Carrick, Blind, Jones, Rojo all out for the Chelsea game - What now?!

Fellaini-Herrera-ADM?
Fellaini-Herrera-Mata?
Fellaini-Rooney-Herrera?

Clearly will have to be Smalling and Evans at the back. Or is Evans injured too? :nervous:

This is shit. :(

Evans is suspended, so it will probably be McNair.

I think it will be:

-----------------------DDG-----------------------
Tony--------Smalls---------Paddy----------Shaw
-------------------Wazza-------------------------
-----------Anders---------------------------------
Juan---------------------Fellaini-----------Smashley
-----------------------RVP-------------------------

Evans is still suspended. Couldn't make this stuff up.

Evans is suspended for spitting. We are in the shit as I would not want McNair or Blackett against Chelsea.

This is awful. No DM and only a fit CB. So, I guess:

De Gea

Valencia Smalling McNair Shaw

Rooney Herrera Fellaini

Mata RVP Young

Very weak defensively.

I am far less confident now. I was confident when it was Rojo or Jones beside Smalling and Blind taking over for Carrick.

Probably something like this?
De Gea
Valencia - Smalling - Blackett - Shaw
Rooney
Ander - Fellaini
Mata - Falcao - Young

Fellaini-Herrera-ADM?
Fellaini-Herrera-Mata?
Fellaini-Rooney-Herrera?

Evans is suspended still.

I have a weird feeling Valencia might go into Midfield and Rafael going into Right Back...

There's no Costa to face, thankfully. Still, McNair will get pulverized by the Drog.

Evans is suspended, so it will probably be McNair.

 I knew there was something. Blackett or McNair it is, then!

Valencia to MF is a good shout actually, better option than a lot of the other possibilities imo.

Well that's ruined my friday, what the hell happened?.

I guess it's Quite possibly Young at LB with Januzaj LW if Shaw isn't fit.

I would personally use Herrera as the CDM with Fellaini and Di Maria in midfield, possibly even drop Rooney to midfield and use RVP/Falcao as the striker.

God it just shows how much we need Blind/Carrick in our formation for it to work.

Said in the match day thread but I'll repeat here:

No way we will play a flat back four without Jones/Smalling/Evans next to Smalling and Blind/Carrick sitting in front.

For the first time in years I was confident of a win at the Bridge. It's a complete write off now, best to play for an important point.

------------------------------------------------De Gea------------------------------------------------------
Valencia-----------------------------Smalling----------Mc Nair--------------------------------------Shaw
------------------------------------------------Fellaini-------------------------------------------------------
Di Maria-----------------------------Herrera-----------Mata-----------------------------------------Young
------------------------------------------------Rooney-------------------------------------------------------

Reckon we'll see Van Persie or Falcao upfront with Rooney in Fellaini's position if we maintain the current formation. Di Maria starts, Youngie at LB with maybe Shaw tried out at the LCB position with all three of Jones, Rojo and Evans out ? Or maybe even McNair with Young at left wing and Mata in central midfield. Unless we switch around to a 3-5-2 that is ?

Problem is that without either Carrick or Blind, the midfield loses a lot of its potency when we have the ball. Apart from Herrera there's almost no one who can really maintain possession in central areas of the pitch for sustained periods and even he's not as patient and composed as them two. Plus Carrick's really vital while defending because he drops in between the central defensive pairing. Not sure who'll deputize in that role now..

If we stick to the current formation then we could easily get battered. Definitely time for some pragmatism. And everything was going so well...

Though I suppose we did do fairly well against them at OT, even though we were playing shit back then...

Fellaini and di Maria upfront. :D

------------------------------------------------De Gea------------------------------------------------------
Valencia-----------------------------Smalling----------Mc Nair--------------------------------------Shaw
------------------------------------------------Fellaini-------------------------------------------------------

Not a big fan of the massive gaps between the wingers/fullbacks and the central players, but that seems pretty decent if we don't go 532.

tbh the only real issue there is the deep midfield position. Shaw is fine to replace Blind at LB. Blackett/McNair aren't as good but they are at least centre backs.

I guess the decision for LVG is whether to stick with the same system but with Fellaini/Herrera/Rooney or whoever in deep midfield, or change the system. I'd be minded to go for the latter, but we'll have to wait and see.

Perriera was away with Brazil last week so not sure if he is even back with us. What a cruel joke this is, more than anything for once Chelsea would have been looking at this game as a tough game and then you get this news on Friday which must do wonders for your confidence

Possibly this?

De Gea
McNair - Smalling - Blackett
Valencia - Herrera - Rooney - Young
Fellaini
Di Maria - Falcao

Only thing is there would be so many players starting a game for the first time in yonks in that side. Van Gaal seems big on the whole match rhythm stuff.

----------------De Gea
Rafael----Smalling--McNair--Shaw
-----Valencia--Herrera--Fellaini
Mata--------Rooney------Young

Keep it solid in the middle. Tell Valencia to play a hybrid midfielder/RB role. Big test for Herrera though.

What I don't understand is that why did LVG have to announce these in the press conference today, surely it makes sense to stay quiet and not let everyone know

Yeah I reckon it might be this too... though maybe Valencia in the DM role, be pretty funny if - even with all this injuries - ADM still doesn't make the team!

With no holding midfielder available and most of our senior centrebacks missing, I expect Van Gaal will probably revert to a 352, which might mean no place in the side for Mata.

I think Im going to cry, put Rooney back into midfield, try to bring in either RvP or Di Maria in his stead, it will have to be McNair at the back? we've literally nobody else for that spot.

Game changing that, means we'll have a few out of position :(. Was confident we'd get something aswell. It was all going too well to be honest, God needed to strike us down somehow.

Wouldn't surprise me, back at the Emirates we played 3-5-2 with McNair, Smalling, Blackett. We looked very poor though, and Arsenal had a shitload of chances that match, so 3 at the back might be a bit pointless.

Heh. I'm now fully expecting LVG to completely out-think himself for this game.

Well this has put a downer on things.

Fellaini can't hold, as good as he has been this season he is still a walking elbow, Chelsea will take every chance to throw themselves to the ground against him to get him sent off. Pereira also isn't a holding midfielder really so I wouldn't expect him to start the game, which leaves Herrara to do the holding duties with Fellaini and Mata ahead of him and Rooney as the main striker.

Of course the other option is RVP or Wilson to start and Rooney to drop into the holding role. If either RVP or Wilson were in decent form this would be the option that I would prefer to be honest.

Third and least likely would be to play both Rooney and Herrera as defensive midfielders and have Fellani, Mata and ADM as the forward 3 with Rvp as the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1. This would offer a little more protection to our potentially weak back four.

Ffs I've been confident all week, a draw would be a great result now.

No, Thankfully Evans is suspended.

Why is everyone getting scared? Injuries are part of football, so, we have to deal with it. We still have enough attacking talent to paper over the injuries.

DDG, Valencia, Smalling, McNair, Shaw, Herrera, Fellaini, Rooney, Mata, Young, Falcao.
