Carrick's Last Game?

If it was his last game, I guess there's no better way, then to win his first F.A. Cup.
Indeed, I think that might have been his last game for us and it's a great high to go out on. He's been a fantastic player for us, and some of his abilities are still brilliant, but he is so noticeably slow now that I don't think we can carry him any more. Still, a proper United player and he has the trophies to prove it

Yep and our european games improved because of him too. The meltdown when he was signed was hilarious though because knowledgeable fans and press believe we needed a Gattuso instead of a Pirlo. Goes to show how much the non football people know about football.

I was really happy with it at the time. Didn't realise no one else was.

I think he will leave on a high and retire. If we hadn't won the FA Cup i think he may have stayed another year as a Giggs to influence the dressing room more than play many games.

They weren't happy because they wanted a hard tackler. It was the period most fans and media were finding difficult to let Roy Keane go. They were 100% sure we needed a new Roy to maintain success, forgetting that Roy's game was not about the tackling but the passes he could make.

I think he might be my favourite ever United player. I just love the way he plays and the understated way he goes about his business. He's the sort of player who does things with such grace and ease that it often gets unnoticed but when you realise how easy he made something look it's a real joy. He pops up in the right position time and time again and handles the situation with ice cold calm. He'll nip in and shrug off a centre forward, feint a pass to the goalkeeper, turn into an acre of space and zip a pass forward 40 yards. You put a lesser player in that scenario and it's often a foul or at best a throw in or sloppy punt forward under pressure.

He struts around slowly and took ages to pass but his experience and cool head gave us the needed boost when we went down to 10 men. Would love to see him scores the header during extra time. If this is the last game for the club, I would like to thank him for the years of service he gave us.

My favorite United player of all time - really hope Mourinho gives him a contract extension. We could do with his experience next year, even if he's not going to play every day.

I want us to sign a younger holding midfielder similar to him and use him as a back-up next season. He is still better than the other three options we have for the position - Blind and the Schs.

Wish that header at the end went in:( Would have been fitting.

The truth though is that he isn't good enough for us anymore. Didn't have a particularly convincing performance this season.

I hope he gets an extra year. Just listening to Scholes and Rio on why he's so great for the team tells you all you need to know. One of my most favourite players in the last decade or so.

Superb player in his day, great servant to the club but he's half the player he was. Time to move on.

From memory, most people were happy with him signing. It's just that they felt we needed a 'Gattuso' as well.

It'll be difficult to replace Carrick if he leaves, I still regard him as our best passer of the ball and obviously he's one of the few experienced players we've got in the squad.

He has declined a bit in the last year or two but generally, he has been outstanding for us for the best part of a decade. I hope the club gives him the send-off he deserves when the time comes.

I think he will stay. It'd be odd to play him as part of the starting 11 in the cup final, then just release him.

I think Mourinho will keep him and use him sparingly, he likes his English stalwarts. Managed correctly Carrick can be a good asset next season.

I'd rather keep him and kick Schweinsteiger out, but if it was his last game for the club, atleast he ended with a trophy in his hands.

Whatever happens, Carrick has been a wonderful servant for the club.

Agreed. Highly under rated throughout by most.

Very nice touch by Rooney to jointly raise the cup with him, like bruce and robson in 93 (i believe).

Good riddance is a bit harsh. His performances have declined this year but don't talk about him like he's a wage thief.

Carrick has been great for the club.

Agreed. There's much bigger problems with our personnel than Carrick.

Currently our best CM in my view.

Another player that would be a great coach. Need to keep him in some capacity in the club.

9 seasons for us, including being the only constant first choice central midfielder (of Scholes, Fletcher in his peak years, good debut-season signings like Hargreaves and Anderson) throughout our most successful period ever in the history of our club, on & off the pitch (2006-2011).

Definitely deserves a testimonial. I still think he reached points where he was the best English player in the game after Ferdinand & Scholes, at points. He was always very good in Europe (bar 09/10) until his legs went, and he was also very reliable in the big games. It is a shame he did not shoot more - Rolls Royce midfielder.

Isn't it 10, he joined in 2006?

Fantastic player, carried that midfield by himself most of the time and we won so many trophies with him in midfield. Will never forget him, he was a joy to watch. If he does leave that is.

Really think there should be a place for him in the squad

Use him very sporadically like in the finals years for Giggs

I think Carricks a good player. High moments and low moments. Pity he didn't score with that header yesterday. Would have been a good send off (unless he pulls a Terry)

Personally I wouldn't say it was his last game. I'd expect us to give him a further year, though in a much more reduced role in the squad.

During Tyler's commentary yesterday he said there's a belief that a change in management will result in him being given another contract

There literally is no reason not to give him another contract

I expect it is Carrick delaying the decision rather than the club, given the questions over the managerial situation.

We'd be mental not to over him anothe year, and from what LVG has said in the past, he was a big fan of Carrick.

It's interesting because we're in a similar situation now where everyone's hunting for the next Carrick.
