Let Rooney be Rooney
Great midfielder, or the greatest midfielder?

In all seriousness he was quite easily the best midfielder on the pitch, passing exquisite, work rate second to non. The late pass to Rooney was so good it was silly, 70 yards with zip and spin, he made it look routine.

Was very good, better defensively than going forward, though it was marginal.

You and your love for Carrick.

He was very good, as always this season.

Fletcher was as good today.

Agreed though, fecking great player

I adore Carrick too (not in a sexual way though).

His passing is superb and he really controls the game from midfield, just like Scholes has been doing for so many years. I'd just like to see him be a bit more aggressive when attacking but I don't think that's in his game.

Thought he was even better actually.

Giving Scholes some real competition for his place.

When I was in the newbs, one of the threads I remember from this forum was the good ole Mammoth Hargreaves thread and the ever recurring theme of Carrick's display in the San Siro against Milan. Has Carrick banished the ghosts of the San Siro now with tonight's performance?

Most confident performance I've seen from him in europe, and he has every reason to play confidently in every match.

Best midfielder playing for the world champions.

After a performance like that I'd expect everyone to love him.

Doubt that'll have changed anyone's mind about him.

Anyone who's watched him for us regularly knows he's brilliant, anyone who hasn't watched him regularly, i.e rival fans, probably didn't even notice he was playing.

Such is life.

His calmness in defence os out of the world. He is aware of every player on the pitch which gives him that edge to read the game so well.

I remember those. I remember the caftards that would claim Hargreaves was SO MUCH better as a footballer than Carrick.

It'd be nice to see the chalkboard for this game though I'm not sure we'll get one for champions league football

Made Muntari look like a Championship midfielder.

Carrick and Fletcher pissed all over their midfield ...

He is a Championship midfielder.

He was never good enough for Inter.

a few risky back passes nearly gave me a heart attack, and the one time he tried some fancy trick to get past 3 inter players was hilarious.

Hehe I remember that. You'l have to ask the Chief.

I think it's fair to say that he performed well on the big stage, tonight. What an unbelievable signing...

He played very well. As usual, Mozza, you overhype him massively.

He wasn't the best midfielder on the pitch though. Cambiasso was amazing.

Absolutely superb player Carrick is.
Incredibly under-rated, just oozes class

Yes, honestly he was everywhere for them. Muntari and Stankovic were useless but Cambiasso didn't misplace a pass, made some very good ones, some great tackles - after spotting it I kept my eye on him and I swear he didn't put a foot wrong all game. Class performance.

Carrick was also very good, mind you, and played a couple of beautiful passes. One of the things I like about Carrick is how at ease he is with his left. He never has a problem if the ball is on his weaker foot.

His style really seems to suit European football, he is hardworking AND can pick a pass, not something all players have. At times his passing ability is breathtaking, and he looks like the type of player that is he looks after himself he could carry on for years and years simply because of his natural ability.

Cambiasso was their only decent player but not as good as Carrick, his team was on the back foot so he got a chance to look good in defending, Carrick was better, covered the most distance on the pitch and passing was well above the level of Cambiasso

Nah, you need to put your Carrick boner away.

Cambiasso didn't misplace a pass, and was Inter's best attacking AND defensive player.

You can always trust him to keep possession. I was crying out, give the fecking ball to Carrick when we're getting dominated. He gives me that assurance that Scholes normally does. That said, Fletcher was better than carrick today.
