Carrick's Last Game?

What a shit sending off for one of our most important players in the last 10 years.

Thank you for everything Michael and good luck in the future.

If it was, it's a shame the ball never rattled off the bar and into the goal.

Good luck to him.

Over protective parent just wanted to keep them away from the loos.

Why what was he doing on the bus?
The thing is what he was not doing? He should have got up and knocked Lingard's teeth, before smashing his phone and dragged Januzaj and all those lying on the floor and stuck their faces on to the glass windows on which mob were throwing missiles.
Then he should have torn his shirt and kicked the door of the coach open and shouted "COME AND GET ME IF YOU DARE!!!!"

But alas, there he was trying to escape the mob by sitting on the floor. He was the main reason for our loss to West Ham.

:D:D:D

I hope he gets another year. There's easily 10-15 games per season in him at the top level. He's just pure class. I can see Arsenal having a go for him if we fail to offer him terms. With Rosicky, Arteta leaving, they will no doubt look for someone like Carrick.

No there isn't. He's rather painfully remonstrated that over the last 2 seasons.

We should bring Cantona back while at it

Seeing as he's still been our best midfielder comfortably, I don't see a problem. If you put him alongside some mobile midfielders, he will be ace. Even Rooney yesterday, tracked back well and helped out defensively. Imagine what a proper box to box engine could do alongside him.

Please update the calendar. We're in 2016

Giggs till 40, Scholes till 37, Bastian, Carrick, Ibra....we're becoming a retirement house

It's more than updated. I did say 10-15 games a season. Not much of a stretch really is it ?

Probably time to move on and buy a quality replacement.

Such an elegant and classy player, he won't get the recognition he deserves once he finally calls time on his career.

It's time he moves on, but he still has a lot to offer to another good team. I can see him still excelling at a West Ham level club.

Id say we should start employing top quality players at the peak of their career instead of washed up part timers

Such a shame that shot didn't go in. Deflected, I know, but it would have been nice for him to score if this was his last game.

Fair enough. I am more in favour of bringing in a player with great potential, whom Carrick can mentor.

Why not just get a midfielder who can play 40 games a season? Like we did when we signed Carrick.

We've got to stop accommodating players. Been going on for about five years now. It's no coincidence during that time the football has got worse and worse.

We still look a better side with Carrick in it. If it was his last game its a shame that shot smacked back off the bar, would have been a nice way to bow out !

I never suggested not buying a player now did I ? I'm all for it provided, we get the right kind of player. Seeing as we are mostly linked with midfielders and Ibra, I think that's the direction the club is heading in as well.

Keeping Carrick does suggest no new aquisitions as it would reduce the chances of us signing a new midfielder. We've already got 4/5 centre midfielders on the books. Somebody will need to go before we sign a new one. Given his age and injury record over the last few years it makes sense for it to be Carrick.

The same could be said about Schweinsteiger.

He's been dropping standards for the past couple of seasons. If we keep players like him who can't keep up with fast midfielders then we are going backwards.

Personally, I would prefer if it were Schweiny. I wouldn't mind if it were Fellaini either, but I doubt either of those are gonna happen. But if Mourinho does come in, it will be as I fear and that Carrick will leave the club. But I still think it would be the wrong decision. De Bruyne, Lampard are just a few examples of how Mourinho could get it wrong.

Four years younger and only just got here. Bit different.
Four years younger doesn't mean anything if he can't keep fit, it's not as if his problems started this season.

Carrick has been a fantastic servant to this club and can still do his job, if one of the two has to leave then I know which one I would choose.

Neither of them can stay fit it seems. So I think it's obvious you go for the guy whose four years younger.

Didn't he grow up supporting Newcastle? Could be a nice move for him, help them get back in the Prem next season.

Personally hoping he renews for a year with Jose :)

This.

He was a great servant. But we need to able to move players on.

We need to start having some ambition, to have the best,to be the best again.

Hopefully we give him a testimonial. If it was his last game today, then its a good send off.

I bet he couldnt have dreamed of the career he had. He beat the game. Got everything out of the sport you'd want to. Great player. Sad to see him leave. Even sadder if we dont give him a testimonial.

9 seasons for us, including being the only constant first choice central midfielder (of Scholes, Fletcher in his peak years, good debut-season signings like Hargreaves and Anderson) throughout our most successful period ever in the history of our club, on & off the pitch (2006-2011).

Definitely deserves a testimonial. I still think he reached points where he was the best English player in the game after Ferdinand & Scholes, at points. He was always very good in Europe (bar 09/10) until his legs went, and he was also very reliable in the big games. It is a shame he did not shoot more - Rolls Royce midfielder.

Not looking like a renewal is in sight with a month left on his current deal.

If so, he's been a fantastic servant for 10 years.

Yep and our european games improved because of him too. The meltdown when he was signed was hilarious though because knowledgeable fans and press believe we needed a Gattuso instead of a Pirlo. Goes to show how much the non football people know about football.
