just my view of their potenzial.
Didnt he have a huge injury this season? 19 or so also I think.
Imo he will go nowhere. Nürnberg is a fine club, even in league 2. But who knows. Gündogan was unknown when he went from there to Dortmund. The great thing is that our big and bigger clubs trust German talent.
What's going to happen to Kramer? Back to Leverkusen or sold to Gladbach?
As far as I know, he's on loan for two years, so I think he'll play in Gladbach next season. His contract in Leverkusen is until 2017. Haven't read anything about his situation in the last weeks, so don't think anything has changed.Anyone?
