Carrick's Last Game?

feck. This would be annoying if it was, one of the best players we've had for the last decade and I'd like to say goodbye to him properly.

Same as when Vidic left he got a big reception, but then Evra and Rio didn't.

Can't see us not renewing with him.. He played every game and no one in the squad can touch him.. But if he leaves he surely deserves a huge send off. Our best midfielder for the last decade.

It is the right decision, but yeah it would be a bit of a shit send off. Nothing tops how poorly Rio's final game/season was handled though, that was an absolute debacle.

I read the title first as Carrick's last Name and was like :wenger:

Last game at Old Trafford since i think he's going to start in the FA Cup final next Saturday.

Certainly one of Ferguson's best buys, Carrick was an important member of the incredible 2007-09 United side that won three PL titles on the trot and made it to two consecutive CL finals (and reached the semis the season before) and he became absolutely vital in the post Ronaldo era.

Great servant of the club, i believe he still has a good season left in him and that with some clever rotation he and Bastian can share the holding role next season. But as things stand, if he leaves, we'll be left searching for two quality in the midfield since Scholes hasn't been properly replaced either.

Hopefully. It's the (outward) uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation that makes this such a shitty situation, though. Similar to when Moyes left and Rio was booted.

Ideally, Carrick would get a nice send off and say goodbye to the support. If he were to stay here - and surely we'd have activated his renewal by now if this was the case - then it isn't as much of issue.

But like I said, when we want players to extend these rolling one-year contracts we usually would have activated it by now.

Hopefully he is here next season as his calming influence and quality is vital.

He'll most likely start at Wembley with Fellaini.

Who else will we send out after a bad defeat looking like Eeyore in the rain?

I hope not, I believe he can give us solid 20 games next season under good manager who knows how to use him.

Top class player over the years but his time is up I'm afraid. He'll get a great send off at Wembley next week I'm sure.

Not looking like a renewal is in sight with a month left on his current deal.

If so, he's been a fantastic servant for 10 years.
It has to be because of the possible managerial changeover. Why would Van Gaal get to decide whether or not to let him go when it should be Jose's decision?

Great player he's been for us no doubt, but I don't think I'd offer him another year.
It depends if we replace him adequately. So far that'll leave us with bastian, schneiderlin, fellaini, Herrera, Rooney. Hardly the best bunch around.

Maybe it's Carrick waiting to see if LvG gets potted before he agrees to anything.

Still our best CM so can be the only reason for him not having signed up, would be a stupid decision not to offer him an extension.

Great player and servant for us. Would be a fitting goodbye if we won him that FA cup medal.

These deep lying playmakers are so difficult to replace in the market. Nigh impossible.

I'm undecided on whether or not I want us to offer him an extension.

Don't see any reason not to give him another year, unless he has demands of playing all the time - which definitely isn't the case because he's never been that guy.

But if it has to come to an end this season, he better be starting the next two games and winning that FA Cup.

It would be typical of this joke regime. Carrick is still our best CM (and that speaks volumes about our CM this season) and won't get a new contract.

Ideally we wouldn't need to but since we can afford it and he's still our best CM on this season's performances and his vast experience, I can't see the harm in it? Even if it's just a 20-30 minute cameo at the end of games. At least he's usually available for selection!

Absolutely terrible if Carrick isn't renewed. The state of our midfield is ridiculous, despite spending so much in that area.

Hes been quite poor this season tbh

He's been in and out, and needs the right partner with him. His passing and composure far outweighs the physical frailties. His presence vs West Ham was a prime example of that, we looked far more secure with the ball in the centre of the park when he replaced Schneiderlin.

I don't mind him staying but I don't think he should be a starter, we need to sign a new CM as one of our priorities and we need to make room for Pereira as well.

For some reason people are obsessed with getting rid of the players without them even being replaced. Repeating the last years scenario. We have only Schneiderlin in our team who can play his position(and Blind if you trust him) and he didn't even show he is better than 34 years old Carrick but some would happily get rid of Carrick. Absolutely ridiculous, what exactly are we getting by getting rid of Carrick?

Agreed, if Schneiderlin/Herrera actually play to our expectation then Carrick should just come off the bench to control the game.

It isnt .Hes gone on record many times that he wants another deal, but that the club simply haven't offered him one.

He's gone imo. And it's the right decision

But then we have Basti who can do that

Delighted. It should be the end for him.

Past it but madness to let him go with the way the squad is at the moment.

He deserves a better sending off too.

But then we have Basti who can do that

Basti is different. For all his bullishness in the middle, he's not as composed as Carrick. With both being injury prone we might need to keep both anyway. Its not like we have an inflated wage bill - I'm sure Carrick isn't a drain on our resources.

Our fans are far too sentimental. We can't keep both him and Bastian.BFS is younger, and is the newer signing. He's done well when played, and when both were fit,Bastian was always preferred. We should definitely go into the market now for that kind of midfielder.

One of them tends to be injured anyway though. Basti has barely played half a season worth of games with us.

I would keep him to play against the lower teams and the league cup, where he can be a calming influence on the younger players. He can't be on megabucks and he won't kick up a fuss if he's not a starter.
