Celtic vs Manchester United

Heading from the Emerald Isle with my Bro. & his son ( both Celtic fans!).......will probably have to keep my mouth shut at the game, which would be wise, BUT ...... after a gallon or so of fuel, may be difficult! :D....... This is my 1st Utd away game, really looking forward to it. Have been in Parkhead before & the "craic " is mighty!

vds

brown ferdinand vidic evra

ronaldo anderson carrick nani

berbatov tevez

Tevez needs to make himself more of a threat further up the pitch.
The atmosphere will calm down when after 5 mins celtic still havent touched the ball.

I agree, although to be fair it's been difficult when he's not been playing.......

--------------Foster
Brown - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Nani - Fletcher - Giggs - Park
------Tevez - Rooney

A strong enough side, yet with some key players getting a rest for Arsenal.

Celtic have a good home record in Europe but they haven´t looked all that impressive in the games I´ve seen them in this season. Saying that, they need to win this game so they´ll be fired up. I fancy us to win but it´ll be tight. 2 - 0, Fletcher and Tevez.

-------VDS--------
Neville (we need a constant at RB)-Rio-Vidic-Evra
Ronaldo (gotta keep his ego high)-Fletcher-Anderson-Park (it'll be a rough game and Nani will just dive and give the ball away)
Tevez-Rooney (Berbatov needs to be benched every once in awhile too)

Hopefully United win this won and take the pressure off themselves in the group stages the rest of the way, so they can focus on the league's upcoming fixtures

VDS

Brown*/Rafael
Rio
Vida
Evra

Ronaldo
Carrick
Fletcher
Park

Rooney
Berbatov

Subs: PIG, Oshea, Anderson, Nani, Giggs, Tevez, Rafael/Neville.

*Assuming he's fit, haven't heard anything bout that...

In know loads of United in the Celtic end for this one.

Tell me, what's the score with the Celtic away end? Is it one tier or two and, more importantly, is there going to be anywhere for me to be able to hang my flag! :D

Jacob's prediction

Line-up:

----------------------------VDS----------------------
Rafael----------Ferdinand--------Vidic-----------Evra
Park------------Carrick--------Fletcher-------Ronaldo
----------------Rooney----------Tevez---------------

Score: Celtic 1 - 3 Manchester United

Goals: Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo

Player to watch: Carrick

It could well be a tough, physical match and for that reason, I'd have this team:

---------------VDS----------------
Nev--------Rio------Vida-------Evra
Ronnie----Carrick---Fletch------Nani
----------Rooney---Tevez----------

Subs: PIG, Evans, O'Shea, Park, Anderson, Giggs, Berbatov.

I know Berba was fantastic against Hull for us, but against the likes of Celtic at their own ground, and the fact that they could approach this game very physical so I think Rooney & Tevez up front together would be perfect for this battle. If things need freshened up, then we introduce the man Berbatov

celtic need a result and i think they need to play for a win, which would open the game up for us. ronaldo i did think he needs a rest but after the arsenal game we have QPR, where he will be rested so maybe fergie will start with him. Brown will play if he is fit.

any chance of manucho being involved .. maybe at home against aalborg ..
hope he is involved

The travelling squad
Kuszczak, Foster
Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, O'Shea, Evans, Rafael, Chester
Ronaldo, Anderson, Carrick, Giggs, Nani, Park, Fletcher, Possebon, Gibson
Rooney, Berbatov, Tevez

Out: VDS, Scholes, Hargreaves, Brown, Manucho

According to SSN, Foster is going to play and theres no Neville or Brown, so Rafael plays

Big big test for Rafael away at Celtic Park, if Neville also misses out. Nah, O'Shea will probably start at RB.

Fergie said Foster would play last week, just after the West Ham game. Very surprised Rafael is playing. I would have thought Jonny Evans would get a game.

If we're going to rest anyone in defence it should be Rio and Evra. We really need them against Arsenal.

ah . possebon in the squad :D

chester there is a surprise

if brown will be injured for the weekend then dont think fergie will play neville in both the games ..
-----------foster----------------
rafael---vidic ---evans----O'shea
ronaldo---fletch -- carrick--park-
---------tevez-----------------
----------berba----------------

hmm .. its hard to pick the lineup with arsenal a few days away . wonder what fergie will do

Right, slight change in my line-up prediction then since Brown and van der Sar supposedly aren't travelling.

-------------- Foster --------------
Neville --- Ferdinand - Vidic --- Evra
------- Fletcher ----- Giggs --------
Ronaldo ---------------------- Park
-------- Tévez ---- Berbatov ------

Subs: Kuszczak, Rafael, O'Shea, Carrick, Anderson, Nani & Rooney

Rooney and Ronaldo always perform well against Arsenal, so they might be rested for that game.

If we worry too much about the Arsenal match and lose our focus we'll end up getting stung you know. Be like a couple of seasons ago when we started well and then invited Celic back into contention.

Let's be professional about this.

The travelling squad: Kuszczak, Foster; Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, O'Shea, Rafael, Evans; Possebon, Anderson, Fletcher, Nani, Ronaldo, Gibson, Giggs, Carrick, Park; Tevez, Berbatov, Rooney.

no neville or chester

Neville's out. I fancy Carrick and Fletch to start this in the middle, possibly even Evans for Rio

O'Shea can slot in if there's any hassle

where is the cover for Evra then? :annoyed:

From BBC, Celtic still missing Georgios Samaras, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Chris Killen.

Celtic from: Boruc, Hinkel, Naylor, Caldwell, McManus, Wilson, Maloney, McGeady, Scott Brown, Hartley, Robson, Donati, McDonald, McCourt, Sheridan, Mark Brown, Nakamura, O'Dea, Caddis.

Man Utd from: Kuszczak, Foster, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, O'Shea, Rafael, Evans, Possebon, Anderson, Fletcher, Nani, Ronaldo, Gibson, Giggs, Carrick, Park, Tevez, Berbatov, Rooney.

doubt we'll replace both LB and RB during the game .. if we have to then fletch can play RB and evans can play LB

park has played at RB before ..

wonder if gibson / posse will be involved at all

We could at a pinch put Fletch at right back too, did that a few times last season.

All this aside, i think it will be more a question of how well the front six perform as to the result we get. If Celtic disrupt us or we simply can't covert a hsot of chances, well we all know how the pressure can build in such situations.

Yeah - I reckon this could be a wee bit closer than the game at OT. They're really going to go for it full pelt. Interesting to see how Da Silva and Foster react to such pressure.

Still think we've too much going forward for them to cope with. But as you say, it depends on how we use our chances. We wasted about a dozen against Hull !

PIG; O'Shea, Evans; Nani, Anderson, Giggs; Berbatov

Gone for a slightly more defensive side.

Expect us to get a couple of goals, my prediction is 2-0

Rooney and Ronaldo the scorers :)

Brown and Neville missing. Not good. Rafael probably cant believe his luck at the moment. The amount of games he is getting is encouraging. I hope his twin brother Fabio returns soon to make his claim for the LB role as well. Healthy competition is good. Either way we have John O'Shea to cover both positions if needed.

Foster should hopefully take this opportunity to impress in goal.

Two tiers on three sides including the away end you can hang your flag over the second tier hoarding but you'll be asked to politely move it at KO time ;)

We'll really get to see what Rafael is made of now. Dont remember him being given a start away from home so far.

Aalborg but they were the worst team we've played in a long while.
